Town Set to Sign Adeyemi Today
Friday, 30th Jun 2017 10:31

TWTD understands that Town are set to complete the signing of free agent midfielder Tom Adeyemi later today. The 25-year-old, who is believed to have agreed a three-year deal, is out of contract having been released by Cardiff City at the end of the season and was also understood to be interesting the Blues' East Anglian rivals Norwich City, his hometown club where he started his career.

Adeyemi, who spent last season on loan with Rotherham, was first mentioned in connection with the Blues and Canaries in May, while the Millers were keen to keep him for their League One campaign.

On Monday, Rotherham boss Paul Warne said he understood that Adeyemi would end up joining either Town or Norwich.

Asked whether he had any interest in Adeyemi the same day, Blues boss Mick McCarthy kept his cards typically close to his chest.

“I’ve been linked with loads of people but if I answer a question on everybody I’ve been linked with [I’ll be here for a while], and I can’t help what people put in papers,” he said.

Born in Milton Keynes but brought up in Norwich, Adeyemi came through the youth ranks at Carrow Road and spent time on loan at Bradford, Oldham and Brentford before moving on to Birmingham on a permanent basis in 2013 having been released by the Canaries.

After a year at St Andrew’s the 6ft 1in tall midfielder joined Cardiff for a fee in excess of £1 million. Having failed to establish himself as a regular with the Bluebirds in 2014/15, he moved on to Leeds on a season-long loan the following season.

Adeyemi, who qualifies to play international football for Nigeria, joined Rotherham in August last year on a similar basis and went on to score seven goals in 29 starts and one sub appearance for the Millers.

We understand the deal will be completed today with Adeyemi officially joining the Blues tomorrow with his Cardiff contract up today.

The Blues are expected to complete the season-long loan signing of Manchester City youngster Bersant Celina from Manchester City over the weekend in time for the 20-year-old Kosovo international to join the squad when they travel to Ireland for their training camp on Monday.

Don't know much about him, but good luck to the lad. Keep the signings coming. I do just hope this isn't papering over some cracks and we soon see Bart is leaving or something like that!!

Great news. Especially if he's turned down the budgies to sign for us!

Even if it's not necessarily true, can we all pretend he chose us over the 6-fingered ones?

Welcome to the Pride Of Anglia Tom.

6 goals in 29 appearances for Rotherham so that could equate to double figures for a full season. Any midfielder who could reach double figures is welcome here.
I'm still worried about Bart though as he prevented far more goals last season than any of our strikers scored so in my book he's worth the same as a top striker. I won't be happy till the window closes and Bart is still here.

This is a great move for us! The team is really coming together this pre season, much more so then any recent year! Even if Bart leaves, and prem teams will be looking at him if we get good money and a good replacement it isn't all bad! This is more positive then most years for sure

Sounds promising, this is from his wiki page:

Adeyemi was described by Birmingham manager Lee Clark as a "powerful and talented midfielder".[24] Rösler assessed him as composed.[36] Solskjær expected him to be "a top, top player" for Cardiff, as "a box to box midfielder [who] can attack and defend. He wins the ball really well for us, switches the play and scores goals as well"

Hmm... a goal scoring midfielder potentially added to the list... who turned down the scum in favour of us? As much as I believe MM's time was up about 18/24 months ago I'm slowly thinking about buying a ticket for the optimism train for the upcoming season. Maybe it won't be another relegation battle after all?!

I am fighting that football supporters urge though, we all know that train is more than likely headed to Disappointment in April. Oh the joys of supporting Town!

Judging from the celebration of his goal for Rotherham against Norwich last season, his heart isn't at Carrow Road...

Happy with this.
I would though, like Mick to be challenged on what his plans for Bishop and Dozzell are in light of the Huws/Adeyemi additions.
Are we writing Bish off as a lost talent. Are they going out on loan?

Sounds highly promising. Could be a much better campaign this time round.

He certainly gave us problems at Rotherham last season. Very pacey , direct player. I'm liking these signings.

I think this is a great signing & I think I've read that he can also play up front. Will be interesting to see if he will go back in for John Mcginn who is a very talented midfielder.

His career seemed to stall at Cardiff after umpteen managerial changes so he should be looking to get back on track here. Just hope the neanderthals don't start making a big deal of his Budgie past if he has a sticky start.

Midfielders from Milton Keynes with a Nigerian heritage have done pretty well in the last few years! As have Cardiff midfielders not rated by the current management, come to think of it:) Very promising signing, and welcome aboard!

Very happy with this one. I saw him at Rotherham playing us (we were poor that day it has to be said) and thought he is the kind of player we need. He adds height and is the right age.

Hopefully he has the hunger to really push on.

Good luck to him!

the fact the he's made a lot of appearances wherever he's been, that Rosler re-signed him and that he's been a vice captain are hopefully enough to dispel doubts around why he hasn't settled anywhere.

I don't blame him for rejecting Norwich when they got rid of him at 21 years old.

I really hope it comes back to bite them in the bum and he does really well for us and scores against them in the derby!

This is great news pure and simple. Teddy is injury prone and this gives more support in the midfield for the likes of dozzell and nydam to drop in at times and develop. Still feel we need more-more quality to be honest. More wingers and an out and out goal scorer. I don't think many more because realistically we aren't a derby or Middlesbrough who don't care about breaching FFP rules and whose owners are happy to chuck money about. But it's fair for us to expect a bit more especially if pitman and bru leave

Good signing this. Think he will play right midfield for us as he has done in the past. Powerful pacy and direct. Or equally he could play in the midfield 3 with skuse and huws and Ward play out wide

This guy is a power house, if he can get to peak fitness he is that drive in CM we've been missing. Strong, decent pace, good engine and can pass the ball well. A couple more to add depth but things are coming along nicely, even as it stands I'd happily start...

Bart
Spence Webster Chambers Kenlock
Skuse
Adeyemi Huws
Ward
McGoldrick Garner

Gerken, Smith, Knudsen, Bishop, Celina, Sears, Rowe

Pleased with this one too. Finally the transfer money seems to be trickling through.
I will still be nervous about losing a certain keeper though until the window closes.

Keep the Faith..
