Town Set to Sign Adeyemi Today
Friday, 30th Jun 2017 10:31

TWTD understands that Town are set to complete the signing of free agent midfielder Tom Adeyemi later today. The 25-year-old, who is believed to have agreed a three-year deal, is out of contract having been released by Cardiff City at the end of the season and was also understood to be interesting the Blues' East Anglian rivals Norwich City, his hometown club where he started his career.

Adeyemi, who spent last season on loan with Rotherham, was first mentioned in connection with the Blues and Canaries in May, while the Millers were keen to keep him for their League One campaign.

On Monday, Rotherham boss Paul Warne said he understood that Adeyemi would end up joining either Town or Norwich.

Asked whether he had any interest in Adeyemi the same day, Blues boss Mick McCarthy kept his cards typically close to his chest.

“I’ve been linked with loads of people but if I answer a question on everybody I’ve been linked with [I’ll be here for a while], and I can’t help what people put in papers,” he said.

Born in Milton Keynes but brought up in Norwich, Adeyemi came through the youth ranks at Carrow Road and spent time on loan at Bradford, Oldham and Brentford before moving on to Birmingham on a permanent basis in 2013 having been released by the Canaries.

After a year at St Andrew’s the 6ft 1in tall midfielder joined Cardiff for a fee in excess of £1 million. Having failed to establish himself as a regular with the Bluebirds in 2014/15, he moved on to Leeds on a season-long loan the following season.

Adeyemi, who qualifies to play international football for Nigeria, joined Rotherham in August last year on a similar basis and went on to score seven goals in 29 starts and one sub appearance for the Millers.

We understand the deal will be completed today with Adeyemi officially joining the Blues tomorrow with his Cardiff contract up today.

The Blues are expected to complete the season-long loan signing of Manchester City youngster Bersant Celina from Manchester City over the weekend in time for the 20-year-old Kosovo international to join the squad when they travel to Ireland for their training camp on Monday.

Rugbytomc. I'm sure that if pitman leaves that we will look to sign another striker. However, why do u say we need more wingers? We now have Rowe, Ward and Celino. Can only pjay a maximum of 2 at any 1 time so think we're well covered in that area.

Hello all, I've not posted before but would like to offer a long term perspective.

I grew up with Wark, Zondervan and later enjoyed Wembley and Europe. we are potentially a premier league club. I base that on the dan numbers when we were in the top flight and the fact that plans were made years ago to make PM 40000. We can be stoke, west brom and watford.

It only takes one promotion to start building the funds and if we yoyo a few times that's ok.

I have hated the football under Mick but I have a few comments to dilute anger and offer what I believe is genuine optimism.

Mick does not like to lose nor does Evans. I sense that last year they rolled ten dice to see if they could scrape into the play offs on the cheap and it failed.

A line up that includes the best keeper, as good Centre back pairing as in the league and now; legs and energy and strength in midfield offers hope.

Ward on the right and the loanee on the left will offer service. Mick has signed a bully to batter people up front in Garner and if Andre, Didz and Bish can share the creative load then we won't be a mug for anyone.

Imagine corners; chambers, Webster, Adeyemi, huws and Garner will trouble any defensive unit at this level.

We now have a team of athletes and bloody minded players that no one will want to play. Tickle the edges with The new lad from city, a fit bish and Andres break through for 20 games. Who knows?

I would only like to add a goal scorer, can Didz stay fit?

I think Evans is rolling the dice a bit here. Let's enjoy it and for once enjoy the ride. I think we have a bunch of boys that would win a fight against any team in the league now.

Dare I say we are one player from a promotion push.. spend 3 or 4 mill on a 20'a season man...

Come
On the blues..

I think this is a very good signing, particularly given the fact that he is a free agent so minimising the risk. A few years ago he looked like he was going to be a top player and he is still young enough to prove that assessment accurate.
As Arnie says above, he is a quick & direct, box to box type midfielder, who has an eye for goal, so I am delighted we are adding him to our ranks. If he continues the form he was showing with Rotherham, and does it consistently, I think we could have a really good player on our hands.

I meant to add. I saw kiefer Moore drop back
Into defence at forest green early last year. He was a beast for the last ten minutes. His touch is good enough there just..

Let's get ugly in defence and get amongst the big spenders. Love to see him
Or chambers introducing themselves to the big money Bristol boy.

Huddersfield and Newcastle went up based on brute force with a touch of class. Let's be who we can be and start solid and be no ones easy three points

Wow. Fully thought he's go budgies.

Young , talented and hopefully something to prove. Let him become a legend to really upset the scum.

Ref Dozzell, Mock rates him and hopefully he will see lots of time of the bench as well as some starts.

Teddy, is he fit? Was he ever really fit last year. A loan might be good for him but if fit and head in the right place (IE not the bookies) the hope for the same.

Where does this leave us with the fella from Hibs.

1x CB
1x striker needed.

Another winger would be a bonus.

Pleased with the MF Busisness thus far.

All of this signing of new players will be a waste of time if Baikowski is sold.To have a successful team then your most consistent and competent player must be your goalkeeper.Mick needs to extend Baikowsies contract until ay least 2020 otherwise I cannot eye toouch progress with Gerken as first team goalkeeper.

Excellent signing. The squad is coming together nicely. One of the benefits of stability is that it facilitates proper planning, even if on a very small budget.Good to see most of the players recruited during this summer and last are early or mid 20's which is bringing average age much lower. I dont mind a bit of experience though in central positions.

Its looking like of 433/451 with Adeyemi and Huws either side of Skuse in midfield, with Garner and Celina either side of McGoldrick up front. We would have 5 players there capable of scoring, even if none are 20 a season players. Rowe, Sears and Pitman are good support players. .

For the back 4 - Spence, Webster, Chambers and Knudsen look solid to me. If we go with wing backs I would like to see attacking players such as Ward on the right and Kenlock/ Nydam/Rowe on the left. It would be good to see Taylor come in to add further experience and if fit he would be a starter. I can see us in the frame next season and if Pitman/Moore leave we might add another striker. A loan would benefit Moore to help get him to championship level.

I'm very much like that 12th man, hopefully a done deal as I'm typing...

Be a very good addition, big, strong and experienced and chips in with goals which is something we desperately need from midfielders...

It's looking up at last!

Mick is starting to bring in a better class of player now - even if they aren't top tier - they are better than the awful squad players we've seen for the past 3 seasons. If we can move on Pitman and Bru and replace both like for like with better quality I will be happy. Then one more decent wide player. Then it's a team that under the right management just might compete for top 6. Still need these extra players though!

Brilliant news on the midfield front, fair play to MM and ME for getting good business done early! These additions give us great ability/ mobility in midfield and hopefully goals.
Lets hope MM can play a system that gets the midfield creating and getting on the en dof chances.
Note: McGoldrick will thrive with this type of midfield support!

Bart
Spence Webster Smith Chambo Kenlock
Ward, Skuse, Huws
McGoldrick
Garner

Shocked and surprised to see Bristol city spend £5+mill on a striker, surely we can also get a half decent hungry striker! Hugill would be a good choice.

Pleasing also to see Jack Marriott sign for Peterborough for a undisclosed substantial fee.
Any fee to us????

I can see this being a good season!!!

PS: I can see Garner being used to pull defenses apart leaving space for Didz and the midfield/wide players to do the damage.

My 1st thought was "what can ITFC give him that Norwich can't" to which I'd say the answer is guaranteed playing time. Clearly although we'll be paying him good money I'm sure, Norwich could offer him more money. So he's choosing playing time and his career over money? This is the sort of signing we need, clearly got a good attitude.
