Adeyemi Signing Confirmed
Friday, 30th Jun 2017 20:28

Town have confirmed the signing of free agent midfielder Tom Adeyemi. Earlier today, TWTD was first to reveal that the former Norwich youngster was set to join the Blues, despite interest from his old club and a number of other Championship sides.

The 25-year-old, who has agreed a two-year deal with the club having an option for a further season, was out of contract having been released by Cardiff City at the end of last season having spent the campaign on loan at Rotherham.

“I have known about the interest from Ipswich for a while but it picked up over the last few days and having spoken to the manager, it was an easy decision to come here,” Adeyemi told the club site.

“I didn’t need to speak to anyone else about the move. I know what a great club Ipswich is. I know about the history. The manager told me about his plans and how I fitted in and I have always admired him from afar as well.

“They were all key reasons why I wanted to come here, but Ipswich showed the most interest in me as well and that was important. I wanted to join a club that I felt really wanted me and I feel that here.

“I know the club have signed a few players lately so there is a bit of rebuilding going on and I’m delighted to be part of that.

“It’s a fresh start for me. It’s a challenge I’m really looking forward to taking on - to produce some good football here and play my part in helping the club compete at the top end of the table.

“It’s a very competitive league but we will start with ambitions of finishing in the top six.”

Born in Milton Keynes but brought up in Norwich, Adeyemi came through the youth ranks at Carrow Road and spent time on loan at Bradford, Oldham and Brentford before moving on to Birmingham on a permanent basis in 2013 having been released by the Canaries after making eight starts and nine sub appearances without scoring.

After a year at St Andrew’s the 6ft 1in tall midfielder joined Cardiff for a fee in excess of £1 million. Having failed to establish himself as a regular with the Bluebirds in 2014/15, he moved on to Leeds on a season-long loan the following season.

Adeyemi, who qualifies to play international football for Nigeria, joined Rotherham in August last year on a similar basis and went on to score seven goals in 29 starts and one sub appearance for the Millers.

While with the Canaries' youth set-up, Adeyemi gained A* grades in his A Levels in biology and chemistry and an A grade in maths and turned down the offer of a place at Cambridge University.

The Blues are expected to confirm the season-long loan signing of 20-year-old Manchester City youngster Bersant Celina over the weekend before they travel to Ireland for their now traditional pre-season training camp at the Carton House Hotel in Co Kildare.

Think he will be good for us
Tom Adeyemi - I'm coming around to the idea he's an inspired signing by Mullet 30 Jun 2017 17:40
A bit like Garner I wasn't entirely sure. His career is a bit similar to Huws' in that he seems to be unloved by his parent club and has done well on loan but never really held down any longevity.

I've done a bit of digging around though and it does make perfect sense. Like Garner did last time I saw him play against us, the fact he scored against us in April in a game so disheartening meant I probably went away disliking him for all the right reasons. It was an instinctive finish though, and seeing it again close up even better despite the hoofed nature of the build up.

Also his return in that side was decent. 6 in 29 is a better average than we can usually expect from our CM's lately. I spoke to a Leeds mate who said he was "like Huddlestone without the range of passing" but I think that's not quite right.

Everything I can find on him from when Roeder heralded his breakthrough at the scum to the video below at Birmingham talks about his physical presence, athleticism and drive. We saw that against the stiffs in April but I probably didn't give it the credence I should have in the circumstances.

What comes across though is that on and off the pitch is very Mick (as we'd expect). He was Brum's young player of the year and he is talked about as the kind of young bloke that reminds me of how MM celebrates Tommy Smith actually.

With Huws we might look like a Cardiff offcut midfield, but there might a little or a lot of understanding between them. I guess we'll see. However the idea of those two doing a lot of the running and graft is so far removed from making Douglas limp in and out of games pointing at where his former self would be as teams skip past us.

Also he's not just big, but this headed goal makes me already think of what Rowe and Celina can do with a cross. If Spence can chip in with some service and Knudsen/Kenlock between him and Garner we might recreate that threat from set pieces that gave us early momentum in 2014/15 from Smith and Berra

He's also the right age. I really like that about our recruitment. These feel like players that might outlast Mick and will see a return for us in terms of service or selling upwards not just jettisoning them.

I think we could do with someone else and maybe that's Tunnicliffe rather than McGinn and maybe that means Andre goes out on loan, or Bishop/Hyam goes (completely) too. It's hard to say what is in Mick's mind and if he anticipated Benyu not returning. But I like the uncertainty right now. This summer already feels different.

One thing that shows Adeyemi in a good light is him doing this sort of nonsense for local media and PR. Although he's not going to be threatening for set piece taker based on this.

Good age and hopefully a point to prove by snubbing Narwich, but not considered good enough by Cardiff.

Steady on town, can't keep up with these signings 😅 Welcome Tom, all the best for your time here.

Isgrove, Mcgin, Cellina and maybe another striker and we're looking good

Another new player and, even though he is an ex-budgie, he should help to add to the new fresh look squad. Welcome Tom.

I'm being greedy but I'd still like McGinn added, at the expense of Hyham, Bishop and Bru.

Welcome Tom I look forward to seeing you in action. Proves Ipswich are the pride of East Anglia if people are choosing us over the scum :) Should we put bets on to see the date he scores his first goal. I say 22/10/17 ;)

I said during the season, Marcus Evans is a cracking owner, probably just short of the Middlesbrough and Derby owner. He gets slated every week and continues to keep putting money in every year.
Another very good signing, still think Lloyd Isgrove on a free would a good move, get rid of bru and pitman, add a few more signings and I'm starting to look forward to the season.

A couple more decent signings, one being a striker I think I may have to renew my season ticket after all! Well done again to all at itfc.

Great news, I love the piece where he says "I know what a great club ITFC is, I KNOW ABOUT THE HISTORY" something our budgie foes will never be able to Bragg about!!!

Great signing & even better when the Pink Un are saying that Norwich were never in for him, yeah whatever!! It's great to see that Mick is actually getting the players that he's targeted & that we're not getting outbid by other clubs. Celina to sign at the weekend, hopefully get McGinn, another striker, a centre back & I'll be over the moon!! COYB!!

The lad hasn't established himself for some time, thus will hold back on the top signing opinion! As for Evans being a great owner! The masses are so easily pleased!

An astute signing. The last ex-Norwich player we signed was Ben Wyatt.

Add Isgrove and a more 20-goal-a-season goal scorer, or one who has that potential, with Taylor in if he proves fitness and we're done I'd think. With crucially Bart staying.
