Adeyemi Signing Confirmed
Friday, 30th Jun 2017 20:28

Town have confirmed the signing of free agent midfielder Tom Adeyemi. Earlier today, TWTD was first to reveal that the former Norwich youngster was set to join the Blues, despite interest from his old club and a number of other Championship sides.

The 25-year-old, who has agreed a two-year deal with the club having an option for a further season, was out of contract having been released by Cardiff City at the end of last season having spent the campaign on loan at Rotherham.

“I have known about the interest from Ipswich for a while but it picked up over the last few days and having spoken to the manager, it was an easy decision to come here,” Adeyemi told the club site.

“I didn’t need to speak to anyone else about the move. I know what a great club Ipswich is. I know about the history. The manager told me about his plans and how I fitted in and I have always admired him from afar as well.

“They were all key reasons why I wanted to come here, but Ipswich showed the most interest in me as well and that was important. I wanted to join a club that I felt really wanted me and I feel that here.

“I know the club have signed a few players lately so there is a bit of rebuilding going on and I’m delighted to be part of that.

“It’s a fresh start for me. It’s a challenge I’m really looking forward to taking on - to produce some good football here and play my part in helping the club compete at the top end of the table.

“It’s a very competitive league but we will start with ambitions of finishing in the top six.”

Born in Milton Keynes but brought up in Norwich, Adeyemi came through the youth ranks at Carrow Road and spent time on loan at Bradford, Oldham and Brentford before moving on to Birmingham on a permanent basis in 2013 having been released by the Canaries after making eight starts and nine sub appearances without scoring.

After a year at St Andrew’s the 6ft 1in tall midfielder joined Cardiff for a fee in excess of £1 million. Having failed to establish himself as a regular with the Bluebirds in 2014/15, he moved on to Leeds on a season-long loan the following season.

Adeyemi, who qualifies to play international football for Nigeria, joined Rotherham in August last year on a similar basis and went on to score seven goals in 29 starts and one sub appearance for the Millers.

While with the Canaries' youth set-up, Adeyemi gained A* grades in his A Levels in biology and chemistry and an A grade in maths and turned down the offer of a place at Cambridge University.

The Blues are expected to confirm the season-long loan signing of 20-year-old Manchester City youngster Bersant Celina over the weekend before they travel to Ireland for their now traditional pre-season training camp at the Carton House Hotel in Co Kildare.

I'd like to see us in for Isgrove and a proven striker (unless Pitman changes his attitude) but surely we can free up wages by sacking Bru now he's been in court again? Not many well paid jobs you wouldn't get some kind of sanction for that kind of behaviour.

Well chuffed with this, especially stealing him from the scum. Nice that he CHOSE us as well. Don't know much about him but 7 goals from Midfield at a bottom of the championship team in HALF a season sounds good to me! Get the Celina deal wrapped up, sign a back up CB and a more proven goal scorer and I might be tempted to renew my season ticket after all, although still sceptical about Micks tactics. However, if he can change his stubborn ways and play more attacking football and show more respect for the fans I can be won back round.

With regards to the comments on Tom not being good enough for Cardiff, Huw's wasn't either, look at him! And comments saying Marcus Evans is a fantastic owner and they've always known it, funny how you pipe up now, he's got a long way to go. As another poster said it'll be the cull of season ticket holders that's done it, his hand was forced. If this is the start of something new then great, lets just hope he doesn't go back to his old habits if we start filling the ground again.

Feeling more hopeful this season than previous ones. COYB!!

IS HE 6' 1'' with he hair,or is that a bonus ?, Seems things are beginning to happen , at least we're getting these players in with time to spare and get them settled.Evans may have seen the light, and with these new signings Mick McCarthy will need to prove he has the what it takes to bring success,a bum start to the new campaign must surely see him gone. We don't want to see McCarthy grinding down the new players with boring defensive tactics this term . Although I have firm doubts about McCarthy I do feel there is the prospect of a better season ahead after all, would be a big boost to see a decent striker signed up before we kick off .

I am thinking Evans is giving McCarthy some rope by allowing him to spend some money. Either get Town in the playoffs at the very least or he will be gone. I don't like the McCarthy style on or off the pitch and I don't believe they will change because he's too old and set in his ways. I hope I'm wrong and Town rip it up next season.

I love the fact that the PINKUN has an item running about how they don't care that we made this signed. They are so not bothered that the item has run for 4 pages!! I think that alone shows just how not bothered they are LOL.
