Samuel has shown the odd moment of class (ball control, acceleration etc) but hasn't made a good start with us. Very poor ratings overall and yet to score a goal. He'd have to do a lot to turn round that initial impression.

I wasn't very impressed when I saw him play.

We certainly don't want another 'Giles Coke' type player. Someone who gets injured and is not very good when he is able to play.

Would rather keep Pitman and play the ball on the ground. He will score if we stop playing hoofball.

Just keep Pitman as our 4th striker!!

Actually think he showed some good touches at times, but having for injured early in his time here he didn't get enough game time to show what he can do. And maybe if, as seems possible, we are gonna change ourcstuje of play, that may help too as im not sure our style of play last season suited him. Planetblue, the fact is that Pitman wants to go, so no point trying to keepvsome1 who doesn't want to be here.

Pitman obviously dosnt fit in to McCarthy's '' good bloke'' pigeon hole. He can and would score goals IF given the service , unfortunately that is not the way McCarthy thinks,.

Do we genuinely need him ? Hardly ripped up trees when he got the chance at the end of the season ?
Surely keep Pits, utilise our youngsters & spend the budget elsewhere .....

Good Barnsley can have him. Did not rate him at all. If we can't offload Pitman it's not the end of the world. I don't mind Pitman, at least he can score occasionally

He played 244 minutes for Town. 201 of those minutes where in the last 3 games when everyone was in full holiday modus. That, and he came fresh off an injury. Obvious he hasn't impressed anyone but it safe to say we haven't been able to judge him properly.

Come on Mick, you've been doing Ok with the signings so far... please don't revert back to signing 'squad players' who aren't actually good enough to beat League two teams in the cups.

i think he has something and may turn out to be a very decent striker, but like a few others have said, it's hard to judge based on the game time he got and the fact that he was coming off an injury.
Chris Wood came here on loan 2 years ago, following an injury. He wasn't up to playing more than a half & when he did play looked rusty, although had a presence and positional sense to cause problems for opposing defences. In his last 2 games here he was really starting to show his quality, but was still be rounded criticised by many fans.
When a bid of £4.5m came in for an ageing Daryl Murphy that summer (after his 27 goals), I though Wood might be an excellent replacement for him and is about 8 years younger. Ultimately we held onto Murphy at the time and Wood went to Leeds for a bargain £2m. How much is he worth now I wonder?
Ok, I'm not saying Samuel is anyway as good as Wood, but my point is that most players need a bit of time to settle into a new team at the best of times. When you throw in an injury, recuperation and trying to get match fit into the equation it's much much tougher.
As I say, I think he has something and wouldn't be disgusted were we to sign him.
It still wouldn't be a replacement for Murphy though, which I think Ward would have been had we managed to persuade him.

On the Giles Coke front. Seen in Sudbury yesterday. Of course, that's generated the rumour that he is AFC Sudbury bound. But maybe he just likes Sudbury?

Funnily enough, saw him play against AFC in preseason last year. enough said, don't want to be negative.

We need a proven goal scorer. This guy has no track record of that. His career so far consists of various loans and injuries. Also need a decent left back in my opinion. Knudsen lacks quality and I don't think young Kenlock is up to the job which is a shame as we want the youngsters to succeed. I would like to see us play a 3 5 2.
Back 3 of Chambers, Webster and Smith/Taylor. Spence as right wing back and a new left wing back. Huws, Adeyemi and Celina in the middle and any 2 of Mcgoldrick, Sears, Garner and a new signing up top. Use the pre season to experiment and find best combination.

Samuel seemed to have a good positive attitude and outlook judging by what he said in past interviews during his loan spell here, can't fault him there whatsoever. But ultimately a striker is judged on goals rather than what they say. I wouldn't mind us possibly getting him if we could get a good deal but it's a risk as he's by no means proven. I'd obviously rather somebody proven but it seems the ME cupboard is bare again in terms of transfer spending so the £2 million + proven striker we yearn for is looking unlikely. I'm not having a pop as already we have spent more money than I expected this summer, and I really like the look of Celina. But the fact remains, Murphy has never been replaced. I said it in a previous post, I'd rather have one top-class championship striker (albeit there is always the risk of injury putting all your eggs in one basket) rather than 4 or 5 strikers that all struggle to get into double figures. I expect the wages for a proven Championship striker would be no more than the wages of all the strikers we're currently carrying. We've got so many strikers on the books already we'll soon need to send them down to away matches in a separate mini bus! :-)
