McCarthy and Staff Watch Friendly in Dublin
Thursday, 6th Jul 2017 09:46
Town boss Mick McCarthy and members of his staff were at Richmond Park in Dublin last night to watch League of Ireland Premier Division St Patrick’s Athletic beat Scottish Premiership Hearts 1-0 in a pre-season friendly.
McCarthy was joined by assistant Terry Connor, goalkeeper-coach Malcolm Webster and head of performance analysis Will Stevenson.
The Town squad are currently at the Carton House Hotel in Co Kildare for their annual training camp and McCarthy usually takes in at least one match while the Blues are in Ireland.
JJ Lunney scored the only goal of the game for the home side, who featured ex-Town man Owen Garvan in their midfield.
Christophe Berra, who left the Blues at the end of the season, was in the Hearts squad along with ex-loanee Conor Sammon and Kyle Lafferty, who recently joined the Edinburgh side having been linked with Town following his release by Norwich.
Also in action for Hearts was 20-year-old defender Jordan McGhee, who was interesting Town in the summer of 2015, however, a player who plays as a right-sided centre-back or right-back would appear to be an unlikely target for the Blues at the present time.
Meanwhile, Doncaster Rovers striker John Marquis, who was linked with the Blues and a number of other clubs in April, has turned down a new contract at the Keepmoat Stadium.
The 25-year-old’s name has been mentioned in connection with the Blues on social media on a number of occasions more recently but it appears purely speculatively. Rovers boss Darren Ferguson says his club are yet to receive an offer for the former Millwall striker, who netted 26 goals last season.
St Patrick’s Athletic: Murphy, Barker, Bermingham, Byrne, G Kelly, Fagan, Brennan, Lunney, Feely, Garvan, Balk. Subs: O'Malley, Desmond, Markey, C Kelly, Grogan, Dennehy, O'Brien, Keena, J O'Hanlon, A O'Hanlon.

Let's make the assumption that Marcus Evans wants this business to flourish and ignore the theories about having a dying subsidiary over a long period of time somehow bringing a tax advantage to the ME Group.

I first noticed Bersant Celina a couple of seasons ago, he is one of a handful of names which get mentioned regularly by various fan and sportswriter accounts on Twitter and in the Manchester Evening News. He is the sort of talent that locals up here hold in high regard but haven’t seen too much of.
A Play-Off Tale from the Northlands by Von_Lager
It’s been an interesting 10 days for me reading the articles on 29th May 2017 vs 2000 and Huddersfield or Blackburn?. Interesting for me as I was at Wembley for both the 2000 and 2017 finals and both times supported the winning teams.

The slow crystallisation of next year’s squad began with first the departures of several key figures spanning the reign of McCarthy, to make way for the securing of fresh faces. Typically, it was the familiar look of Jordan Spence which came first and unsurprisingly as Town look to bounce back from a dismal season.
