Town Start Pre-Season Friendlies at Drogheda
Friday, 7th Jul 2017 16:53

Town open their first-team pre-season friendly programme with a game against League of Ireland Premier Division side Drogheda United on Saturday afternoon having spent the week training at the Carton House Hotel in Co Kildare (KO 2pm).

It’s the first time the Blues have faced Drogs in their now traditional Ireland-based summer friendly, Dublin side Shelbourne having been the opposition for the last four years.

Drogheda, who are currently second bottom of their division without a win in 10, are also in action tonight in a League of Ireland fixture at home to Finn Harps so it will be far from a first-team line-up which faces the Blues.

Drogs boss Pete Mahon, whose assistant is former Colchester midfielder Mark Kinsella, has said four or five trialists will be involved against Town, while a number of U19s players are likely to be involved as has been the case with the Shels matches.

The senior Drogheda squad includes two players familiar to Mick McCarthy, Sean Thornton and Stephen Elliott both played for him at Sunderland, while Elliott, who is currently sidelined with an injury, was subsequently also a member of his squad at Wolves.

Ben Morris and Conor McKendry having joined up with the Town squad ahead of the game with fellow youngsters Flynn Downes, George Fowler, Tristan Nydam and Pat Webber already with the party in Ireland.

As is usual in the early games in pre-season, the Blues are likely to play a different XI in each half at United Park.

Will our dynamic silky skilled midfield run riot??????? Or will it be more neck exercises?

Hmmm the jaw-droppingly amazing sounding :-) new 150 big "Fans Panel" will probably be talking about how beyond *FANTASTIC!* it was that we on July 8 2017 we clobbered Super Mick's -- (The imho very disturbingly here on TWTD & EADT now all of a sudden broadly inferred: "All-is-now-forgotten-and-forgiven" Super Mick, all merely exclusively down to him getting in several for a change truly offensively & creative *CAPABLE* i.e. "non-mindless or useless or injured-prone" signings & re-resignings) -- handpicked Irish "Sunday Pub"-like pals of Drogheda .... say 0-10!!! lol

Dead-Awesome Drogheda United in last 8 league games = No wins & combined score of 1-19!!!!!!!!!!!! Aye that's no typo people, 1 meager goal they have managed to scored in the juggernaut-like Irish PL in the last 720+ minutes, and as mentioned in the article their relegation-threatened 1st-Team actually plays a competitive league game against Finn Haps TONIGHT???!!! .... meaning that the team they field in tomorrow's *breathtaking* preseason friendly with ITFC will be an even much weaker unit than the one who somehow have amassed that aforementioned truly giga abysmal streak! lol

This preseason schedule is like so many other preseasons under Super Mick simply put: Emphatically LAUGHABLE!!! (in it's sheer lack of competitive & seriously testing-capable opposition) that it reminds me of this somewhat equally LAUGHABLE umpteenth "Der Untergang"/"Downfall" parody I saw yesterday:

... and on that joyful little note I think I will once again retract back in to my voluntary "exile" from ALL things Marvelous Marcus & his Snake Oil selling spin-doctor Immaculate Ian's ITFC!

More like us taking this match to get a few fans through the gate to help raise a few quid for them.
