Town Step Up Bodvarsson Interest as Pitman Closes in on Pompey Move
Thursday, 13th Jul 2017 12:50

Brett Pitman’s impending exit to Portsmouth, as revealed by TWTD earlier today, will see the Blues bring in another striker and we understand Wolves’ Icelandic international frontman or wide player Jon Dadi Bodvarsson is currently top of their list of targets.

Bodvarsson was first linked by Midlands sources on Tuesday and we understand Town have intensified their interest as Pitman’s departure on a free transfer moves closer to being confirmed.

The Jersey-born striker is believed to have travelled to Fratton Park today for talks regarding personal terms and to undergo a medical, the clubs having agreed their side of the switch.

We understand discussions between Town and Wolves regarding Bodvarsson are ongoing with a permanent move and a season-long loan both still on the table.

The 25-year-old, who has two years left on his contract, is believed to be surplus to requirements at Molineux and has not travelled with the rest of the squad for their pre-season camp in Austria having been given an extended summer break.

Bodvarsson started his career with Selfoss in his home country before moving on to Norwegian club Viking, German side Kaiserslautern and then Wolves for £1 million in the summer of 2016.

Last season 6ft 3in tall Bodvarsson made 24 starts and 24 sub appearances for Wolves, scoring three goals.

Against Town at Molineux last August Bodvarsson, who has been capped 32 times by Iceland, scoring twice, won a penalty which he then took and had saved by Bartosz Bialkowski.

Links with Doncaster striker John Marquis are understood to be no more than social media rumour.

Permanent player leaves. Permanent replacement a must. A loan simply won't help long term.

Not sold on this at all unless Mick sees him more as wide man.

He may have talent, I know nothing about him but based on the descriptions of him he just doesn't sound like what we need up top.

Sam Gallagher from Soton if we are going down the loan route would be my choice.

Or how about looking more into the John Marquis possibility - sounds like he could be an option, based on his goals tally.

Those of you complaining about this being a loan, it states in the article that both a permanent and loan move are still on the table. Personally I think a permanent move for Bodvarsson would be a great move. Same with Marquis, either of these on a permanent would be good.

Why sell Pitman our best goalscorer in my eyes, him and Joey Garner up top would be superb.

3 goals in 24 starts and 24 sub appearances? Really? Even if he doubles he goal tally he's still way short of what we need.

have to be honest! im not convinced by this. Im very concerned by our Striker scouting.
First garner - never scored more than 7 goals in 1 season playing in the championship, and could only score 7 in the scottish prem.
now Bodvarsson - Never scored more than 9 goals in any league season.

neither of these are what i consider the front man we need. I am happy we are freshening up the squad but we need a prolific striker and we havnt had one in years.

Pitmans body language and attitude was very poor towards the end of the season. Arguing with team mates is not a good sign and he has no pace now. A shame as I was pleased when we signed him but he is not the player he once was. Division One may well be his level now and will be an asset to Pompey in the short term.

I have a really good feeling about this Icelandic chap. Wolves have had a big overhaul of players and changes in management etc - maybe a fresh start at a settled club like ours is what he needs. Against us he proved that, on his day, he can be a handful at this level. He's a good age with plenty of international experience. I'd love the signing to be on a permanent deal rather than a loan though.

Exactly the type of striker MM likes: big, physical and works hard. Not adverse to this signing, think we would have four strikers that all have different qualities. Yes his scoring rate isn't great, but neither was Murphy's when he signed.

Agree with Hoppy, Marquis would be a more exciting signing although Bodvarsson's versatility is obviously a plus given we need coverage both up front and out wide. 2 for 1 would fit the criteria.

Hope we get this deal done. Am I the only person who is glad Pitman is off thought he looked lazy and uninterested

Letting Pitman go for Free is absolutely ridiculous!
The man could command a couple hundred thousand easily!

Permanent replacement a must!

I've been keeping quiet on here but I can't let this one go. This sums up everything that is wrong with our manager (I will not speak his name). This 'striker' is 6ft 3in tall and, based on his goal scoring record, is obviously being considered because of his DEFENSIVE qualities.

1 more season to go. Let's just hope and pray that we don't go down.

Excellent. Another non-scoring striker. He'll fit right in.

He is awful, word from Wolves fans is they would love to see him go, runs his socks off but doesn't have any ability to match, won't score more than 5 goals all season

Neither player will fire us to promotion. Like Pitman but he was gone in April.

Why is no one screaming for Tom Lawrence. Why derby and not us. Surely an investment. Another season like last and he is worth well over $10m to a Premier side.... if that is not us.

Oh well, as long as he runs his socks off. Doesnt matter if his goalscoring record is woeful does it? Not important for a striker to score goals. As long as he runs about like a headless chicken and at the end of the game Mick can say "hes a proper worker, never stopped running..." that's all that matters...

Boring player with a terrible scoring record, perfect for Mick! Counting down the days until his contract ends and we can get a decent manager in! This is pathetic!

I've never knock or pass comment on a player till I see him live! I'll ask the Q: what did Lawrence do at Cardiff & BlackBurn on loan? Answer Nothing! What was D:Murphy goal scoring record like before signing on loan & eventually Pernamently Answer Poor: Let's all support him before judging him! I see us using him on the right of a three or Wide in a 4: We still need a Striker to fill Murphy's boots: I'll keep saying it I'd sign Gallagher (Southampton) on loan:

Couldn't be more underwhelmed by this. we are signing a striker who has scored 3 goals in 48 Appearances and is surplus to requirements at a team that only did marginally better than us last season - Christophe Berra had a better goal scoring record than that !!
