Blues Target Bodvarsson Set for Reading
Thursday, 13th Jul 2017 22:21

Town target Jon Dadi Bodvarsson is reportedly set to join Reading from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

According to the Wolverhampton Express and Star, Icelandic international Bodvarsson is closing in on a permanent move to the Royals.

The news is likely to come as a blow to the Blues with the 25-year-old understood to be top of Town’s wish-list as they look to bring in another striker with Brett Pitman closing in on a switch to Portsmouth.

Discussions regarding a proposed move to Portman Road had been ongoing, although were a long way off being close to a conclusion, with the Blues preferring to take Bodvarsson on loan for the season.

However, it now appears Town will now have to look elsewhere for their second striker signing of the summer.

Pitman is understood to have been at Pompey today to discuss personal terms and to undergo a medical ahead of his free transfer to the League One club.

Well done Town P1$$ing about trying to do it on the cheap just get the deal done ffs

Michael11 added 22:36 - Jul 13
Well let that be a lesson to stop dithering about! Pitman was always going to find a team willing to give him a deal. Just get the deals done and stop messing around!

Not exactly devestated about this. Didn't really want him anyway, especially not on loan. Would rather stick to the 5 point plan and buy a younger proven target man to replace Murphy. Still plenty of time and plenty of players out there

It's worrying that a player who has scored only 3 goals for Wolves is "top of the wish-list" to be our new striker, and depressing that as soon as another club comes in for him we seem to have lost out anyway. I note we were linked with a loan more yet Reading expected to sign him permanently.

Perhaps we should scotch the rumour about Evans loosening the purse strings. While paying the 'undisclosed fees' for Huws and Garner was welcome we will get money for Benyu and who knows who else Evans will sell by the end of August. No exciting young signings in line with the 5-point plan. 11 players out and 3 in compared to the squad at the end of January.

Hugill, from Preston NE, should be the one but he costs far more than ME's £1m limit on a player. Thought they'd changed their approach to purchasing players by being more proactive, unfortunately it seems not. Once again it seems like we are dragging our heels on signing players and we are only three weeks away from the new season!

Wouldn't be at all shocked if we signed Craig Mackail-Smith, or another striker who is available on a free.

NITFC added 23:26 - Jul 13
Craig Mackail-Smith has a significantly better goal scoring record PJewell (although clearly past his best)

oh thank god, best bit of transfer news in four years. he is truly awful. ideal signing would be Jordan Hugil, but going to cost around 2.5m. I said at the start of the window we should sign James Vaughan from Bury. Scored 24 goals last season for a team that finish towards the bottom of league 1. typically Sunderland are signing him now for 900k.

seems to be a load of cr@p that we were interested. Sounds like he was always set for Reading.

You can't blame him really. He's got the choice of a team that just missed out on promotion that also plays nice football under a progressive manager. Why would he want to come here instead and play for a team that struggled for most the season and play for a manger that would order him to hoof it like the Denver Broncos and probably be paid lower wages too. The only argument for him coming here is that he'd of probably had a better chance of playing more. As long as he's a proper bloke and he likes to be played out position he might of fitted right in. But alas we'll never know. Never mind, given the key criteria for us signing players is that they must of scored against us there should be plenty of other options! Just providing they don't cost a penny over 1 million as it seems anything over 1 million risks tipping the Marcus Evans Coup balance sheet over the edge! Next please...

Great news

Marquis a far better option.

intercept12 added 07:58 - Jul 14
I had him pinned as next season's scapegoat after the departing Douglas.
I think the papers have cottoned on to Mick's penchant for players who only score against Town and/or the bottom 3.

I question our scouting network sometimes. There are a lot of talent around in Europe, but yet we seem to mainly scout the Championship rejects. Don´t know much about Marquis, but surely he would be a better addition than Bödvarsson?

So ? Move on.

Everyone at Cambridge United are worried Luke Berry will leave. Decent player. Rumour is that there is a really low contract release value, something like £250k. Was in the team of the year for league 2. Scored 17 from midfield.......

...Hold on, we bypass midfield..... I'll fetch my coat!

midastouch added 09:40 - Jul 14
It's going to be hard for us to be winning any bidding wars for other potential strikers, all a rival manager has to do is bid £1 million + 1p and we're done for!

Cheshire_Blue added 09:47 - Jul 14
Clearly Reading see something the so called experts on here don't !!

guentchev added 10:47 - Jul 14
We missed out on a good signing here, though I'm sure most will disagree.

NorseBlue added 10:57 - Jul 14
According to my Wolves-supporting mates here in the Midlands, he is a crowd favourite and a really valuable player. They're really sad to see him leave, despite the fact they're able to splash out £15 million on individual players now.

runningout added 11:18 - Jul 14
Suddenly he's a half decent player when wanted by other desperate teams like us..

Ipswichbusiness added 11:37 - Jul 14
Not only would a player like Hugill cost too much to sign, he'd be unlikely to want to come here after what happened last season unless bribed with more money than we have. We should be looking for a young hungry forward from League or two.
