Djurgåden Defender Olsson Going Nowhere
Thursday, 31st Aug 2017 16:38

Djurgåden centre-half Jonas Olsson won’t be moving on during this transfer window, according to the Stockholm-based side’s sporting director Bosse Andersson, the 34-year-old former West Brom man having been reported to be the reason for Town manager Mick McCarthy’s recent scouting trip to Sweden.

The Blues are looking to add a central defender to their squad before tonight’s 11pm deadline with their loan move for Brighton’s Connor Goldson currently on hold while the Seagulls look for a central defensive addition of their own, a loan deal for Club Brugge’s Stefano Denswil having collapsed earlier today.

Town meanwhile are sounding out alternative options but Olsson isn’t among the potentially available targets, according to Andersson.

“We will not lose any player before the window closes," he told Fotboll Direkt, the site which claimed Olsson was the reason for McCarthy taking in Djurgåden's 2-1 victory over Halmstad.

“We have many good players and there have been inquiries. Specifically with Jonas Olsson and other players it’s all about speculation from the media, and there’s nothing I will comment on. You can say never in the future, but nothing will happen now.”

Town are reported to have spoken to Derby regarding the availability of Jason Shackell, who briefly played for McCarthy at Wolves, while Nottingham Forest’s Jack Hobbs was linked at the weekend but with the East Midlanders unwilling to allow him to move on.

We understand Town showed some interest in former Blue Alex Bruce prior to his two-game non-contract spell with League One Bury.

Bruce, 32, is again a free agent having left Gigg Lane and could well come back into McCarthy’s thinking if a deal for Goldson can’t be concluded before tonight’s 11pm deadline, although a number of other clubs are believed to be keen.

If we're left having to take Alex Bruce back ... [sigh].
