Blues boss Mick McCarthy is delighted that on-loan striker Kieffer Moore is continuing his impressive goalscoring start to the season with Rotherham in League One, having taken his total to eight at the weekend, and says he could look to bring the 25-year-old, now the third tier's top scorer, back to Portman Road in January if that form continues.

“Fantastic, isn’t it?” McCarthy said regarding the 6ft 5in tall frontman, who was signed from Forest Green Rovers for £20,000 in January.

Rotherham boss Paul Warne recently said he would like to sign Moore on a permanent basis but McCarthy says the Blues have no immediate plans to enter into discussions regarding a deal with either the Millers or anyone else with a number of clubs having been interested in signing him in the summer.

“Why would we?” he added. “What if he’s got 15 goals before January? Even if it dries up he’s still got eight. Why do a deal, why don’t we consider that he might be good for us?"

If he does score something like 15 goals by January - when the Blues are entitled to cut the loan short - might he look to bring Moore back to Town?

“You know full well I’ve got to consider [that],” he said. “I took a real chance of Kieffer, he came in and he did all right in a couple of games, but the reality was, this season, we’ve got better strikers in this league.

“[The idea] was always to put him out to Rotherham, he’s done brilliantly at Rotherham and they’d love to sign him, but why on earth would we even try to do a deal now?

“Maybe he’ll come back, plays in the Championship. And that would suit me better, if he’s ripping it up and he’s good enough, that would suit me better.”

Torquay-born Moore is contracted to the Blues for the rest of the season with the Blues having an option for a further campaign.

Meanwhile, McCarthy says he’s yet to hear whether Aldershot want to keep midfielder Adam McDonnell and defender George Fowler beyond their initial month, which is up after this weekend, but says the pair having impressed since joining the Vanarama National League side.

“Not heard from them,” he said. “Both of them have done well. [Academy head of player development] Bryan Klug’s been to watch them two or three times and we’ve had them watched every game I think, certainly we’ve had a scout there.

“They’ve been good, are doing really well, but I’ve not heard from Aldershot yet. Gary Waddock will ring me if wants them.”

Taricco_Fan added 18:47 - Sep 25 Must admit, what I saw of Moore last season gave me the impression he was a little out of depth at Championship level. That said, it was a huge step up for him and he didn't get a run of games to acclimatise. Just goes to show what regular football can do and I will be more than happy to be proven wrong about him if he comes back here and adds goals to the team. Whatever the outcome, a £20k player sitting at the top of the League One scoring chart will inevitably prove to be good business for Town.

stormypetrel added 21:26 - Sep 25 The person that gave KM the chance was McCarthy...the person that has given himself the chance is Moore through playing as he has from the off for Rotherham ...like droping all in Ireland and going straight to Austria for Rotherham...oh and scoring goals...McCarthy gave the lad a chance and he has seized it...recognise the league he was playing in with Forest Green (?)and how the lad has stepped up....and McCarthy took the punt no one else.....praise and credit where it is due. I am sure there is a saying something along the lines that it is harder to be unpleasant but easy to be nice....or some such thing.....

Len_Brennan added 09:46 - Sep 26 Had Rotherham signed him directly from Forest Green, in the summer or when we did during the January window, there would be plenty of fans already suggestion that he is one we should be looking at for the next window. A big lad at 6ft 5", scoring goals for fun just one level below the Championship, laying the ball off for others around him, sounds ideal ... finally we could have that replacement for Murphy, maybe a cheeky bid of £1m - £1.5m might be enough to tempt Rotherham etc. ! It's a funny old game, Saint.

Bluewelshman added 09:51 - Sep 26 I think town should take up his option for next season, as having a tall target man, who seems to be comfortable in front of goal is a rare thing for Ipswich. I remember Ian Marshall and the great contribution he made to us, and I can see that sort of player on Mr Moore. I just hope that Mick can picture a Moore - Garner partnership, which in my opinion would be quite an effective attack , along with McGoldrick sitting behind them. COYB

If he scores say 12-15 by January MM could give him a run here to see if he can cut it or (probably best) leave him at Rotherham to score 20+ and boost his value. Then extend his contract and see how he goes in friendlies. Personally he'd be good addition for us from January with his height and potential goals and if he worked out then who knows!

dirtydingusmagee added 08:58 - Oct 2 he is good enough now if the supply was good enough, I think too many people put him down before he ad even kicked a ball for us [as often happens] .If we cant and don't sign recognised top players, they are al ways too old,past it, useless, or being playing at pub level , Well I think Moore is under rated.
