Norwich Striker: We're a Better Club
Sunday, 15th Oct 2017 20:41

Norwich striker Nelson Oliveira has turned up the heat under next Sunday’s East Anglian derby against the Blues at Portman Road by claiming the Canaries are “a better club” than Town with “better players”.

Portuguese international frontman Oliveira, 26, provided Blues boss Mick McCarthy with material for his pre-match team-talk having scored Norwich’s late equaliser after coming on as a sub during Saturday’s 1-1 home draw with Hull City.

“I know it’s an important match for us and for the fans because it’s a derby, and we go there to win the game because we are better than them, we have better players than them, we are a better club than them, so we go there for the win,” he told The Pink ‘Un.

“I’ve played in a few derbies in Portugal. To be fair in every country I have been I’ve played in derbies. Even at Nottingham Forest I played against Derby, and that’s a massive derby as well.

“I think personally they are the games I prefer to play. I prefer to play in tough games over easy games because in easy games even if you don’t want it, your motivation is good — just not as good as if it’s a derby or a massive game. It’s the passion — and I enjoy playing in them.”

Oliveira, who has scored five goals this season, is yet to feature in an East Anglian derby having joined the Canaries after last year’s Portman Road game and been injured for the Carrow Road meeting, both matches ending in 1-1 draws.

Sunday's game, which kicks off at midday, is being shown live on Sky Sports.

oldegolde: Where do you get the idea that their youth system is superior to ours? I'd say that this is the only department where the spirit of the TWTD Ipswich we love to remember is still evident. I give you Dozzel, Downes, Nydam just as starters. Klug is a genius and has been one of the club's greatest servants of all time.

This is Norwich's last year of parachute money, so they need to make sure they get promoted this season or they could be in this league for many years to come.

I will agree with him on a couple of things, at present their team is better than ours because they seem to be allowed to play football trying to win not avoid defeat, recently they have produced as many first team players as us plus won the FA youth cup. As a club they will never be better than us.

@oldegold

Better for 14 years? They were in League One less than 10 years ago.

didn't need him to tell us any of that, our Manager does that every week regardless of opposition in his pre match interview.!

Better players? Undoubtedly. Better club? Anybody who has a good knowledge about football will laugh at that comment, whether an Ipswich fan or not

Whwn Bobby Robson was our manager and we had a better team than anywhere in England . You never heard scummers admit to that fact. They wont even admit it now. You will never hear me say they have better players than us. Its not true and we will prove it on sunday.

Oh dear, he joins a long list of Norwich strikers we loathe, Robert Fleck, Grant Holt and now this fella. Never mind Nelson, it's sour grapes as in your camp Cameron Jerome is a better striker than you!!!

You are NOT, Nelson Oliveira. Here in Germany we know about Ipswich Town all along! Once a Super-Power in European Football! But who is Norwich City? Only one season and six games in Europe do they have in their history.

...okay, I'm a little bit biased ...but facts are facts!
See you all on Sunday at PR! ;)

Blueblood 90...in the last 14 years they have been promoted to the Premiership twice..don't forget that even allowing for a wobble in the First. We are treading water in the Championship for over 15 years..and still going nowhere under the present regime...facts are facts even if hard to swallow.

Regretably he's right. Certainly play more entertaining football & don't have a dinosaur as a manager who is caught in a time lapse when football was more like rugby league. However he may just have done enough to motivate some of the players, he's certainly got a few of you going, lets hope it rubs off on the team. The fact is our current form is relegation form, we have a crxp manager and a board too scared of ME to speak out. At least Delia Smith (if she's still a director) has put her heart & soul into the budgies. I would love to see an emphatic win for Town but although an eternal optomist I really cannot see it coming

We are by far the better team because we are Ipswich Town. We have much better players because they are our players. We have a better ground (One of their stands is a shi7e B&B). Delia Smith's recipes use lard. Our fans and songs are better. and then there is there was Grant Holt with his movember porno tash. That image will forever cast and indelible scum smear over Norwich and the surrounding Norfolk area.

I am afraid that I have marked more people down on this than any other article in 10 years on here.

Why? Mainly because the posters are either incorrect or just make childish remarks.

I have been a supporter for 55 years, season ticket holder since they were introduced for standing in Churchmans, share holder, and have a brick in the wall.I don't expect praise for this but put it so that some idiot doesn't call me a Canary !

Oldegold and Hegans heroes are basically correct;but I feel they have only been superior for some 7 years.

Friedi and Happybeingblue have both alluded to the days when Ipswich were definitely superior, for 45+ years since we won the old Div 2 to obtain promotion to top Div which was won the next year;having far more silverware to show for it.

19 April 2009 think was the last time Ipswich won when Jim Magiltons team beat Norwich 3-2, the brilliant Giovani Dos Santos scoring a pen, with the mighty Quinn and John Stead the other scorers. This took Town to 9th.3 days later Evans sacked Magic.!!!

Think following season Norwich spent in the 3rd tier but the next year we were humiliated, both home and away;aggregate score 9-2.As somebody else has said since then they have had 2 short spells in the Prem, and presently sit just above us in the Championship.

I don't feel the hatred for Norwich like some, which in my opinion has clouded their judgement.Perhaps this is because I come from neighbouring Essex.
