Celina One of Six Changes at Cardiff
Tuesday, 31st Oct 2017 19:06

Town boss Mick McCarthy has made six changes to the side which beat Burton Albion 2-1 on Saturday for this evening’s match away against Cardiff City with Bersant Celina among those coming into the team.

Also starting are Dominic Iorfa, Tommy Smith, making his first appearance since the opening day, Flynn Downes, Grant Ward, Kevin Bru, handed his first start of the season.

Adam Webster, Martyn Waghorn, David McGoldrick, Jordan Spence and Freddie Sears are all rested and drop to the bench, while Tristan Nydam is missing from the 18.

The Blues look set to start in a 4-3-3/4-5-1 system with Downes and Bru, who came on as a sub against the Brewers, in midfield with Cole Skuse and Ward and Celina in the wide roles and Joe Garner the lone central striker.

Cardiff are without striker Kenneth Zohore and midfielder Aron Gunnarsson due to ankle injuries and full-back Joe Bennett, who has a calf problem.

The Bluebirds make three changes from the team which drew 0-0 with Millwall at the weekend with Lee Tomlin, Omar Bogle and Callum Paterson coming into the side for Craig Bryson, Blues summer target Danny Ward - who both drop to the bench - and the injured Bennett.

Former Town keeper Brian Murphy and ex-loan winger Liam Feeney are both among the Cardiff subs.

Cardiff: Etheridge, Peltier, Morrison (c), Ecuele Manga, Tomlin, Ralls, Bamba, Paterson, Mendez-Laing, Bogle, Hoilett. Subs: Murphy, Ward, Feeney, Halford, Damour, Bryson, Gounongbe.

Town: Bialkowski, Iorfa, Knudsen, Chambers (c), T Smith, Skuse, Downes, Bru, Celina, Ward, Garner. Subs: Gerken, Webster, Waghorn, McGoldrick, Spence, Connolly, Sears. Referee: Oliver Langford (West Midlands).

Why has Webster being dropped? and do we really need 3 defenders on the bench? strange team selection. Hope it works and we get 3 points.

Well, they say don't change a winning team. I know we were poor at Burton so perhaps this is justified but I am surprised Webster and Waghorn are dropped. It must be hard for the defence to build an understanding with the changes.

Oh well, COYB! Let's get a surprise result tonight.

McCarthy has lost the plot. Tactically inept.

Very strange team selection, but Mick knows best - apparently. It's certainly why he gets paid a million a year. Let's hope we win.

....... well, well, well - not sure all these changes were necessary. Symptomatic of someone thrashing about in the dark it seems. surely playing players in rightful positions i.e McGoldrick, etc; would have been more akin to progress.

Guess with all these changes a ready made excuse is there for the taking, if we lose - half a team haven't played together as a unit..... !!

Here's hoping for a 'Tale of the Unexpected' anyway.

6 changes from a winning side, interesting. Celina starts, happy days, nothing to lose so let's go for it. Not surprised to see the ‘old guard' remaining in place, Webster for Chambers would make us stronger imo.

I think MM with that selection has told Town fans to do one!

Absolutely ridiculous to change it so much. Waghorn is scoring goals but gets dropped.

Maybe he is hoping we get well stuffed and he gets sacked !!

Why are Waghorn & Webster on the bench

Cakeman added 19:17 - Oct 31
Unless Waghorn is not 100% fit I cannot understand why he is on the bench.
Very unusual to drop a leading goal scorer but then again our manager will do whatever he can to wind up the supporters.

It's accepted that with three games in a week some changes will be necessary. Good to see Downes back but not sure about Iorfa. It looks like MM is back to plan A go for a point but maybe get three!
For me 6 changes are too many but what do I know!!

Stick Webster in midfield. Strange call on Celina. Would be better off the bench in this physical type of game. Too many changes. But Mick knows best. COYB

Makes some sense
Webster - still coming back from 9 months injury - needs a rest
Nydam - first season - needs a rest
McGoldrick - can he really play 2 games in a week- rather he was fresh for Saturday
Waghorn - when playing in midfield I think he can go missing/ fall asleep and we will be defending tonight

The other 2 I guess could play but are they any better than Iorfa/ Celina
Sears - could have a done job in the running a lot role- maybe better suited than Celina to this
Spence - not really a right back,

Midfield looks lightweight, Bru blows our @rse after 30 when fit, I like Downes but he will have to do the work of 3 tonight. Ward has disappointed, Celina - we will see- I can see him being isloated -
Play for free kicks
Get to 70 at 0-0 bring on Waghorn and Mcgoldrick to create some mayhem and knick it but we do not get to 70 without conceding against the better teams
I'm not optimistic

This side was picked to make Celina look an inadequate fool and for McCarthy to announce to the media that he was right about him........Its all about HIM and not the football club.
Marcus Evens you ignorant pratt....Your manager is destroying your club but NEVER the fans

Bru? This is madness! I think Bru is ok but to bring him back now? Are that light in CMF still?

Pleased Celina plays

If there is one thing guaranteed to sap morale it's whinging and moaning. maybe some of the players on the bench have knocks or are struggling with fitness, no mater what MM does it's wrong (I know he has been a prat lately with the things he has said), so lets forget all this tripe on here and get behind the Town. I fancy us for a win tonight!!

It's obvious Mick has decided we're gonna lose this one.

6 changes to a winning side Smith in from nowhere , goal scorer dropped while striker who hasn't scored for weeks keeps his place , and player told to find a new club starts . Yet Knudsen, Chambers and Skuse all selected , one of highest paid managers in league knows best

Mick in win-win with Celina. If great, he's a genius. If not, can say 'told you so'. Surprised MM saw this as the game for him.

Waghorn and Webster omissions are mystifying to say the least. I'll reserve judgement on this as it could be a masterstroke or a disaster - I fear the latter.
