Town Claimed to Want More Than £4m for Bialkowski
Tuesday, 2nd Jan 2018 13:10

Town reportedly want more than £4 million for keeper Bartosz Bialkowski with Crystal Palace continuing to be linked with the 30-year-old Pole.

According to the Daily Mirror, Bialkowski is top of the Eagles’ wish-list and they have already made enquiries to Town, who want "in excess of £4 million" for their Player of the Year for the last two seasons.

When there was interest in Bialkowski from Wolves early on last summer, the Blues were understood to have put a £5 million price tag on Bialkowski’s head.

Palace were first mentioned in connection with the Town keeper just over a week ago when they were said to be keeping a watching brief on the former Southampton and Notts County man. However, we understand they weren’t represented at either of Town’s home games over Christmas.

The Eagles, who are known to be targeting another keeper in January, have also been linked with Paris Saint-Germain’s Kevin Trapp, Manchester United’s Sam Johnstone, who is on loan at Aston Villa but now strongly tipped to join West Brom, and QPR’s Alex Smithies in recent weeks.

Asked about the Palace-Bialkowski link last week, manager Mick McCarthy said: “I know [there was a story linking Palace with Bialkowski], but everybody knows Crystal Palace are looking for a goalkeeper.

“And I think they’ve looked in the Championship. I saw Alex Smithies got a mention at QPR, and there are loads of them being mentioned.

“I don’t know, they’ll be doing their due diligence on all the goalkeepers. All everybody knows is that Bart is a really top Championship keeper.

“But they might be looking for somebody who has got Premier League experience. I don’t know. I’m not picking and choosing their team.”

Bialkowski is out of contract at the end of the season but with the Blues having an option for a further year which there is little doubt they will take up before the end of the season.

Well thats not a huge amount for a Premiership club so if they really do want him I dont think the price tag will be an obstacle, unfortunately!

Every team that successfully gets out of this league has a core down the spine of the team, from back to front. Bart is without doubt 1 of ours that we should build on. I genuinely don't think we'll replace him adequately in Jan and it'll cost us points = zero prospect of promotion.

Bart could / should be adequate for this level and above for he next 3/4 seasons min. I think we'll learn a lot from ME if he goes.

Surely we can't sell our best player for a measley £4m? Even for our standards that's a low figure for a top player like Bart. At least £7m.

£4 million? Is that a joke? In today's market, and Bart being our most consistent and arguably crucial player, we should accept nothing less than 10

£200,000 per point he saves us per season. That's a bargain for someone, and a disaster for us.

£4m + Wayne Hennessey?

Another senior player who's contract is in his last 6 months, if they take up the option of another season, no doubt we will be in the same situation in a years time.

Why does the club only think in the short terms on players contracts, I am fed up of continually being in this groundhog circle every 18-24 months.

4m is that all..... at least double that.....why do they always under value our own players....why sell NOT HAPPY

5 million plus Wayne Hennessey. Wouldn't have any problem with Bart leaving, he has been superb for us over the last three seasons and deserves his chance at the premier league. In return for 5 million I think all parties will be happy, BART deserves to play in the premier league.

He goes for that little as we don't need to sell, we do have the option of another year on his contract, he and his family are very happy here, I feel there'll be even less people renew their season tickets.

We don't want to sell him. We don't need to sell him, therefore only silly money £10m plus before we even consider an offer.

The knock on effect will be that if he goes then every club will know we are after a first choice keeper and their asking prices will be just as much.

Would Notts County be due a percentage of the fee if he does go?

Dont know why people get so aggy about these links and reports. As a town fan you should know 90% of rumours are a load of rubbish!
Bart wont leave, he likes Ipswich and we would be stupid to sell him if we had any hope of one day getting into the Prem!

I swear to god if we lose him to a team like Palace or anyone for that matter I will really feel unease prob for a long while. Before Bart I can't forget how many clown goals we gave away due to stupid goalkeeping errors.

Deano is a great backup keeper but I just can't see him being consistent enough to win us points for a promotion push or anywhere close to that matter.

Out of anyone at this club I would keep Bart even over Waghorn (Waggy would be an extremely close 2nd). Bart has saved us so many points in the last 2-3 seaasons and prob even subconsciously changed my view on Pols :P

Do I want him to go? NO Do I think anything under £4mill is a joke? YES

But ... it's not about me and what I think ... it's about a top class bloke and player who might just want to play in the Premier League and so to stand more change on getting his international caps to round off his playing career? And the increased financial security it will bring - even at Palace?

If you love someone ... let them go .... as long as it REALLY IS Bart who wants to go AND we get EVERY PENNY to spend on the TEAM (NOT the squad - but those good enough to improve the team from day one)

Stick a one in front and then play ball. Current market prices please but then when have we ever got what we should have! I know he is out of contract but that's a p.ss take and they need to stay up

OwainG1992 added 14:51 - Jan 2
Anyone else worried he will be gone by the end of January? I really hope not but I see it happening. I honestly think 4/5 mill will be accepted too.

I get that goalkeepers go cheaper than other positions, but looking at the market nowadays, we should be chasing at least £8M! If we have ay desire to get promoted, we need to keep our best players. We won't get a keeper on the level Bart is for years!! Give him a new contract and end this transfer saga!!
