Smith Close to Colorado Switch
Saturday, 6th Jan 2018 13:04

TWTD understands Blues defender Tommy Smith is close to joining MLS side the Colorado Rapids.

Smith, 27, joined Town at 16 after moving from New Zealand and has been a regular for much of his time at Portman Road, but has largely been behind skipper Luke Chambers and Adam Webster this season.

The All Whites international will not be involved in this afternoon’s FA Cup third round tie against Sheffield United at Portman Road with the move likely to go through this week.

Smith has made 251 starts and 17 sub appearances for Town, scoring 23 goals.

Colorado are managed by Anthony Hudson, who was New Zealand boss until November.

Yesterday, manager Mick McCarthy revealed that the Blues had made a loan enquiry to Brighton regarding centre-half Connor Goldson, who was close to joining Town in August.

The 25-year-old seems likely to join the Blues once the Seagulls have added another defender to their squad.

Meanwhile, we understand Crystal Palace have cooled in their pursuit of Blues keeper Bartosz Bialkowski.

Talks between the clubs have continued throughout the week but with no agreement reached regarding the overall package.

It’s believed the Eagles have turned their attention to one of their other targets with McCarthy having confirmed their interest yesterday, revealing they have a list of at least six potential targets yesterday.

skelly202, Swn98 wasn't trying to provoke a reaction , that was just the norm for him ,most of us make allowances for him and his take on things now, and its more entertaining than the crap we are expected to pay to watch .

I bet he's absolutely buzzing getting away from Mickey Mouse McCarthy! Good luck Tommy. You were going to waste here under Not So Mighty Mick so why not explore a new and exciting opportunity for you and your family. I bet Monty Patterson will be next!

Good luck Tommy...and than you for spending so many seasons at the club.

First of many that will leave this transfer window by all accounts.....

There are a number of players that have been left in the wings that really want a fresh start too (Morris, Pattersen etc). Don't blame them...they want to get on with their careers.

So we've let Tommy go in the place of a loan inquiry? Sure, that makes perfect business sense.

Our team is decimated with injury and we'll lose a ton of loanees at the end of the season. What will we have left at the end of the season? A new manager and yet another season of rebuilding.... Seems all we do is rebuild and tear down.

worth pointing out that this is the only website on the internet at the moment saying Tommy is actually going. Other articles say Colorado are 'interested' and most of them r using twtd as a source anyway

Lack of respect for a Town servant in the mould of Stockwell. Due a testimonial but it was never even rumoured. A new low.
