Free Agent Cotterill Latest Link
Tuesday, 9th Jan 2018 16:42

Town are one of a long list of clubs claimed to be interested in free agent former Birmingham winger David Cotterill.

According to Football Insider, Rangers, the Blues, Derby County, Nottingham Forest, Reading and QPR are all considering moving for the 30-year-old Wales international, whose contract at St Andrew’s was terminated by mutual consent last month after a three-and-a-half-year spell.

Much-travelled Cotterill started his career with Bristol City then moved on to Wigan, Sheffield United, Swansea, Portsmouth (loan), Barnsley and Doncaster before spending time back on loan at Ashton Gate in the first half of 2017.

Prior to his Birmingham exit he had made four starts and four sub appearances this season with his most recent game back in November.

While Town are out to add to their midfield options during January - and will be looking at the free agent market - they’re targeting central players to cover for those currently out injured rather than wide men.

As stated, he's a wide player and we need central mids , no thank you, move on.

Doesn't stay anywhere for long, sounds like trouble to me, too old and not playing in our weaker positions.

Typical Mick ambition .... that said not sure this story holds any truth. Would Derby really be interested in such a journeyman who can't get into a Bham team. A midefield blessed with talent and they are interested in Cotterill. 😂

We've already got a David Cotterill, he's called Freddie Sears. And he's useless.

Technically a very good player to be honest. Delivery is excellent but lacks real pace to be a top player.
Wouldn't be adverse to him signing, is better than Grant Ward, who btw is a league 1 player at best.

doesn't say much for younger defenders around the country. Not sure if we have scouts anymore, he says scratching his head!

Just need to check my facts with Mr Milne, but I'm fairly sure he had a shot go narrowly wide against us in a reserve game a couple of years back.

No worthless link or signing is complete without our esteemed MD bigging it up with some prize nonsense - don't let us down Ian!

Better than Sears so would be a yes in my book. Not that I rate Cotterill...but he'd undoubtedly be an improvement on Sears.

With Town near the top of the table for goals scored and near the bottom of the table for goals conceded, why should we be interested in any 'links' other than to a quality defender?

30 year old journeyman looking for a job - no thanks

Just watched Ethan Ampadu play extremely well as Chelsea U21s beat Portsmouth 2-1, a full strength Portsmouth line up inc Brett Pitman, Connor Chaplin, etc. Very assured for a 17 year old. I would love him to come in on loan!

blueheartXT has a point, who would want to come here at the present time, say what you want about MM but the FACTS are he has got 2 teams out of this division and in all the time he has been here the transfers/money spent are WELL in the black. If he'd been given as much money as Keane I don't think we would be in this division now. It's not all MMs fault he's got his hands tied by our penny pinching couldn't give a feck about our club owner.
I actually want McCarthy to go(sears is not a bad player he's just been ruined) too many players( you all know who they are) are in a comfort zone at this club as they don't even have to play for their places as long as they are fit, even if they are played out of position. Having said that MM wouldn't want to sell bart/didz and I believe he was told to sell Moore because of the massive profit made in this window it's the FECKIN owner who does, rather ME left than MM

Frees and Loans time begins again. Ipswich Town Poundland FC is open yet again for business.

If you are 30 or over, have a dodgy injury record and have been released by your club, then we may well be the club for you. Don't sign for York City, sign for us!

If York came in for him Tony humes they would probably outbid us

This link only likely to be a lazy journo interviewing his keyboard. Need 2 competent and forward playing midfielders and at least one left sided cb.

Poor old Freddie.
Getting a slightly unfair press on here.
He was a decent player before his confidence was knocked.

Wake me up when we sign somebody worth taking note of....Cotterill is 30 and anyway far more important to start signing a central defender.

I actually think he's been a fairly decent player in his career. Don't forget Birmingham were lumping money on a whole new squad this season so had to get rid of players. Just a pretty uninspiring link because he's 30 and out of contract. Change is just badly needed. Can't even imagine what the crowds will be next season if Mick stays. The best thing to do if we're not going to sack him is tell the fans he's going at the end of the season. I'm sure if we knew Mick was going in the summer then we'd all get behind him until May.

If we were signing a free agent why hasn't it happened. The need for new players is obvious. The players are free. What's stopping a deal?? Why wait for transfer deadline to pick up a loan? Do it now for god's sake. We need reinforcements now. What have you got to say about it MM? or is your head already elsewhere?

MM heads never been in it at our club hence his references to Wolves and Sunderland near enough every interview. He's here for himself only.
