Forest Green Windfall From Moore Move
Thursday, 11th Jan 2018 08:46

Forest Green Rovers are reported to have received a significant windfall following their former striker Kieffer Moore’s move from the Blues to Barnsley for a fee of £750,000 earlier this week.

Town signed the 25-year-old from the then-Vanarama National League side last January for £20,000 and according to the Stroud News & Journal a sell-on clause included in that deal has yielded Rovers a near six-figure sum.

Asked to comment on the pay-out, a spokesman for the League Two side said: "Contractual matters remain confidential."

Moore signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with the Tykes on Monday with his wages close to £10,000 a week, almost certainly more than three times what he was earning at Town.

The 6ft 5in tall Torquay-born frontman, who enjoyed a hugely successful loan spell at League One Rotherham during the first half of the season when he scored 13 times, says he decided to move to Oakwell as soon as he heard of their interest.

"When I look around, the whole feel of the place, it's a proper club,” he told the official Barnsley website.

“I feel at home here, I like it up north. I know I'm a southerner but I do enjoy it up here and this is a great club for me to play for.

"As soon as I knew Barnsley were in for me I pretty much made my mind up about the move straight away.

"There'd been other interest that I knew about, but it hadn't fazed me, I've been keeping my head down and taking it all day by day.

"Over the last two or three years I've been here, there and everywhere really. I'm 25 now and I feel it's time I stayed around at one club for a real period of time, with one fanbase. So hopefully that's where I'm at."

Meanwhile, Derby County defender Jason Shackell reportedly is a potential Town target during this transfer window.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the Blues moving for the 34-year-old centre-half, who played for Mick McCarthy at Wolves and is currently out of favour at Pride Park having made only two Carabao Cup appearances this season, is a possibility.

However, Brighton's Connor Goldson is top of McCarthy's list of central defensive recruits and seems likely to join the Blues once the Seagulls have added another centre-half to their ranks. That switch appears likely to trigger Tommy Smith's switch to the Colorado Rapids.

As TWTD reported at the time, Shackell was considered as a potential replacement for Goldson in August when the 25-year-old's proposed loan switch broke down on deadline day as a result of a Brighton move for another defender, Club Brugge's Stefano Denswil, collapsing but the Blues are understood to have had concerns regarding the one-time Norwich man's fitness.

All we need is a billionaire owner. Can someone write to them?

All his clichés about "a proper club" read to me like digs at Rotherham. Rotherham fans must be furious with him for this move.
