Town Linked With Boro Midfielder Guedioura
Sunday, 14th Jan 2018 10:40

Middlesbrough midfielder Adlene Guedioura is reportedly set to depart the Riverside Stadium and be reunited with his former Wolves boss Mick McCarthy at Town.

According to the Sunday People, Boro manager Tony Pulis will allow the 32-year-old to move on during this transfer window, setting up the reunion with McCarthy, the man who brought the Algerian international into English football during his time at Molineux.

Guedioura is unwanted by the Teessiders having made only one start since joining them a year ago, in the 3-2 New Year’s Day win at Preston, in addition to five sub appearances, with a hamstring injury having hampered him for much of his time in the North-East.

He played the full 90 minutes for Boro's U23s in this afternoon's 3-3 draw with Blackburn.

The France-born central midfielder played youth football with Racing Paris before moving on to Sedan, Noisy-le-Sec, L’Entente SSG and Créteil before spells with Belgian clubs Kortrijk and Charleroi.

McCarthy brought him to then-Premier League Wolves in January 2010 initially on loan before making the move a permanent switch for a reported £2 million.

After making 17 starts and 22 sub appearances at Molineux, scoring three times, he moved on to Nottingham Forest, again initially on loan, in January 2012.

Spells at Crystal Palace and Watford followed prior to his switch to Boro in January of last year for a reported £3.5 million, the Teessiders having beaten Hull City to his signature. He signed a contract until 2019.

Central midfield is the area Blues boss McCarthy is looking to strengthen during the transfer window with Town having a number of players sidelined with injuries, three of them - Andre Dozzell, Emyr Huws and Teddy Bishop - for the rest of the season.

A move for a midfielder he knows well as cover for the remainder of the season would be little surprise.

Speaking when signing Guedioura in 2010, McCarthy said: "Adlene is an all-round midfield player who is very mobile.

"Technically he is very good and has the physical characteristics to be able to cope with the Premier League.”

Elsewhere, Sunderland are reported to have joined the Blues, Reading and QPR in showing interest in Barnsley striker Tom Bradshaw.

Town were said to be among the clubs eyeing the 25-year-old earlier in the week, although signing another striker is currently not a priority.

Meanwhile, Suffolk Constabulary have confirmed Leeds fans threw bottles, broken chairs and a "flashbang" during the Blues’ 1-0 victory over the Whites yesterday afternoon.

Reports of a coin being thrown are also being investigated, however, no arrests were made and there were no clashes between the two sets of fans.

The “flashbang” and broken chairs were thrown after Eunan O’Kane’s red card for head-butting Jonas Knudsen, while the bottles followed Bersant Celina’s winning goal, according to a police spokesman.

“Bottles were thrown by Leeds fans towards the Sir Bobby Robson Stand,” he said. “The Leeds fans also broke chairs and threw them.”

Town gave the Whites an additional 1,000 or so tickets for Saturday's match - they brought a total of 3,537 fans - and they were given the majority of the seats in the upper tier of the Cobbold Stand with a number of Blues season ticket holders having to be relocated.

The Suffolk Constabulary spokesman added: “It looks like they misbehaved somewhat."

Webster is ok but he's getting that bit if game where he likes hoofing it? So are u a Mick stayer then? Sorry but I thought Mings was s donkey and terrible as he cost us many goals? Lawrence was never ours anyway? Spence is ok but not fantastic? You see it's about opinions but we all want the best for Town and I am sorry but that will not happen with Mick in charge?

Only Town would sign an injured player to cover for injured players.

Looks a good temporary option. Big Mick knows his ex-players. Could be the one to get us back into the top six. COYB

I didn't say those players were fantastic just that IMO they have/had improved whilst at the club
I believe it's inevitable Mick will walk at the end of the season regardless of what any of us says - My concern is whether the club have the ability to find a good replacement

I for one would like a manager with a bit of drive and ambition which we have been lacking. Also a manger who likes his team to play football and not hoof ball? Also drop players if they aren't performing instead of them knowing how ever bad they are the not getting dropped? But just like you I want the club and Mr Evans prove to all of us he wants the best for for the club and chose wisely!!

The joke is on the dirty Leeds fans.

Doesn't sound very inspiring (i.e. age and dodgy hamstrings) although one thing that certainly wouldn't put me off is if Tony Pulis wanted him out. I've got friends at Stoke and West Brom and they all said to me they'd rather be relegated than go another season or 2 in the Prem with the boring brand of football TP (Totally Pointless) was continually serving up.
It's not just the fans who can't handle Tony Pulis, even some of the players says he bores them to tears in training, see here:

A black mark from Tony Pulis is possibly a plus point I reckon lol!
Still probably wouldn't take the punt but part of me thinks if Tony says sell we should say buy!

I just want McCarthy gone and a younger forward thinking manager to come in much like 1969 when Bobby Robson arrived in town. I'm not suggesting we would go on to win FA Cups and European competitions but the football would surely be more entertaining.

Hasn't got the best scoring record for a midfielder (11 goals in the last 10 years), and has a poor hamstring. BUT is fully fit right now and is a decent age. We are desperate, sign him up ASAP.

ex-Wolves, 32 years old, played already for MM. Sounds like a banker to me on a short-term deal. Mohammed Meftah, his Algerian team mate is looking for a year in the uk and might be worth a punt as a back up player to Spence at RB. Free signing, 32, played in Africa Cup of nations and has dual nationality.

brazil1982, because the boys in blue ,nooooooooo not OUR boys in blue ,the ones with flashing blue lights, said that they ony seemed to have misbehaved somewhat. ! I always thought smashing up other peoples property was criminal damage , obviously not.And I would have thought that throwing other peoples property which you have broken , at other people would have amounted to some law however ancient being broken, obviously I was wrong about that too. Mmmmmmmm what do we actually pay them for.? was it such a good game they were looking the wrong way ?

To be fair, I would criticise a 32 year old signing anyway else on the pitch
But at CM we are desperately short and then the guy would leave at the end iof the season to allow our young injured CMs Bishop, Dozzel Nydam, adeyemi a chance to play next season
