Bristol City Eyeing Webster Move Claim
Sunday, 28th Jan 2018 10:08

Bristol City are reportedly keen on a £4 million move for Blues central defender Adam Webster before the transfer window closes on Wednesday as cover for the much-coveted Aden Flint.

According to The Sun, Robins boss Lee Johnson wants Webster, 23, as his replacement for 28-year-old Flint, who is interesting West Brom, Brighton and a number of other Premier League clubs.

City are said to have rebuffed a £6 million offer from Derby County but are claimed to be more prepared to sell if a top flight club firms up their interest and offers their £10 million asking price.

Webster, who was back on the Town bench yesterday having recovered from an achilles injury, is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2019 with the club having an option for a further season.

Town are unlikely to consider offers for the former Pompey man before Wednesday’s deadline as the former England U18 and U19 international, who has been in and out of the Blues side due to a succession of injuries since signing in the summer of 2016, is viewed as someone whose value is likely to increase substantially as he gains more Championship experience.

The Blues have already seen one of their senior centre-halves, Tommy Smith, depart for the Colorado Rapids during this window with Cameron Carter-Vickers having replaced the New Zealand international on loan from Tottenham.

If this happens, i will seriously doubt ME's commitment to the club. You all harp on about finding a new manager, i think it will be time to find a new owner. I'll keep my eyes open for a rich Russian........................

Even if he is sold we would never see that money reinvested

That amazes me as he has hardly played this season. I can't see ME turning that sort of money down.

At this rate, with the players who are out of contract in the summer and I am not convinced Bart will stay (ME can now command more money from him) we will be down to bare bones during the summer.

A new manager could have different ideas about which players he wants but would ME spend any of the money we might make?

he'll fancy this as well. Webster is a proper player with huge potential and is being shunted by Mick's hatred of ball playing defenders. When he arrived here he was raw, making the odd mistake here and there, but was exciting making runs out of defence and opening teams up. Where's that been this season? He looks a shell of his former self when he's not injured and a move like this would reignite his career.

We've got a real talent on our hands here and with the right manager that doesn't drill all the class and talent out of him he's definitely worth keeping.

if we hadn't just offloaded tommy, i could see this one happening, surely evans wouldn't be so daft as to leave us with just chambers for the rest of the season? (*crosses fingers*)

The loan is just a short term solution as a replacement for Smith. Off loading another permanent player and ‘replacing' with more loans would be wreckless in my opinion. Whatever squad will we have come the Summer? Next years rebuilding exercise already looks huge.

No chance of him moving anywhere this season, even if the Sun story has some truth to it. He is under contract to us after all.

Why is everybody so negative, we have a stable owner, who is sensible with money, does no one remember the trauma of receivership. Look at some of the chairman around from hull Cardiff and Newcastle is that what you want. We have good players, we have a manager who can pick them out of the lower leagues. What do you want, you want it all now or you will throw your rattle out of the Pram . Grow up you negative fans, be satisfied with what we have got, nothing is easy!

Bluebell... Bart just signed new deal so cant see him leaving in all honesty.

No player should be bought or sold until new manager is in place!

Can't see this happening. Well hope not anyway. Big statement if we do sell to Bristol City.

Sell him, get a loan player in and don't reinvest the money. Probably the mind set of ME and MM.

We've already let Berra leave for free and Smith go for an 'undisclosed fee' I take to mean virtually nothing, with no permanent replacement coming in for those two. That leaves us with Chambers and Webster and the only senior centre backs at the club!

Webster looks to have the ability to become a top central defender and I like the way he plays the ball forward intelligently. We need to hold onto our best young players until crazy bids come in from Premier League teams awash to silly money, not sell to Championship rivals for modest fees.

This was in the sun. No truth in it. Would be a massive sideways step and Webster, if he can stay fit will get attention from bigger fish.

Lets not all lose our $#*t over this rumour

Billybaxter, it is essential as football fans to dream bigger to have aspirations for your club, it's counter productive to be lethargic and passive and accept the status quo if it's clearly not working.
Football is not all about business and no one in their right minds should buy a football club as a business model, it's about passion and risking your own money for a club you choose to buy, otherwise what's the point. I'm sick of these Evans and MM apologists saying careful what you wish for all the time. Have some ambition, dream a little.

Would he even pass a medical! Seems to pick up injuries too easily

fransthyssen added 12:09 - Jan 28
Seems to me ME's just interested in balancing the books and not having enough ambition for our club, MM is under instruction to buy or loan cheaply and will continue to do so to keep his job and we'll remain mid/lower table.

It was in the sun they just make up rumours. Can't see Webster being sold unless it's ridiculous money like the 10 million Bristol want!

BillyBaxterwasbest added 12:29 - Jan 28
Blue boy do not confuse realism for lack of ambition, for a club in a town of Ipswich's size we are batting well above average. Long may we continue to do so! Relax it will come again.

floridaboy, I agree, however most players seem to be continually injured here.
Take Steven Taylor, he was always injured, but a move to Peterborough has seen him ever present. With all our players certainly in Midfield, you would need to ask questions of our training regime (or maybe lack of one)
As for Webster, I cannot see him getting back in the side.
CCV was recalled from Sheff Utd because the did not guarantee him first team football.
It is therefore assumed that we have, so with Chambers also guaranteed 1st team football, I can not see him being selected, unless we change our formation (3 at the back) or Chambers to RB

btw I am still amazed no one has come in for our Premier League Class No.8
...or have they, and he is being rested due to a pending transfer :-)

And the prize for the most pathetic statement of the day goes to...Billybaxterwasbest, for this!

" Grow up you negative fans, be satisfied with what we have got, nothing is easy!"

Sorry i am not satisfied, how is improvement ever going to happen with fans who think that way? The glory years would not exist if we had always thought that way!
