Bristol City Eyeing Webster Move Claim
Sunday, 28th Jan 2018 10:08

Bristol City are reportedly keen on a £4 million move for Blues central defender Adam Webster before the transfer window closes on Wednesday as cover for the much-coveted Aden Flint.

According to The Sun, Robins boss Lee Johnson wants Webster, 23, as his replacement for 28-year-old Flint, who is interesting West Brom, Brighton and a number of other Premier League clubs.

City are said to have rebuffed a £6 million offer from Derby County but are claimed to be more prepared to sell if a top flight club firms up their interest and offers their £10 million asking price.

Webster, who was back on the Town bench yesterday having recovered from an achilles injury, is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2019 with the club having an option for a further season.

Town are unlikely to consider offers for the former Pompey man before Wednesday’s deadline as the former England U18 and U19 international, who has been in and out of the Blues side due to a succession of injuries since signing in the summer of 2016, is viewed as someone whose value is likely to increase substantially as he gains more Championship experience.

The Blues have already seen one of their senior centre-halves, Tommy Smith, depart for the Colorado Rapids during this window with Cameron Carter-Vickers having replaced the New Zealand international on loan from Tottenham.

BillyBaxterwasbest what a load of dribble you come out with!! Evans and Mick are ruining our club!! And yet you can't see it?? Yet most people on here can? I've followed Town since the 70s and we are terrible now simple !!!! Mick has had his chances so you enjoy hoof ball and negative tactics?? You are one of the few SAD believers and followers of the awful set up of Ipswich Town F.C. by the way we all have opinions and I really don't agree with yours!!!

Billybaxter you say we are a small town battling above our average so we all should be happy with what is produced at portman rd a defensive manager who shows nothing but contempt to the fans a owner who don't give a s--t about itfc yes we are a small town but so are Bournemouth Watford Brighton all in the premiership because they have a owner and managers who want to be there I would be happy if I can watch a game with a bit of attacking football whether it's in the championship or premiership

All of our major successes have come from stability, Ramsey, Robson and Burley. Be positive and good things will come from it, be negative and they won't.

BillyBaxterwasbest Totally disagree with your comments although you are entitled to your opinion and I totally respect that, it's what makes football the best sport in the world!

1. We don't have good players, we have a couple of extremely average players.
2. We don't have a good manager, we have a manager that is happy not to loose in every game and yes he is doing well with no money but even with money he would still play hoofball because he is tactically totally inept. He is also an owner extremely arrogant and rude individual who has no relationship with the fans and doesn't want a relationship with the fans. It's always the MM show and that's how he likes it. I think these reporters/ interviewers need to man up and start giving the sarcasm back to him, who cares if he then refuses to do an interview again, he's boring to listen to anyway.
3. The owner needs to now speak out and reveal himself and what he is all about and tell everyone what he wants personally out of being owner of this club. This club is going backwards and has no relationship with its fans anymore. I've had a season ticket for 20 years + and never have I felt so distant from ipswich town Fc. It will be interesting to see what they do with the season ticket prices next season it really will. We will be lucky to get 70% of current holders renew. I don't know what else to really say about this once great football club. I accepted a long time ago that we are no longer a big club (taking the history away) we are a below average team but we need as fans some hope. I for one want a new owner, it want be easy to sell I admit but we need someone with ambition and I also believe we need a new young manager with his new ideas but someone who wants to get a pass and movement mentality into the team. I watched the u see 23 loose against sheffiled Utd at Portman road the other day but boy do they play some nice one touch football.

Webster is the best centre back in this league we need to keep him. He has had the same I just met I believe but just coz he gets injured once/twice don't mean he needs to retire haha

You forgot Watford stowtractorboy I think Ipswich population was 133,000 in 2011 it might have gone up a bit since then and no we are not pushing above our weight whether we have 133,000 or 500,000 no club is to small to be a top side with decent football 2 weeks ago we was 4 points of the play offs and what do we do a loan player and a freebie if Evans wanted us to get to play offs or the premiership he would have given the dinosaur money to spend on quality players Evans uses this club to benefit his other interests

Although we really shouldnt be selling our better players, maybe its not a terrible idea to get some of the injury prone players off the books. (if we actually buy a replacement, which is unlikely).

Let's hope there's nothing in this. With McCarthy on his way, and Brizzle on the up, he could be tempted by a move. £3 million+ offer and I think he may well be gone. Thankfully, despite all there spare cash, I can't see them bidding that much.

If Marcus Evans sells Webster, the fans must take the fight to the owner.
Either sell up or invest. Ignore MM he isn't the biggest problem at Portman Road. ME is. Boycott the rest of the season until we get some concrete assurances of some investment.

....... he's a player who has a bit of 'want to go forward' about him - although he signed him, McCarthy simply does not want that, hence Webster becomes yet another player who is expected to change his game and be as dull, boring, and stoic, as the Manager himself.

Personally I think he thought of a 'niggle' injury would be a better temptation than having to be railroaded into being someone you would rather not be. Maybe, just maybe - all you who question his injury record.

You people just don't see it do you, if there is only half a chance this story is true Evans PLC will be rubbing their hands with glee. They are not, and never have been interested in I T F C as a FOOTBALL club and 4 million for Webster is 2 thirds the way to the 6 million Evans PLC is SUPPOSED to put into the club every year

Nothing would surprise me with our owner or manager!
I honestly can't see anything coming at our club anymore. Loans, scraps from non league clubs. There are not many Jamie Vardy's and even if we found one he would be sold before you could say, he was good!
Sorry but I have become very cynical since our current owner and MM have been in charge.
