Carayol Signing Confirmed
Wednesday, 31st Jan 2018 20:55

Town have confirmed the signing of winger Mustapha Carayol on a deal to the end of the season. TWTD was first to break the news that the 29-year-old was set to leave Forest to join the Blues on a free transfer earlier this afternoon.

Carayol’s Forest contract, which was up at the end of the season, was cancelled by mutual consent this afternoon and he joins the Blues in much the same way as Stephen Gleeson earlier in the month, Town taking on the remaining months of his City Ground deal.

“The gaffer showed interest in me before I signed for Forest so as soon as I knew Ipswich were keen on me it was an easy decision,” Carayol, who will wear the number 32 shirt, told iFollow Ipswich.

“I know a lot about Ipswich. I have played against the team a few times and know a lot of the players here. I saw Cole Skuse in Dubai a couple of years ago and he was trying to convince me to sign!

“I spoke to Frank Nouble a few hours back and he said ‘Just go there. You’ll enjoy it’. Frank is a good friend of mine so I couldn’t have got any better advice really.

“Forest was probably the most frustrating time of my career so I’ve come here to play games and I’ll work as hard as I can. I want to make a big impact here and help the team.

“I’m here until the end of the season. That is my focus for now but hopefully I can impress the gaffer and the fans and I can show the gaffer I’m worth keeping beyond the summer.”

Carayol, the first Gambia international to represent the Blues, was a youth player with Swindon and Macclesfield before breaking into senior football with the MK Dons.

He spent time on loan with Crawley before joining Torquay on a permanent basis prior to a loan stint with Kettering.

Lincoln was his next port of call before he moved on to Bristol Rovers where he really made his name, securing a move to Middlesbrough in the summer of 2012.

He scored his first league goal on his Championship debut for the Teessiders in their 2-0 victory over the Blues at the Riverside in August 2012.

Having had spells out on loan at Brighton, Huddersfield and Leeds, the 5ft 11in tall pacy wideman joined Forest after leaving Boro - then managed by current Tricky Trees boss Aitor Karanka - by mutual consent in August 2016, signing a two-year deal.

While at the City Ground, Carayol made only 17 starts and 21 sub appearances, scoring three goals.

However, he remained in their first team squad and started Saturday's 2-1 FA Cup defeat at Hull before being replaced at half-time.

Carayol’s signing marks the last of Town’s January business with deadline day seeing no high profile exits.

While there was some interest in David McGoldrick from a Championship club understood to be Bolton Wanderers, who were briefly odds-on to sign him with one bookie this evening, the striker will remain at Portman Road for the final months of his contract.

Reports of renewed Crystal Palace interest in Bartosz Bialkowski were purely speculative.

runningout I am of the same opinion as yours. I too seem to be negative at the moment because I cannot see anything but backward steps for our club.
Therefore I had better shut up too 😀

Never really heard of him seems a bit of journey man but you never know he may settle and feel at home in Suffolk!! Good luck to him.

I see that signing this winger, Carayol, paves the way for the release of the notorious TWTD whinger, Bluebore.

In a press release issued this morning, ITFC state "Bluebore's reputation on the whinge proceeds him. He has served the club increasingly poorly over the years. His relentless persistance of all things negative has never been in question. He has long been regarded, both within the club and the wider community, as a tiresome and inarticulate servant. There will be some that miss his love of multiple full stops and his passing of vitriol across the site via as many posts as he can muster. Others will be more grateful that this ageing troll has been put out to pasture. We wish him well in the future and completely understand his desire to move to Norfolk's capital city, as it has been on the cards for a long while".

Really hope he does well and welcome to the club. Surely the club could have done a better photo shoot? He looks totally shocked and depressed.

He's had some pretty serious injuries in the past so let's hope and cross-fingers that he stays injury free while with us.

I recall paper talk linking him with us when he was at Bristol Rovers. Should have got him then. Too little too late now I'm afraid.

I am not surprised by his expression - Look at the size of that contract file he has had to read through!

13 clubs none of them big clubs. Has never settled or set the world on fire anywhere by the sounds of it. Mean while McCarthy is sending our own players out on loan when they should be playing for ITFC.
I swear I'll never understand the mans logic.
Roll on the end of the season

That's not a contract. There is a sheet of paper for every club he has played for in that folder...

The first volume is under the leg of that wobbly table he's leaning on...

So no money for McG then. That means he walks out of the door for nothing at the end of the season.

Welcome Muzza. Has blistering pace which is something we lack in our squad. Does strike me as being a squad filler as cannot see Mick favouring him instead of Sears or Celina

This club really is in limbo. Just drifting around in the doldrums. Come on ME make some decisive moves for all our sakes. MM won't go without a payoff and won't even confirm if he is going. Signings are short term and absolutely nothing to look forward to next season because none of us have a clue what's going on at the club. Please tell us that some sort of plan is in the pipeline or you may find even more fans start finding other things to do on a Saturday.

Forest fans I've spoken to don't rate him and he was one of the 7 that their new manager has got out. I'm hoping his attitude will change to impress his future boss whoever and where ever that might be.
Would still prefer Rowe but what do I know!
