Reading, Sheffield Wednesday and West Brom Linked With Blues Boss
Monday, 26th Feb 2018 16:49

Reading are reportedly eyeing Blues boss Mick McCarthy as a potential successor to Jaap Stam should the Dutchman lose his job at the Madejski Stadium, while Sheffield Wednesday and West Brom are also claimed to be potential suitors for the Town manager, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

According to a rather speculative piece in the Daily Mail, the Royals, currently 18th in the Championship, are long-time admirers of McCarthy along with a number of other clubs and the 59-year-old would be in their thoughts if they were to sack Stam.

In addition to Reading, the Owls are said to be monitoring developments, while West Brom could also view him as a potential successor to Alan Pardew if they are relegated, despite Blues’ boss’s history with their rivals Wolves.

Although McCarthy's terms with the Blues are up in the summer, owner Evans has an option to keep him for two more years.

Speaking on Friday, McCarthy said he believes it’s more likely that Evans will ask him to stay on at Portman Road than let him depart after five and a half years in charge, despite the majority of fans calling for a change.

He added that he expected to talk to Evans about his future "over the next three or four weeks".

Funny how in the 5 years he's been here no one has ever come knocking. Can't remember a single story with any credence whatsoever of him being wanted by any other club! Now his contract's about to run out and suddenly he's wanted by the footballing world?!?! I don't think many of us are that gullible im afraid Daily Mail.

All the talk of player budgets, Evans and MM is to forget that Ipswich, on the few occasions they have had it, NEVER spent big money well. In the last 10-15 years Finidi George, Sereni, Leadboots are all good examples, conversely with the exception of the fire sale under the CVA when we got picked clean for nothing we have done very well out of selling players for top prices who went on to do f**k all (Cresswell and Jon Walters excepted)

Why is he a "moron"? So you don't like his brand of football, and neither do I most of the time but he gets wins at Derby & Preston (as well as disappointing defeats too) and has achieved relative success this season considering no Huws, Dozzell or Bishop.

I doubt there's any credence in the Daily Mail article but it's unlikely MM will be unemployed for long if ME does let him go.

Although speculative, it's encouraging that three clubs are interested, improves the odds of him going.

I like the 6,000 will not be going to PR next season if MM is still in charge. He is a bully that has abused the fans one time too many. His football is boring, and I work too hard to spend my Saturdays in the company of this man and his dull football. I don't care anymore that he doesn't have the money, and I'm sick to death of the weak "Be careful of what you wish for" doormats who will take any 5h1t that's put in front of them.

MM must go, and if he is lucky enough to con one of these clubs in to taking him then good luck to him..... and them.

ME bring some pride back in to this club, you are killing it with a death of a thousand cuts.

rodthegasman and popeye are absolutely spot on.
Glad to see I'm not the only person on here with his head screwed on the right way.
If MM leaves and the purse strings aren't loosened then we'll be struggling to stave off relegation.

MM is highly regarded
I wonder how close to the playoffs we would've be if our midfield hadn't been wiped out with injury
I do believe he should have worked harder to get the fans on side, ultimately that will be his downfall

"Be careful what you wish for...." "Give MM money"

Bottom line is other clubs would have got rid of MM a long time ago for a variety of reasons. Ipswich Town give their managers every opportunity to succeed and MM has had that opportunity. He has consistently shown that his team selection beggars belief with his "proper blokes" defying common sense, boring defensive (hoof) football and playing others out of position. To give him a bigger budget would be a total waste of money. If we still have him here next season, we will remain a mid-table at best Championship team.

If other teams want him, then so be it. Interesting though that despite all the hype and obvious other attachments, Barnsley weren't interested in him - that should tell people something at the very least!!!!

Hope there is no truth in this as would love Mick to stay.
With a bit of money and some luck with injuries we are more than capable.

If he does go though I can't wait to see these 6k ex season ticket holders suddenly return. As if, we all know they'll find some other excuse not to support their team.

Swn98 - No one wants to get relegated, but surely you DO NOT want to keep watching this dull tripe. Better to die trying than to sit safe playing 'Let's not lose, senseless dull, dull football. Let's be brave and try something exciting.... you never know you just might like it.

I very much doubt we will make the play-offs any time soon, but at least get someone who will try to entertain us. There are plenty of young, even some not so young intelligent managers / coaches out there.

The acceptance, by so many, of such rubbish astounds me. Grow some balls and dare to dream.

Careful what you wish for! i have a couple of other quotes," a ship is safe in the harbour, but that is not what they were built for!" or a couple by William Faulkner “Given the choice between the experience of pain and nothing, I would choose pain.” “You cannot swim for new horizons until you have courage to lose sight of the shore.”

MM just go!

News flash to all MM lovers, he wouldn't be here in the first place, if he's as great as you lot make him out to be...but don't worry, he runs this football club anyway so he'll do want he wants, as theres less balls at Portman rd than a eunuchs convention.
