McCarthy: Not Much I Can Do to Affect Bart Signing Contract
Monday, 12th Mar 2018 14:38

Blues boss Mick McCarthy says he can do nothing to affect whether keeper Bartosz Bialkowski signs the contract which he agreed with the club towards the end of the January transfer window.

Town announced that the new terms, which run until the summer of 2020 with an option for a further season, had been agreed at a time when Crystal Palace were showing strong interest but it remains unsigned.

Speaking at the end of last month, Bialkowski said the deal would be formalised but that there were one or two aspects still to be confirmed.

“I haven’t signed the new contract yet because there are still a couple of things to sort out,” he said. “Hopefully, it will be done soon.

“I’ve still got the option for next year anyway but as I’ve said so many times before, I love this place and I love the club. The two parties want to sign the contract and it will be done.”

Asked at lunchtime whether he has any concerns that the 30-year-old, who was called into the Polish national squad for the first time on Friday, is still to put pen to paper, McCarthy said: “No, there’s not a lot I can do to affect that. He knows my feelings, that I want him to stay, he’s fully well aware of it.

“He’s the master of his own destiny. But look, he’s here for another year whatever happens because there’s an option for another season.

“Getting in the international squad will help him and maybe not help the club in negotiations, I don’t know.”

Got a feeling Bart will be on his way in the summer. Anyone else feel the same or just me?

Well why don't you leave Mick just in case you can?

If everyone wants it to happen & the contract itself has been agreed, with only minor (apparently) matters outstanding, it should have been signed by now ....unless something said in previous statements is not entirely factual. Players have moved on before, in situations with far greater certainty from the club's perspective.
This carry on is an unnecessary recipe for disaster.

Bart's like a season ticket holder waiting to see if McCarthy goes before renewing.

People on here may not appreciate MM, but it's indisputable that the players have the utmost respect him.
Like it or not, he's more likely to leave if MM goes.

The whole situation seems very bizarre.

Maybe just maybe he's waiting to see if we get a manager who can take the club forward which just ain't gonna happen with (i'm a great manager me!!) the current over paid one.

I doubt i'd sign a new contract if I though my boss was potentially leaving for another company....unless I knew who the replacement was and happy with it.

Mick will strip this club of all the decent players in no time should he leave.

Gcon, I fully respect your opinion and am not trying to go against you but the players will have McCarthy's respect because it is McCarthy who picks them to play week in week out so they will never speak out against him.
Those that dare to question him are thrown out of the club.

Don't talk to me about this don't talk to me about that. The man has so few qualities to admire that his still being here beggars belief.

I know the fans don't like McCarthy but players and other managers speak highly of McCarthy.

How many times have we heard a player say they would come to town on loan or permanently because of McCarthy or what he has said to them.

So people saying Bart will only sign if McCarthy goes is possibly not true.
Just got in to the Poland team and McCarthy still here he will be the first name on the team sheet....would you tie yourself to a club for 3 years if the club had a new manager who might not play you........
I would be surprised if a new manager did not play Bart.......but I remember Keane.

Bluetone

I do agree with you but have to agree with Mick too......as ever week the press ask him the same questions....he won't say it the same with players being linked
