Rhodes Loan Speculation Resurfaces
Sunday, 18th Mar 2018 10:58

Former Blues striker Jordan Rhodes will be made available for loan by Sheffield Wednesday in the summer with the Blues and Bolton set to be among those interested in recruiting him, it’s claimed this morning.

According to a somewhat speculative piece in The Sun on Sunday, Wednesday will be willing to loan out the 28-year-old ahead of 2018/19 requiring the loaning club to cover only a small proportion of his wages with Town and the Trotters said to be among those likely to be interested.

In the Blues’ case that’s largely due to links late in the January window which manager Mick McCarthy subsequently dismissed on a number of occasions.

Rhodes, who came through the Town academy but was controversially sold to Huddersfield by former boss Roy Keane before he had made a first-team start for the Blues, has failed to repeat his goalscoring form during his time with the Terriers and Blackburn while with the Owls, who he joined from Middlesbrough in January 2017 initially on loan before a £10 million permanent switch that summer.

While at Hillsborough, the Scotland international, who netted once for Town in 10 senior sub appearances prior to his 2009 move to Huddersfield, has scored only nine times in 31 starts and 21 games from the bench for Wednesday.

Given the current uncertainty regarding the future of boss McCarthy, any speculation regarding Town’s summer targets should currently be taken with a pinch of salt.

OldClactonBlue - article states 'first team starts' not 'first team appearances'. He played ten games from the bench and scored one.

Make of this what you will.....,

Last week the mate I go to PR with said a contact of his who is friends with an employee at our Academy, was speaking to his mate who works at Stoke Academy. This contact had seen the list of “ available players from all the Clubs, and this list will shown done deals. Rhodes name was in the list as a fine deal with Town, at knock down price ..... the wages ( which I'm sure wouldn't be mentioned) would be vastly reduced.

Don't short the messenger!

Btw I would not be in favour of him returning.

We will defo take him. Can't get in a side struggling by at the bottom of the table. He will make a massive difference to us, just like gleeson.

Boycott the millwall game.

Speculation indeed. The more important decision remains about who will be our manager next season.
That needs sorting before any player additions or losses are made.
I do believe Rhodes could be a good signing though as to be fair to him his Sheff Weds record apart he has been prolific in the Championship. He was never given a chance by us though.

You can sign the best striker in the world but if they've gotta feed off long balls all game they probably won't score that many. Our style of play needs to change before making more signings.

Are problem is and has been all season are players which was brought in too give are forwards the ball have been injured most of the season. As for Rhodes I think he has some unfinished business here and it could benefit both sides.I am not a MM supporter but I do like the type off loans he brings too the club. We all want the best for town and given the players available I hope people get behind the team so if we do bring on a young player he remembers the game for the right reasons.

I have it on good authority from the 2nd cousin of my local postmaster that his friend who works in Felixstowe said he saw a man walking at dog whilst stopping for a cigarette on the a14 junction 54 who is the next door neighbour to one of the Town match stewards that Marcus Evans is a plonker and wouldn't spend £3 on a bottle of lidl wine let alone spend thousands on Rhodes.

If it happened and God forbid MM was still here, at least they won't have to spend too much time coaching goal scoring out of him.

No point. We need to look to the future and remember the past.

Let's sort the managers job out first . Get rid of mm , just seen Wigan on tv and love how they tried to play passing football , get Paul cook here now and see what players he wants for next season

I would only try and get him if we unloaded both Sears and McGoldrick.

As Steve ITFC Sweden said in a earlier post, all we currently need is a big target man,who can hold the ball up;and a forward thinking midfield player who is prepared to cross the half way line often, and not be happy to tip tap the ball sideways and backwards in his own half in front of the opposing team which gains nothing.

Oh, also change the Manager, and if possible our invisible owner to sell up,or at least lower his holding, preferably below 50% ;as clearly the novelty of owning a football club has worn off.

Mick would only want to sign him if he's injured though.

To be quite honest he's not really set the world on fire since he let.Its a shame as he had all the credentials to become a top class striker.
I personally don't think he is better than what we already have at the club.I would like to see us buy and not waste money on any more loans.Just my opinion.🤔

Probably his best days are behind him despite being only 28! However if the terns were right would be a useful signing

There is every chance MM will be manager next season (a disaster in the making) unless a clear message is sent to the board. Boycott Millwall.

I would take him, think he may have unfinished business here. the way and the reason Keane got him out of the club was awful!

He wouldn't come here for the minimum wage which is all Evans PLC will pay, mind you, If McCarthy s still here he would fit well into his team as a left back

Another tosser who just follows the money. Could have been a top player but blew it with a stream of ridiculous transfers and now cannot play with anyone long enough to gain any form.

Didz and Freddy going would free up a good wad towards bringing Rhodes in. Would also leave a spot or two for our youngsters, Morris, Drinan, Folami.
I think with our midfielders (Huws, Dozzel, Bishop and Adeyemi) fit and rearing to go along with Downes back, we have the nucleus of a decent midfield to feed our strikers next season.
I am looking forward to us starting again next season. New manager would add considerable interest but not holding my breath......

Rhodes has peaked , not saying he is spent ,but don't see him as being special now. That and fact that returns rarely work ,I wouldnt be too excited to see him come back .

Here we go its season ticket renewal time and that means propaganda from the club with names we cannot afford being mentioned as possibilities of signing with us, money being made available to the manager blah blah same old s**t 3 or 4 seasons on the trot now! Surely no ones stupid enough to believe the stories that will be coming from the club at this moment in time? Good distraction from how the clubs REALLY being run and how inept the current management team is both at playing level and up top.
And the people who keep on saying about injuries to Dozzell, Nydam, Bishop etc yeah all very good players and IMO should have had a lot more game time in the past but even when fit weren't exactly getting game time these are excuses. The season Williams was on loan and Bish was fit he bemoaned not having them available then when they were they were warming the bench anyway even Williams had a couple of games for Wales in the time he was warming the bench! Both far to attacking for his teams! Please stop being sucked in by all these comments from the management.
