Town Confirm Klug Caretaker-Manager
Wednesday, 11th Apr 2018 08:24

Town have confirmed that academy head of coaching and player development Bryan Klug will take charge of the first team following the departures of Mick McCarthy and Terry Connor after last night’s 1-0 victory over Barnsley.

Klug, who was Jim Magilton’s assistant manager between 2006 and 2008, was previously in caretaker charge following the Northern Irishman’s departure in 2009, although only briefly as Roy Keane was brought in soon afterwards.

Prior to that the 57-year-old assisted Tony Mowbray when he was caretaker-boss after George Burley’s exit in 2002.

It’s understood Geraint Williams, who has been working at the academy in recent months, will assist Klug in his temporary role.

God luck Brian and George.

We all know what an asset Brian is to the Academy, and having seen the younger players who have come in recently, and the under 23's and 18's,I am sure we will see more exciting football.

Must give a mention to Geraint Williams as nobody else has.He was our midfield general many moons ago,in the mould of Skusey, and their goalscoring record was similar as well lol !He also got Col U promoted for their only time in the Championship, and like GB did in the prem,Mr Williams had a very good first season with Colchester.

However I feel the main purpose, as well giving the fans a bit of entertainment, should be to look at the players who are out of contract, and the budding first teamers;so that they can brief the new manager.

So lets cut them some slack over the next 4 games.

Good move...at least it might be a transitional phase for a few games trying to get back into players heads how to play passing football - that make some time, McCarthy set us back there, don't worry about leaving the club in a better state than when he first came here!

For the last 4 games please just let the team you put out play attacking football? It's not too much to ask is it?

Good luck Bryan, hope it goes well. We're safe from relegation so nothing really to lose now. Part of me wants us to use this period to be experimental and have a proper look at more of the younger players, but then another part of me would still very much obviously like us to stay above Norwich. To do both would be a very delicate balancing act, probably not a straight-forward one either.

Good interim choice. Hope he brings some stability to the club and gives some of the youth players a chance.

Good luck Bryan, I hope you get the job permanently. We need a good coach first, manager second. Someone steeped in "The Ipswich Way" is a bonus.
