Klug: Club Stronger When Everyone's Pulling Together Wednesday, 11th Apr 2018 18:58
Caretaker-boss Bryan Klug, who is in charge for the final four games of the season, says Town is a better and stronger club if everyone is pulling in the same direction. The 57-year-old confirmed he isn’t interested in taking on the job on a permanent basis.
“I have been in and around this club since 1977 and I know it’s a fantastic club but it’s a much better place to be and much stronger if everyone is pulling together and the supporters have a massive part to play in that,” Klug, who has been working as the academy’s head of coaching and player development, told iFollow Ipswich.
“That is what I want to see and if the players here can get something out of the next few weeks and the young coaches that I will have with me [Gerard Nash and Chris Hogg] do the same, then I will look at that as a success."
Klug paid tribute to exiting boss Mick McCarthy: “Mick is a top drawer manager, without a doubt. I have worked with just about every manager here since Sir Bobby Robson and I have learnt as much off Mick as anyone.
“I’m not interested in doing the job at all though going forward. I am going to try and enjoy the experience but I’m already losing sleep over it!”
Klug says that while he'll look to give younger players their chance over the next few games, they'll not come into the side en masse.
“We’ve had a few players make debuts this year, Ben Folami, Ben Morris, people like that," he added.
"And I think any time we can get young players on the pitch I’ll be looking to do that, but you’ve also got an obligation to make sure you put your strongest players out on the pitch to start with.”

Regularly playing 8 players whose role is just to defend is what did for McCarthy. That is the main reason thousands stopped attending, with the promise of the decline continuing. That's why he had to go. Most people who lived through the Robson and Burley eras could barely bear to watch. Hopefully now we can return but I do agree that Evans has a lot to answer for and his decision on the replacement is crucial. In the meantime BK is a great choice, should have happened as soon as McCarthy's departure was confirmed.
We're planning for next season, so please don't play the loanees. They won't be here next season. Play the youngsters please. They are the future of the club.
FFS have some people not read the headline! Love him or hate McCarthy has gone he is history, time for the club and fans to unite and look to the future coyb
It is interesting how the comment about the supporters playing there part. Some have read this and think it is showing respect for the supporters others I have spoken to think he meant the boo boys should support the club and not behave as they have this season.
Blimey an interview with an Ipswich manager that didn't involve the following;
Calling the fans a disgrace Calling the fans pathetic Calling the fans numbskulls Calling the fans idiots Telling the fans to F*** Off General crass soundbites to prove what an edgy manager he is
Good luck Bryan. Can't think of a better man to take over the final weeks.
Now is the time to move on from all the animosity and negativity. McCarthy has gone and this is the start of a new era. We need to get behind the players and show our next manager that some of the toxic atmospheres created this season are gone and totally out of the norm for us as a club.
Blueboy. You talk about uniting the club and then start going on about do gooders and happy clappers. You hypocrite! Its so called fans like you that are destroying this club. You should listen to what Klug is saying.
Club Stronger When Everyone's Pulling Together. And when the manager doesn't put himself before the club, the players, the fans, the community and the Town.
All this talk about ME investing in the club, nobody states an estimate of how much. As an illustration apparently Mings was sold for £9m, Lawrence for £5m, Murphy for £3m. Using those as a guide to bring in say 5 top championship players would cost about £30m. It seems to me the only way is to bring through the young players, something Mick was reluctant to do. Cotter looked good on Monday. I take it he hadn't improved dramatically over the weekend so I assume he could have been given his debut weeks earlier. None of the youths let us down at Crystal Palace (premiership team) so several of them could have been given a chance in the last few months. Who dares wins.
