Knudsen: I Don't Like the Way Fans Treated Mick
Friday, 20th Apr 2018 11:57

Defender Jonas Knudsen has issued a staunch defence of former manager Mick McCarthy and says he’s unhappy with the way supporters treated him prior to his recent Portman Road exit.

“Some fans don’t want to hear it but everybody here loved Mick and nobody wanted him to leave,” The Danish international, who admitted earlier in the month that McCarthy’s exit could have some impact on his future, told The Sun.

“I don’t like the way they treated him - if you look at what he had done for the club, they have to be pleased with that.

“But they don’t want to hear that and it wasn’t right the way they did it. If we didn’t have him last year, we could have been in trouble. Maybe they have to be careful what they wish for.”

Knudsen, 25, was signed by McCarthy in the summer of 2015 from hometown club Esbjerg fB.

There are times when it is appropriate to speak out - there are times when it is better to keep your thoughts to yourself for the greater good and allow the foundations to be put in place for a fresh start ........

When in a hole stop digging!
If you are angling for a move to WBA or wherever with marvellous mick, good luck and offski.

Agree with the comments but this can't come from you Knudsen. Technically one of the worst left backs in the league.dont talk the talk before you can walk the walk

Now there's a headline to get the numbskulls knickers in a twist!
Can't be bothered reading the response but I imagine the usual nonsense.

McCarthy brought the fans reaction on himself. The players and staff may have their views but frankly I'm not interested hearing them.
Knudsen and the other McCarthy lovers can do one as far as I'm concerned.

Not sure what Jonas is trying to achieve here, but whatever happened to the old saying “if you ain't got nothing nice to say, don't say it. He'll be on here next week justifying his comments again, just like on another story that's running today. Personally not bothered about this situation, but lots will be. Very much the case of ‘Alienation' or a move to ‘Coventry' Muppet!

Which is worst for the club? McCarthy getting hassle of a 100 fans who watch the games or the 1000s who've stopped going because of him.Players may have wanted him to stay but they can't have enjoyed playing in an empty stadium surely!

Not being funny but, Knudsen is such as basic defender. Can't pass or defend with confidence, two main aspects into being a decent fullback. Whoever comes in won't care if he stays or if he goes.

@brazilblue Our academy deliver League One quality players at best. Times of Wright, Dyer, Bramble and Bent are long gone. Current youngsters are overrated here. I think not even one of them will become a future international / Premier League player. Klug is responsible for massive failure.

More to the point Jonas - look what he did for the Supporters (you know, the people who pay to watch you every week) - 6k plus of whom decided they had had enough. Whilst you continued, along with others (inc MM himself), to take your fat pay cheques every week / month.

Get your nose down - concentrate on your game.

Jonas you need to understand that people paying out hard earned money to watch poor entertainment for a few years can lead to angry customers especially when the manager tells you to f*** off! He was his own worst enemy.

Why is Knudsen doubling down on his earlier comments? Yes, I'm sure McCarthy was a pleasure to work with. He picked you every week. The facts don't lie that the fans were bored of his football. McCarthy clearly didn't lose the dressing room. He lost the fans and that's game over for any manager. The club has lost 6-7k+ on the gate every home game and that's disastrous.

The fans ARE the club and will be here longer than any player or manager. Players are paid handsomely to represent the club. We pay our hard-earned to watch. Always remember that.

@eMem

Describing Bryan Klug as "dead wood" is probably the single most ridiculous thing I've read on here. "Dead wood" doesn't walk straight into a job at Tottenham's academy.

Sorry I don't think the players realise how the fans were disappointed in how the manager was getting them to play terrible football? There again the favourites of mick will always defend him? Jonas has been nothing special but there again a lot of you wear tinted glasses anyway! Mick was ruining the football associated with Ipswich football club. Long ball football that chambers and co liked playing are gone. Let's see who stays that can actually play passing football? But oops I do forget that sometimes on here people don't like personal opinions? What ever we all want what's best for Ipswich and getting rid of Mick was best thing in a while!! Onwards and upwards for Town now!!

We the fans have had every right to vent our feelings regards the last 18 months 2 years of dire football while you have been very well paid to underperform how you can defend the attitude of the ex manager towards the fans beggars belief

One of micks proper blokes.Forced to play wing back which is a role he isn't up for
No Creswell or Mings
Will remember him for his budgie goals & the foul throws

For heavens sake ,what's wrong in players now trying to set out just how very good MM & TC were every day , and in areas many of the 'numbskulls 'don't seem to recognise as part of the all round responsibilities ?
There is no doubt we need Ian Milne to step up to the mark ,if he can recognise that as his duty , and become an effective Chief Executive who can and will speak up & out for & about the values and behaviours we value ar ITFC .Communication is vital , as others have said ,BUT it's not apparently in his book of words ! On this score words fail me ! He's woeful !

Now that MM has departed (and with such drama) we need to look forward - fans and Jonas alike. My own final thoughts on the McCarthy era are that Mick, having arrived in November 2012 (and doing a fine job pulling an ailing side together), with contract extensions in effect served a 5-and-a-half year term. In modern football that's a fairly lengthy period. Yes, he was not well supported in the transfer market (eg after Murph left). Yes, as far as we outsiders (i.e. the supporters) can tell he seems to have run a happy ship at the club. But the quality of football on offer is important to most Town fans, and that has been mostly abject - too often, embarrassingly so - since early 2015 (i.e. even before the play offs vs Norwich). We may be in for a bumpy ride - who knows? But surely ME must have realised that in all the circumstances a new Town contract for MM could not have been a serious proposition.

Wow, whoever is advising these players need to really think what is being said.
Klug is trying to engage with the fans, build bridges and get everyone pulling in the same direction, and players like this are trying to drive the wedge in again.
I am 100% sure playing under Mick was good for you but Mick has gone and you should be 100% with the club and the fans. Say he was a good guy, say you enjoyed playing for him, but you are employed by the club, not by Mick

Bored beyond belief my Mick,s old mates coming out in support Skuse, Chambers and now Knudsen. Weach hav,nt heard from Bart who got dropped after attending hid Dad,s funeral, Sears ruined by Mick, Ward in and out of the team, Emmanuel, Rowe, Kinloch you get the picture. Anyway manager exchange MM takes over Arsenal we get Wenger as he says he is not ready to retire yet and looking for a challenge!

Well do you think we are worried that you are thinking of leaving Jonas.

Be careful what you wish for,a well worn phrase.Well I wish for a team that plays pass and move footy without too much hoof, and a Manager that treats the fans with respect as he does the players.

We pay your wages mate;so zip it,and foxtrot Oscar.Kenlock s better than you anyway.

Think getting in the Danish squad has gone to to his head;that and being played regularly by our former manager.
