Evans Interview Released Tomorrow
Tuesday, 24th Apr 2018 17:13

Town owner Marcus Evans’s long-awaited first on-camera interview is to be released at midday tomorrow.

Evans has been interviewed by iFollow Ipswich with the video being put out on YouTube and available on TWTD.

“This club is nothing without the fans,” Evans told iFollow Ipswich in the interview in which he also talks about what he’s looking for in the club’s next manager, when the appointment will be made, entertainment, squad investment and why he’s chosen to speak out at this point, 10 and a half years into his ownership.

“The fans make Ipswich Town what it is and it’s my responsibility - and everyone else at the club - to make sure Ipswich Town is at the heart of the community.

“The disenchantment that has built up over the last two seasons, which is built on years of frustration, is something I am really determined to turn around.

“It’s going to be a new era with a new manager. We are going to try something different. It’s going to be calculated but it’s going to be different.

“Let’s hope it works. Let’s hope it bring a greater togetherness for the fans. I know from all the players that when the fans are onside and we are all pulling in the same direction, that can be the difference to us getting where we want to be.”

Has Marcus seen the light ? sounds like he may well have. Wont sleep tonight wondering what he says. Its going to be a big surprise if so, or a huge disappointment if not.

For me Evans took over 10years ago and started well...then the Malise and rot set-in. Faceless ownership, lack of strategy, lack of ambition, lack of player investment. Major disconnect with the great unwashed.

McCarthy did his best for 3.5 years but could only go so far... Evans for me is the bigger Rot.

Lets see if he has learnt a lesson, actually proves he wants promotion & has the ambition to stay in the Premier League. DIspell all the rumours that he is happy to run this club as a tax relief.

Sheepers had a 5 year plan and delivered. Come on Evans, lets hear it. You bring it, we will all support it. But it needs to be a better plan then the non-existent one for the past 10.

Fans are ready for the revolution, this could be exciting, but I am not holding my breath...

If it's going to be “different” then surely (and thankfully) that rules out the likes of Pardew,McClaren,Pearson etc etc.

Are we going foreign...?

Maurice Steijn...?

Just got a horrible feeling we're all going to be underwhelmed yet again.

I have a feeling he is going to invest in the team next season.
He possibly viewed McCarthy as a manager to stabilise the club but didn't have enough confidence in him to back him financially?
Perhaps he feels the time is now right to back a new manager following 5 years of austerity?
He just needed a rest after letting Keane waste his money.
Looking forward to what he has to say.

Chambers and Skusey without a transfer budget. Try that Marcus.

Marcus coming out now isn't through choice. More he had no choice. I've been Mick out for as long as I care to remember. Marcus now realises he's lost the man who's kept the club going for 5 years destroying what the club stands for at the same time.

Top bloke Proper bloke of all blokes Dougie is hanging up his two left boots. And looking for his 1st managerial break....and comes highly recommended by Mick for all his technical know how as to the modern game.

"We are going to try something different. It's going to be calculated but it's going to be different...Let's hope it works. Let's hope it bring a greater togetherness for the fans."

I'm both excited and unnerved by these statements. The three managers hired by Evans -- Keane, Jewell, and McCarthy -- all had Premier League experience when they came on board. They were known commodities at the highest level, whatever the level of success.

If I had to guess, I'd surmise that they are looking towards a younger manager with no top-level resume. That could be a Nathan Jones, or a Steven Gerrard. The former would bolster hope; the latter raises more questions than answers.

That's his Ipswich Town shirt - small cheques.

It's going to be calculated means it's a risk. Well, with one eye on his corporate entertainment businesses that could well mean Gerrard with a minder. Better to take a punt and freshen things up than be over concerned about a tried and tested manager who doesn't excite the fans . Evans knows he is going to be measured by what the media says about the next manager of a stale but potentially attractive club.

I now suspect a director of football with a young or a foreign manager......
So far he has seemed to prefer managers with a level of profile but this hints at something slightly different..........
I still like the Mogga or Cook options Burley also assuming some sort of role....

A calculated risk... In line with his other business, perhaps the squad are going to perform Swan Lake at the wolsey? Can't see Bart in a tutu

*Especially* considering 'Marvelous Marcus's post-Keane history here at ITFC -- a sadly very rancid mixture of "Unkept promises', outright 'Porkies', utterly indifference & inherent cluelessness about the game of Football on a whole -- I'll humbly say that while i also find myself *cautiously* more optimistic about the club in this the post-McCarthy era imho @Regent's short post is by FAR the most spot on this here subject of ME tonight! This the eve of the looongawaited bigger-than-sex interview with our super shy media-phobic & for long now turned tightaZzzed owner.... so I ehhh simply take the liberty to somewhat echo @Regent's justifiable skeptic but very fine sentiments:

INDEED *TALK* IS CHEAP. DIRT CHEAP ACTUALLY!
THUS WHATEVER ,THE BTW ALSO OWNER OF REPEATEDLY ALLEGED TICKET-TOUTING THG, MR.EVANS SAYS IN THIS DAY & AGE... WELL I TOO WILL JUDGE HIM *ONLY* BY WHAT HE ACTUALLY DOES!

Good on him for doing this and it might actually lessen the gap between ME and the fans. Maybe he's realised that it's time to re-connect?

But as MicksZzzztactics has already pointed out; talk is cheap. Most of us are savvy enough to know when we are being spun a story so I hope he means what he says. I want to see us competing for a play-off place next season rather than fighting for our lives against relegation.

This is not communicating with the fans! This is a totally contrived discussion with pre-written questions. In ten years we have never had the opportunity to have an open Q&A interaction with Evans. I can't believe how people have turned on this forum, he remains the problem and he will not be investing enough to halt this situation which is stagnation at best. He is a very wealthy Chelsea supporter who no longer cares that the M E Group's 37th subsidiary is losing a bit of money.

Harry and Frank?

why is being presented like the Queens speech ? Why not let reporters in ,and let them ask questions.?

@ Blue_75 - If Harry "my dog looks after my finances" Redknapp is let within 20 miles of Portman Road he will destroy the club.

That just makes me believe the Steve Gerrard Gerrard rumours even more. Would be fine with that personally. If he could get some of our players to pass the football half as good as he could and show the same level of drive and passion as he displayed i think we could go finally start going places and be entertained at the same time.

Exactly!

Unless, re my earlier post he is going to have another roll of the dice and spend big?

Southamptonblue added 09:40 - Apr 25
The pessimist in me is wondering if the "something different" will be him announcing that Portman Road is being sold off and and in the future we'll be ground-sharing with Norwich.
