Former England Man Parker Among Candidates for Town Job
Friday, 27th Apr 2018 10:46

TWTD understands former England international Scott Parker is among the candidates for the Town manager’s job.

The 37-year-old is currently Tottenham’s U18s coach having hung up his boots after four seasons at Fulham last summer.

Parker has long held management ambitions and he began working on his badges and coaching youngsters while he was at the height of his playing career, which saw him represent Charlton, Spurs, Newcastle, West Ham in addition to the Cottagers and a short spell on loan at Norwich, as well as winning 18 full caps.

It’s likely Parker was recommended to Town by David Pleat, who still has strong links with Spurs and is a long-time associate of Blues owner Marcus Evans and certain to be among those he liaises with and takes advice from as he looks to appoint the Blues manager.

Given his lack of first-team management experience, Parker would almost certainly be joined by a more senior figure assisting him, as would presumably also be the case with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, who is also in the running for the Blues vacancy but is now strongly linked with Rangers.

It’s believed Evans will begin interviewing candidates for the Town job next week, although we understand Sol Campbell is not currently among those who is set to be spoken to, contrary to a report last night.

One name on what’s likely to be a lengthy list, with Evans casting his net widely, as he seeks his new boss is Jaap Stam, former manager of tomorrow’s opponents Reading, who TWTD previously reported was interesting Evans earlier in the month.

Ex-Blues striker Shefki Kuqi remains the bookies’ favourite at 2-1 with Bet Victor followed by Wigan's Paul Cook, 5-1, Campbell at 8-1, Tony Mowbray at 10-1 and then Shrewsbury’s Paul Hurst, Mark Warburton and Taiwan boss Gary White at 16-1.

Evans said earlier in the week that he expects to make his appointment late in May or at the start of June.

With weeks to go before ME makes up his mind, the list of 'potential' managers will get longer and longer.
Scott Parker isn't such a ludicrous idea as McLaren or Pardew or Campbell or Redknapp or Warburton or even some of the others mentioned.
Scott Parker would be no more of a risk than either Ramsey or Robson was.

Beckham and Gerrard. Victoria Beckham appointed as club captain in absentia.
These links will go on and on. Looking forward to the next one!

Scott Parker was a great little footballer who played football the way it should be played and the way many town fans have been craving for. If he could instill his style into the team which would mean a lot of dead wood would have to go,then i'm all for it.

Although it's a big step up from Tottenham U18s to first team coach, this is a far better rumour than many others we've been fed. Might lead to some useful contacts. Could even work.

Another one of so, so, many that want the job of being the Manager of ITFC. Not surprised at the very least - there is / will be many clambering for the job.

Our Club has a fantastic reputation and aura about it - all down to the Past playing Legends, Sir Bobby Robson, Sir Alf Ramsey, The Cobbold Family, David Sheepshanks, John Kerr, etc; etc; etc;

Long live the TOWN - for all that we are known for.

However many more contenders will there be ? What a ridiculous scenario this is ! It will most likely be someone who is not even in the frame !
Just hope it's someone who can bring back some passion within the club !

If we did appoint Scotty P does that mean Arry as DOF?????

Still Steijn.

We desperately need a DofF at this club. Would then allow for such an appointment with a young manager. Joe Royal and David Unsworth could work. George Burley and Matt Holland would be great....but I doubt ME would want to spend his budgeted pay on a DofF.

There's been rather a lot of forelock tugging toward the owner since his appearance from the dark shadows of anonymity. The evidence suggests he hasn't loosened the purse strings and believes there is some new magical formula he or 'Arry and Pleaty have discovered that will make us competitive and entertaining. Do we believe that? Do we believe he has any notion of how to bring success? Do we believe 'Arry and Pleaty will give him anything more than conventional advice suggesting who's a good lad? Why are so many people now trusting Evans? By the way is there still an alleged arrest warrant out for him in Brazil?
