Hyam Reveals Town Exit
Monday, 7th May 2018 23:39

Midfielder Luke Hyam has revealed he has been released by the Blues.

The 26-year-old academy product, who recently returned to action after a frustrating couple of injury-hit seasons, is out of contract this summer with Town evidently not having taken up their option to keep him for a further year.

“My time at Ipswich Town has come to an end. After 15 years, I want to say a massive thanks to all the players and staff, past and present who have been part of my journey,” the former Northgate High School pupil posted on Instagram.

“I’ve been very fortunate and privileged to play for the team I supported as a child and to achieve all my goals I set out over the years.

“I’m looking forward to the next chapter in my career. I wish all the boys the very best for the following season.”

Hyam made 118 starts and 28 sub appearances for his hometown club, scoring three goals. He spent a month on loan at Rotherham during 2015/16, making two starts and three sub appearances.

Coincidentally, he made his debut as a starter on the opening day of the 2010/11 season in the Blues’ 3-1 win at Middlesbrough and played his last game for Town as a 77th minute sub during Sunday’s final game of the season 2-2 draw with the Teessiders.

very best of luck Luke .Dogged by injuries, don't think you had opportunity to prove your self. Hopefully your chance will come with your next club.

We have no one else with Luke's aggression in midfield...probably part of why he has been so injury prone.

really believe his best years are ahead and feels a little short sighted unless Luke was keen for a change too ?

Thanks Luke for all your hard work and good luck for the future. Central midfielders are on a shakey ground tho if they don't bag a handful of goals each season. This frees up prob £200 k a year in wages. Plus maybe another £ 1.5 million in increased season ticket sales - a useful war chest to go get Connolly on a permanent contract.

This is a good decision by the club. It is time to be realistic about the future and whether you approve or not there are other players who do not match up to the efforts required to make the team truly competetive.

Choice between Hyam, Nydam, Dozzell or Downes. It's a no brainer really. The future is Nydam, Downes and Dozzell.

Hyam for me is not a championship player but could do a job in League One.

Good luck anyway!

Good luck Luke but although hit by injuries he is a poor player. League 1 at best

You've lived every Town fan's dream of pulling on that blue shirt, never given less than 100% and played with the determination we would all have wanted to. A tough run of injuries but you've bounced back well. Good luck wherever you go.

Promised a lot when he broke into the first team squad but never really delivered for me. Obviously injuries didnt help but the club need better than this if it is to prosper.

Good luck to him for the future.

Good luck wherever you end up Luke! Always gave 110% and has an excellent work rate. I'm sure he will get a solid League 1 club or possibly another Championship club.

Thanks Luke for all the memories.
I especially thank you for adding much needed steel to our midfield to keep us up in MM's first season (including that fantasrtic 5-1 home win over top of the table West Ham)
You will always be one of our own.
Northgate/Ipswich Boy!
Best of luck for the future

Never going to get much action ahead of Huws, Adeyemi, Dozzell, Bishop, Downes and Skuse. He wants regular football so the correct decision has been made.

Always good to see a local lad break into the team but he didn't build on the early promise. Dropping down a division and becoming a first team regular will do him good.

Best of luck.

A sad day, one that I hoped wouldn't happen for a good while...

Good luck Luke, thank you for always giving 100% and bleeding blue, sometimes literally!

Very unlucky with injuries, it's a huge shame we didn't see you at your best for a longer period as there is a very good player in there!

All the very best, we'll keep an eye on your future progress, good luck son!

"Lukey Hyam, he's one of our own!"

Not surprising really with his injury issues and general lack of play time but there was a time he looked like being a good player (largely before McCarthy was here). All the best Luke for the future.

Gutted for Hyam losing his job, but I see this as a massive positive that ITFC are weeding out the dead wood. We can not afford passengers when we have a small squad and a limited budget, so a big step forward imo.

sad about this, but it seems like the right decision with the depth in the central midfield position. hope he gets a good opportunity elsewhere.

on another note, i make it that luke's the last player left who'd made his debut under keane.

luke chambers is now the only player left who made his debut for us before mccarthy arrived i believe, vast turnover of players!

Pivotal time for the lad, he always seemed such a good pro and a nice lad, I wish him well.

Hope he gets over his injury spell and goes on to a good time elsewhere, good fortune Luke.

hyam made his debut for us on the same day as mark kennedy and marton fulop, seems like a different world...

Hope this does not come back to bite us.

Been very unlucky with injuries and not sure if he is fully over that Brentford incident a few months ago.

Good luck fellah and for what it means I would have kept you on.

Good luck in the future, maybe a move will see you staying clear of injuries and being a big part of another team. I think it was the best decision for both player and club.

One of a select bunch of truly local boys to play for the club in the modern era. How many of us could only dream of such things as Ipswich and Suffolk schoolboys?

All the best, Luke.

I wonder who is making these decisions? can't personally see ME doing it so someone who maybe next manager is?
