McGoldrick Leaving Town
Tuesday, 8th May 2018 12:53

TWTD understands striker David McGoldrick will join Luke Hyam in leaving Portman Road this summer.

The Republic of Ireland international is out of contract and no new deal has been offered to him by Town.

McGoldrick, 30, had been widely expected to move on despite being widely viewed as the Blues’ best player with injuries having limited his involvement for much of his time at Portman Road.

This season, which started promisingly and in which he scored eight goals, ended in February when he suffered a groin injury.

Having signed from Nottingham Forest in January 2013, initially on loan but with the deal becoming a permanent switch the following summer, McGoldrick scored 45 goals in 126 starts and 33 sub appearances for the Blues.

In August 2014 Town owner Marcus Evans turned down what was understood to be a £7 million offer from Premier League Leicester for McGoldrick, who subsequently signed a new deal with the Blues making him the club’s highest-paid player.

With his family having moved back to the East Midlands a couple of years ago, Nottingham-born McGoldrick is likely to be looking for a new club closer to home ahead of 2018/19.

Can't 'build' teams around injury prone players. All the best! Really looking forward to a 'new' manager and team.....roll on next season!

Name one important goal that he scored in 5 years. Like MM never did anything.

Wasted talent. Now, no talent at all.

I believe it is a real shame as the guy is a talented footballer.
Looking at the injury crisis that has blighted our season there is a very good chance this is down to the training methods adopted, forcing every player to work hard and track back.
This is not in McGoldricks make up and nor should it be. His talent should have been nurtured.
I am sure when he gets a new club (and he will) you will see him play many more games a season than he did for us (look at Steven Taylor this season)

Good luck to him. We always looked better with him, sad he won't be part of the new era. Injuries cost us dearly.

A luxury player at best.

Waghorn and Garner are quality at Champ level. With a younger more skillful midfield and Didz's huge wages gone, happy days.

Over rated slow selfish. Not a great team player but part of the Mm family. Good decision by the club, now show Chambers the door, should have been him not Tommy Smith who went. Feeling optomistic but can't get too xcited before new manager in place.

Technically the best player on the books at Portman Road - enormous talent, BUT far too tender, thus the treatment room always beckoned .

Teams will be interested in him for sure - and don't be surprised where he goes - but my guess is that it will be on a pay as you play basis. Anything more would be a huge risk.

........ let's not forget also - that he was seldom played in his best, and rightful position. Something many players have had to suffer under 'you know who'.

Didn't help the cause for sure - wherever he goes, watch with interest. we may just see a totally different appearance record ....... !!!

What an enigma! So so gifted yet injury prone. Did we play him in the right position? Was he a striker? Was he a creative midfield guy? Or should he be another Eric Gates and play in the hole behind two good strikers? Correct me if I'm wrong but did MM try all three? Anyway when Murph left and was never replaced he became the striker. Not his best position in my opinion. Good luck Didz...you were really worth £7m when Leicester came after you.

Who is actually making these decisions?

Think Marcus is clearing out the dead wood and high earners make some money available if a new manager needs some funds,

On his day and fit can win games but not fit for long enough. Been a great servant but pleased we are shifting the deadwood just hope we get bodies in when new man comes in

Another correct decision.Think in this case however, like Berra family not settled here, unlike Bart and Chambo's.

Far too injury prone meaning payment per game uneconomic;but naturally wish this talented player all the best for the future
