Ross: I'll Listen to What Town Have to Say
Friday, 11th May 2018 23:21

St Mirren manager Jack Ross says he will listen to what Town have to say when he meets with owner Marcus Evans next week and if the job was offered to him would weigh up whether it was the best move for him at this point in his career.

The Buddies have given the Blues permission to speak to the 41-year-old, who it's understood was one of those interviewed earlier this week and will be interviewed for a second time next week.

Ross was quizzed on the Town vacancy on BT Sport earlier this evening when he was asked whether he would take the job if it were to be offered to him.

“I would listen to what they have to say but I did that previously [with Barnsley]," he said.

“I know that football is such an emotive business and people might see that as a lack of loyalty, but I did that previously and decided the current position I’m in is best and I’ll take the same approach.

“What interests me is trying to reach the highest levels I can as a manager and that’s what I would have to assess as well.

“The pathway I’ve been on at the moment has enabled me to try and progress and I would like to keep doing that one way or the other.”

Ross added: “Until anything changes it’s about me doing my job to the best of my abilities and even on Friday I spent the day at Ralston, our training ground, and that will continue to be the case until anything changes.”

Asked whether he could ultimately have a tough decision to make, he admitted: “Possibly.”

Ross remains the bookies’ favourite to take over at Town, now at evens with Bet Victor having been odds-on earlier today, with Shrewsbury boss Paul Hurst behind him at 2-1.

Scott Parker, who TWTD revealed yesterday is another of those to have been interviewed, is at 6-1, Shefki Kuqi at 10-1, Simon Grayson 16-1, Paul Cook 18-1 and Tim Sherwood, also among those interviewed, is 20-1.

I'd like to warmly congratulate ME on taking so many years to work out that he has been consistently picking the totally wrong sort of manager for this club.
We have seen one after another coming along thinking they are more important than the club. Finally we are looking at managers who will work with the club and not over the club.
It's not all about buying players with flashy names. I'm bored with money being blamed.
We have the youngsters, the academy programme. Like SBR we have to make them central to how we go ahead. We also need to improve our scouting.
Ipswich used to be one of the most profitable clubs in the League and managed properly that can happen again.

This came from one of my friends who is a season ticket holder at St Mirren

Hi Gareth. Came in October 2016 and overhauled the team in Jan 17 transfer window when 7 pts adrift at bottom of the league. The rest is history. Clever well spoken guy with clear ideas. Has complete autonomy on the playing side at Saints. Would require the same at Portman Road. Personally think Ipswich would be a questionably big step for him but 3 young kids and a 500% pay rise? On the playing side, insists on having a go every week so when we lost, tended to be 4-1, 3-0! He's big on making sure the players and fans interact. E.g. 3-line-whip on attending fans functions and piss-ups, which has transformed the atmosphere at matches. All fans would be gutted if he went too.
Hope all well!

Get it sorted Evans...if we're interested in him & he's interested in us then get the deal done now,not in 3 weeks time or we'll end up with someone nobody really wants (yet again).

This guy has a good feel about him. He is obviously very ambitious which is what we need to start with. His player management skills have obviously been a feature in the fact that he has been able to turn St Mirren around in a relatively short space of time. And he also recognises the need to relate to the fans by keeping them (us) on side. I hope the phrase 'out of small acorns big oak trees grow' would become apparent and for the first time in a very long time, we would have what we always wished for!

I think he would be a better call than many of the names that have been banded about. I hope its sorted soon so that the players can get settled.

Made an account just to offer my thoughts on Ross. I'm a Town fan living in Scotland and Ross is very highly regarded up here, having beaten Brendan Rodgers, Neil Lennon and Steve Clarke to the Manager of the Year award which is no mean feat. Took St Mirren from relegation candidates to comfortable Championship winners, all while playing attractive football too. Most of my pals up here think he would be a great coup for Town.

Exactly the sort of manager we should be going for imo.

Very diplomatic.
My take is you are second pick aftber Cook following Shrewsbury's likely Wembley trip and we are happy to hear what you have to say managering in the second tier of mediocrity and 3k crowds!

This is the most concrete news we have had on the new Manager to date, and the most detail(2nd interview).

The first 3 including Jack on the above bookies list would all be ok for me,although Scott Parker I feel would need a Director of football to hold his hand;so to speak.

But none of the others should get a 2nd interview, apart from perhaps Paul Cook.Surprised any of the others even got one interview;but perhaps Marcus is just being polite to some of his golfing buddies ?

I rarely,if ever, post personal remarks about other posters;but feel I have to call out Swn98 for his childish remarks on here about Blueboy ,not Bluebore.

Swn has made no reference to the subject matter, and just uses his remarks negatively. He may be a Town Supporter like the rest of us including Blueboy and Diss aboy but he is nearest thing to a Troll,in my humble opinion, that we have on this excellent website.

Unlike Blueboy, who is often goaded into responding to his jibes,I will not;so Swn98 can say what he likes about me,and I will treat it with the contempt it deserves, ignore, and move on.

After hitting various ups and downs thought I better say something constructive before being on the receiving end! Mmmmm, who is leaking the names of those interviewed I wonder?

3/4 more weeks of this boys and girls. Daunting or what? But still better than the song contest!

I'm still excited .. first time for years.

Whoever ME appoints as manager if he does go for a young not big name then I still think someone like George Burley as director or behind the scenes especially if Ross is appointed would be a sensible option if Marcus wants Town to go somewhere other than Div.1!!!

think we need to get burley involved he knows the clubs and the fans inside out and what is needed

seasider i think you will find if you go back through BLUEBOYS history you will find he is the one that digs out people if they happen to disagree with his opinion.
I post after every match my opinion of the game to which the usual suspects deride and insult myself and others by calling budgies etc etc .
On the current subject matter i have expressed my opinion on many occasions who my preference for manager would be Warburton but he seems to be out of the running all other names thrown into the hat are very underwhelming.
Regards your use of the word Troll if that word describes defending ones opinion then so be it you've got me labeled.

Sounds like he has got his head screwed on and is ambitious. In the days of social media someone is always going to twist what has been said and make something out of it. I know nothing about the man, just like 90% of other Town supporters I reckon, but he's got good credentials and well thought of by his current club and supporters. Refreshing to know we are looking at a manager who is employed and doing a good job and they would prefer not to loose him. Hopefully the players we look to sign will also fall into that bracket from now on!

Hopefully we will eventually get round to Nigel Clough.
