Posh Winger and Grayson Linked
Tuesday, 15th May 2018 18:06

Town, Nottingham Forest and Bristol City are all reported to be keen on Peterborough United winger Gwion Edwards, while former Bradford, Preston and Sunderland boss Simon Grayson is the latest manager to be linked with the Blues.

According to HITC Sport, Posh are anticipating summer interest in the 25-year-old former Swansea and Crawley man with the trio of Championship clubs all keeping tabs.

The former Wales U21 international has another year left on his contract at London Road.

Reports linking the Blues with summer targets ought to be taken with a pinch of salt while the Blues are still to appoint a new manager, who will no doubt have his own ideas on recruits.

While director of football Dave Bowman, who is effectively the club’s chief scout, remains at Portman Road he is expected to follow former manager Mick McCarthy when he gets a new club, having previously worked alongside him at Wolves, Sunderland and the Republic of Ireland.

Meanwhile, speculation regarding McCarthy’s successor continues with Grayson, who left Bradford after a short spell, reported to have been contacted by the Blues.

It would be a surprise if an established Championship boss such as Grayson was seriously in the running for the Town job with owner Marcus Evans appearing to favour a more up-and-coming appointment this time around.

Among those interviewed so far are St Mirren’s Jack Ross - who Evans is speaking to for a second time this week - former Aston Villa and Spurs boss Tim Sherwood and Tottenham’s U18s coach Scott Parker, while we understand Shrewsbury manager Paul Hurst also remains very much on the radar.

Meanwhile, Town have begun the annual renovation of the Portman Road pitch, which suffered badly during the winter, particularly during a rainy and fixture-heavy January. The surface is scraped off before being reseeded. Groundsman Ben Connell's Turf Journal can be found here.

Lazy journalism with regards to Grayson. Pretty confident he'll be no where near the top of our list. It appears to be a two horse race between Ross and Hurst now. Even if Shrewsbury are promoted I think we will at least approach Paul Hurst. We'd still be a much better career prospect with higher wages than Shrewsbury could offer.

If we appoint Grayson or a has been after being linked with a number of up and coming promising managers it would be a huge disappointment.

Still got this feeling it will be someone out of the blue, who has not been linked with the job, that will suddenly be appointed.
Seems to work that way with transfers...

As long as this guys not got us in mind... https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44109670?ns_mchannel=social&ns_campaign=bbc

If it isnt any of Hurst/Ross or leading favorites, i can still see a Redknapp/Lampard JV

Seems to me that ME is finding harder to fill the position than anticipated perhaps hes had a few knock backs from his prefered candidates pure speculation off course.

Grayson is underwhelming. Could the club not have done the pitch during the season? It wasn't getting much use at times, mind you that had been the case during the last few campaigns!!!

Not convinced there's much chance of Grayson, thankfully. And for "established Championship boss", read "established League One boss who's never really done much in the Championship".

They could have relaid the pitch between the edge of each penalty area months ago considering we bypass midfield most games.

It wouldn't surprise me if Grayson has had an interview. I think ME will cover all bases plus need some contingency if any of his other preferred options go belly up plus there is the little matter of compensation for the likes of Ross and Hurst which may cause ME an issue when it comes down to negotiating.

From a neutral perspective,Sunderland apart, SG has got a good record.

Very good manager like MM, but coaching ability questionable. Alex Neil said he didn't realise until he worked with the PNE players how good they were - that says to me that SG struggled to adapt a system to get the best out of players or restricted their freedom. Neil seems to have done much better with fundamentally the same set of players.

In conclusion very underwhelming. I wouldn't though rule out anything with ME.

For Christ's sake Marcus please announce Jack Ross tomorrow cos I don't think I can take anymore of these truly awful links like Grayson etc etc.

HUGE FAT NO from me.

I would be surprised if Edwards is good enough for the Championship.
Used to watch him at Crawley. Capable of brilliance but not particularly pacy and a bit lightweight.
Crawley needed money so they sold him to Peterborough. League One sounds more his level.

Think we probably all need to chill out a bit. I suspect before the dust settles, we'll have been linked with Santa Claus and The Tooth Fairy!
