Knudsen Unused Sub as Denmark Draw
Saturday, 2nd Jun 2018 21:09

Town defender Jonas Knudsen was an unused sub as Denmark drew 0-0 with Sweden in Stockholm in their final friendly before their 23-man squad for the World Cup in Russia is announced on Monday.

Jens Stryger Larsen started in the 25-year-old’s preferred left-back slot despite the Udinese man primarily being a right-sided player.

However, Knudsen, who was given the number five shirt for the match, was the only out-and-out left-back in the 27-man preliminary squad which assembled for a training camp in Helsingør and seems likely to be included manager Ã…ge Hareide’s reduced final travelling party.

In March, Knudsen won his third full international cap in a 0-0 friendly draw with Chile, his first since joining Town in the summer of 2015.

Denmark, who have another friendly at home to Mexico next Saturday, will play Peru, Australia and France in the group stages of the finals.

Blues keeper Bartosz Bialkowski joined up with a 32-man Poland party for a training camp in Arlamow on Tuesday. The final Polish squad is also set to be named on Monday.

He is a decent championship player, but if I am being totally honest he is not international standard for a team the level of Denmark. I hope he makes the cut and gets some minutes on pitch at the World Cup, as it will be great experience for him and he can only come back better for it. But I wouldn't expect him to be gaurenteed a starting place, especially after this evening.

Another poster pointed out that if Knudsen is on the verge of the Denmark squad, Spence should be on the verge of the England side. If Spence was called up for England, we'd all be genuinely shocked. Good championship players, but at this level?

Probably reserve due to playing week in week out in highly competitive championship league. Other competition has been been very spaorodic for their respective teams. Looks as though he will travel as back up.
Ok at this level. Not good enough for high level championship, but is actually a very good out and out defender, ability on the ball is not good enough, but will judge differently under a new manager who hopefully tells him to be more composed.

Unfortunately he is classed as one of micks proper blokes & played in a poor & boring team .interested to see how he fits into Paul Hurst set up

We are not so fortunate to have a lot of players to choose from i DK. That said we are undefeated for 14 matches, 600 days. We seldom conceede more than one goal. We are above England in the FIFA World ranking ( and Can beat you anytime ;-) )Hope Knudsen makes it as it makes the World cup more Fun .

It will be interesting to see if he plays in the final warm up match (v Mexico), as the manager may have just been checking out Larson at left full back as back up.

Bear in mind Jonas has looked pretty comfortable in a back 3 set up (& could be considered as a pretty good stand in option as a Centre Back for Denmark)

Anyway, let's hope he makes the plane as I love his attitude & passion, despite him not being in the same class as Cresswell or Mings.
