Bolton Linked With Garner Move
Saturday, 30th Jun 2018 16:54

Bolton Wanderers are reported to be eyeing a £500,000 move for Blues striker Joe Garner.

According to The Sun, the Trotters are set to make a bid for the 30-year-old, who joined Town from Rangers last summer for a fee believed to be in the region of £750,000, signing a three-year deal with the club having the usual option for a further season.

The Blues are said to be willing to accept offers for the former Preston man with new manager Paul Hurst keen to put his mark on the squad ahead of the new season. Garner, who was born in Blackburn, is also reported to be interested in a move closer to home, which we understand is the case.

The former England U16, U17 and U19 international, who has also played for Carlisle, Watford and Nottingham Forest, made 29 starts and three sub appearances last season, scoring 10 goals before a small fracture to his skull prematurely ended his campaign in March.

The frontman was back training with the rest of the squad at the start of pre-season on Monday.

Piss take, looking at less than we bought him for yet when he's played he's been a rock for us

Move fits for everyone, PH has rarely used two strikers up front, and I can't see him dislodging Waghorn. Looks like Garner wants the move, PH looks like he wants the move, makes sense all round.

If one striker is to be sold much rather it was Garner than Waghorn

Taking a loss on a player who was a first choice when fit last season doesn't sound logical, I'm guessing this is just The Sun being The Sun.

Back to 4-5-1 then? Or 4-3-3? We seem to have shipped defenders and strikers and brought in wingers and physios!

Rather he goes than Waghorn to be honest.

Don't get the love in for Garner, poor player for me. Too interested in diving rather than trying to score a goal or win the ball. Can't see how's he's devalued by a third in a year though, need to get our outlay back and put it towards a new centre back.

No issue if we get our money back. Like him, think he's a nuisance but rather him than Waghorn and if he wants to go then replaceable

Webster, gone, Bart, unlikely to stay & now our 2 star signings from last season heavily linked with moves away. Not the best few days I can remember for the club.

I'm sure this won't be popular, but I really don't rate Garner. He is a typical MM type player. Limited skill, But puts himself about - often fouling. He's not my cup of tea. I doubt he is PHs either.

That said, unless as always the fee received plus wages is fully reinvested into the playing squad, then it would be pointless selling him.

PH looks like a man with a VERY clear plan. If players don't fit for whatever reason then we will have to accept that reality.

If Garner does go i could only assume PH has seen better around the Club, or just doesn't fancy him. Either way, most likely scenario is it is The Sun talking out its backside.....not for the first time

Garner brings goals to the table, but as Jas says he likes to throw himself on the deck a bit. Not as bothered about this one as I would be if Waghorn leaves. Need some height in the front line. All change at ITFC and that's all good in my book.

Garner is now a year older & seems increasingly injury prone so £500k seems about right. Will be interested in whom Hurst wants to bring in though as don't see Waghorn as a lone striker.

Not too bothered by this, he is too much of a drama queen for me

I like Garner and I like Waghorn. Both seem like toughened players not fresh kids (Nydam, Dozzell, Folami, Bishop, Kenlock etc.)
From our current squad I would not want to lose either of these or Bart, Chambo...keep some steel in the spine of the squad

At this rate we won't have 11 players left at the start of the season.

Sell everyone, sell all assets, should be able to raise a fair bit. Still some of you would be singing ME's praises!! Is the penny starting to drop yet?!!
