Bolton Linked With Garner Move
Saturday, 30th Jun 2018 16:54

Bolton Wanderers are reported to be eyeing a £500,000 move for Blues striker Joe Garner.

According to The Sun, the Trotters are set to make a bid for the 30-year-old, who joined Town from Rangers last summer for a fee believed to be in the region of £750,000, signing a three-year deal with the club having the usual option for a further season.

The Blues are said to be willing to accept offers for the former Preston man with new manager Paul Hurst keen to put his mark on the squad ahead of the new season. Garner, who was born in Blackburn, is also reported to be interested in a move closer to home, which we understand is the case.

The former England U16, U17 and U19 international, who has also played for Carlisle, Watford and Nottingham Forest, made 29 starts and three sub appearances last season, scoring 10 goals before a small fracture to his skull prematurely ended his campaign in March.

The frontman was back training with the rest of the squad at the start of pre-season on Monday.

I wouldn't be too cut-up about Garner moving on. He's a fairly limited player who focuses too much on histrionics and winding-up opponents. I can't see other clubs queuing up to spend more than this on him.

In Hurst I trust.

I cannot believe PH is going to sell both our best strikers lol we haven't even brought any in yet.

He doesn't do enough off the ball for me. He's looking a bit old in that photo so maybe he's struggling with fitness. PH has already suggested he wouldn't put up with any of that and I guess he would move on anyone that doesn't cut it.

Can we have some signings first please and then let go of the ones we don't want? What if we sell everyone and then our clown of a chief exec fails to sign the ones we want?!

Cat, cant see how PH has been with squad long enough to make that judgement, looks like wholesale change of team just hope we don't end up with a league 2 team

This is getting ridiculous.

We need signings. We have the Webster money and the club should be acquiring players. Until we get this right then we will justify our position as third favourites to be relegated.

And this really pains me, but why would we sell garner to a relegation rival (second favourite). I expect to get slaughtered for that comment but aside from MM leaving what have we achieved with four weeks and six days to end of window. The settled squad is dismantled and it is becoming clear that some don't fancy it under PH.

Bit disappointed if we sold Garner because the Garner song is so good haha!
Would be more disappointed if Waghorn left & think if we could get a good centre half in & maybe replace Garner this can only be a plus. Bit more money for Hurst to play with hopefully & bring im who he wants.

Its suprising how many people read “bolton linked” but react as if it a done deal...

It may be speculation
There may have been an offer that was rejected
It could be a noisey scout

Its nothing firm... how many players have we been linked with in the last 5 years... how many came??

As for slating PH for it is unbelivable..!

Not overly bothered if this happens. I still think Freddie Sears has a lot to offer when played in his natural position. Works hard, plays on the shoulder of the last man and has a turn of pace. Nuisance.

Think a few too many people starting to assume the worst. Just because we are linked does not make it a done deal.

I'd be gutted if we lost Waghorn and Garner, but Hurst may believe we have enough firepower already with Sears, Folami and Morris. We haven't even played a game yet so only time will tell. Huge two losses already (Webster and Knight) so maybe everyone is jumping the gun and thinking the worst.

If Hurst wants to play a high intensity pressing game getting rid of Garner makes no sense and certainly not for less than we paid. I'm sure hurst also wants to put his stamp on the squad but moving players on for the sake of it unless someone better is coming in would be ridiculous. I'm worried we will let good players go and end up the wrong end of a change in league position

We seem to be asset stripping in the same way clubs do when they are relegated. Obviously, players like Webster/Waghorn/Garner lose significant value if we go down. Strange situation. The feel-good factor is rapidly changing.

Not the type of player that sits well with me, he's always looking for the foul instead of getting on and playing the game. Actually puts the referee under pressure to not give the foul when it's legitimately against Garner. Why do we always have to accept less than what we paid for a player, to his credit he's come here scored goals and not yet played a full season.
Just think about the amount of players we have been linked to so far and not signed, it's just the same for other teams.

If we are already preparing for life in League 1, that's sad. Defeatist attitude before we have even kicked a ball isn't going to help. Perhaps I'm going to get tonnes of minuses, but I believe we do have enough to avoid the drop this season. It's going to be a huge battle but we just need to be better than 3 other teams. We can do this. COYB!!!

Take that, but must keep Waghorn
Never really rated Garner, spends most of the game on his arse or winding everybody up,more a dino type player

I think that Garner will move on, not the front man required by Hurst.
I think that Hurst has his team in mind, and I like the promise that he brings.

Everyone needs to calm down a little this is just another rumour. There'll be plenty of them before the window shuts. Hurst has his own plan to implement, he's been watching film of games talking to coaches at the club. How did Garner fracture his skull I'm sure there's a rumour about that. And who says you vacant replace Garner for £500000 Waghorn only cost £200000 and no one saw that coming!!!

We're at the start of a rebuild, moulding the squad into what PH wants. That'll take a few seasons, but people need to relax and let PH do his stuff - and if that includes a few established names moving on then so be it.
I've never rated Garner that highly, so rather he goes and his fee helps secure a good player elsewhere. I'd also like to see our two young strikers step up this season - no guarantees but I think we may have two gems there, and finding out is what the next couple of seasons are about.
