Town Linked With Fulham Youngster Edun
Wednesday, 4th Jul 2018 13:04

Town are being linked with a loan move for Fulham midfielder Tayo Edun, who looks set to move on from Craven Cottage this summer. Edun, 20, was recently on trial with MLS outfit Portland Timbers and is now rumoured to be interesting League One clubs Barnsley and Shrewsbury, as well as Town.

The Islington-born youngster has had limited first team experience with the Cottagers, playing twice in the Caribao Cup last season and later clocking up two Championship appearances as Fulham headed towards promotion back to the Premier League.

He has represented England from U17 through to U20 levels and was in the U19 squad, alongside both Andre Dozzell and new loanee Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea, that triumphed in the European U19 Championship 12 months ago in Georgia, where he was named in the team of the tournament despite being sent off in the 2-1 final win over Portugal after collecting two yellow cards.

Edun, who is left-footed and can play in central midfield, left-back or in a wide midfield role, made his senior debut for Fulham almost two years in an EFL Cup win at Leyton Orient and also featured in his side’s subsequent ties in the same competition against Middlesbrough and Bristol City.

New Town boss Paul Hurst made no secret of his desire to recruit two wingers and has already brought in Jordan Roberts after he was released by Crawley, although the Blues would appear well covered in the centre of midfield.

Former Colchester wide man Kane Vincent-Young, who plays as a full-back, wing-back or wide midfield on either flank, is with the Town squad at their training camp in Spain.

Named in U19 Euro team of the tournament... what's not to like about this prospect. I hope this happens. Give him a chance if he comes here and i'm sure he can prove you wrong.

Most of the current England team in Russia were in the U19, 20 and 21s recently so not sure what the problem with this chap is. Moon on a stick springs to mind.

Everyone usually moans when we sign ageing journey men and say we should sign up and coming players and then moan when we try to do exactly that.

We have already signed one relatively inexperienced player on loan. We don't need any more. Better to play our own players. Additionally, the fascination of loan signings has to stop. Don't waste money, invest funds into our team - players who will be with us two or three seasons.

We have just raked in £4.5 M and I for one expect us to sign a number of permanent additions for sizeable transfer fees.

Please stop moaning and worrying this manager does know what he is doing. Southgate got the England team to win penalties may be give this new manager some space. It's crazy having a go at him just allow him a break , mad but true

Why are many banging on about wanting proven players. Why would those sort of players come here when there are better clubs out there.

Please stop living on past glories. We are a bang average championship club and there is no way the owner is going to spend a 7 figure fee on a player who might not be any better than what we have got.

The Fulham lad has been around a very good squad who got promoted. Sure he is no mug.

How can it be a loan if he's thinking of moving on from Fulham! Just saying 😂😂

Suspect this would be a loan as a season long trial.

Jas, what would you consider sizeable In terms of a fee?

Quite happy about the link. The only reason he isn't in the Fulham team is because they have sessingion

Much talk of 'proven players', 'experience', players who have played at this level etc... Sometimes when it comes to building a team, it's quite simply square pegs in square holes that brings success.

lets give Hurst the benefit of the doubt on signings, just because players are on-loan, released by their clubs or were unsuccessful in league 1 or 2 doesn't make them poor players. It's impossible for us to know what these players have been through. Maybe they were playing to a style that didn't suit them? Maybe they were demotivated/demoralised because they felt they should be playing at a higher level? Maybe they were simply not on the same wave length as members of their team? We have to trust in Hurst until we see reason to doubt that trust. He's building a team from ground up and knows what he wants.

The only way out of this league is to sign experience, size, speed and ability. Its time we looked abroad again. Our dutch connections in the 70's and 80's gave us the quality in mid field. Germans at the back and Scots up front who can mix it. But height is the key and no light weights. I am concerned we don't appear to be looking abroad enough.
We have to put our faith in PH for the present and God help him if he gets it wrong. We have spent far too long in this league. Even the papers are disinterested in reporting our games now. Let us try and get a bit of positive notoriety back again.

What are you all on about in terms of experience?

We still have Chambo, Skuse, Waghorn, Garner, Bart, Knudsen, even Sears. We have plenty until such time as they move on which none of the above have.

Brilliant Stoke High and so so accurate and I am a member of the older generation. I have read your posts before and they all are very rounded .... keep making sense, well said.

Don't want to be too negative but if we're going for the season loans (like we do most seasons now) I have a slight worry that we're going for another player with no experience at this level...Lawrence, Fraser, Celina, Carter-Vickers, Connolly all had experience to varying degrees particularly in the Championship. Between the two including Chalobah they have only 2 appearances at league level (2 brief appearances by Edun for Fulham).
I suppose it would cost Evans too much on wages for players with a bit more experience.

I want players with experience? You mean like Cresswell, Mings, Johnny Walters etc. When you ain't got the money you can find some great bargains in the bargain basement. Face facts you dreamers the money ain't there!!

When the owner is starting each campaign with an alleged loss of 6m, you cannot expect a massive outlay on players fees or wages. However, with the 2m from sponsorship and some of the funds being available from the sale of players, I would expect at least 4/5m to be reinvested in the squad. I still believe we will see some ‘faces' signing on, if not then that simply ain't good.
It's frustrating following a stagnating ITFC, but in all the years I've been a supporter we have generally always been a selling club.

There is a plan here. These aren't random signings. We may struggle for 2or 3 months but then I think we'll come good.

Agree with the previous comments and must state we need some proven quality/experience in the signings we make and not just picking good league one players apart from Charlie Wyke that is,a possible gold mine if we could get him to come to PM.
