Town Turn Down Birmingham Bialkowski Bid
Monday, 9th Jul 2018 12:55

Town have turned down a £2.75 million offer for keeper Bartosz Bialkowski, which TWTD understands came from Birmingham City, who were strongly linked over the weekend.

Reports that Birmingham were keen on the Polish international emerged on Friday with further stories claiming they were set to make a bid appearing in the Sunday papers.

The Blues want to keep hold of the 31-year-old but the former Southampton and Notts County man has only a year left on his contract, Town having taken up an option to keep him for a further season at the end of the last campaign.

But Bialkowski is still to put pen to paper on the new deal ex-boss Mick McCarthy said had been agreed in January.

Speaking in April, Bialkowski said his agent was continuing to talk to owner Marcus Evans regarding the new terms.

We understand Evans is very keen to get Bialkowski, who is currently away from the club following the World Cup, tied down to a new deal rather than risk losing him for what would be a cut-price fee this summer or nothing this time next year when he would be a free agent. Talks are expected to resume shortly.

Summer interest in Bialkowski, Town’s Player of the Year for the last three seasons, had been widely expected due to his contract situation and with Crystal Palace - whose interest we understand has cooled more recently - having targeted him in January.

I understand he's 31 and in the last year of his contract but that's still far too cheap and Bart is far too good for Birmingham. Hope ITFC do all they can to get him to sign that contract.

Little bit of good news there, hopefully this shows ME's intentions and signals he'll do the same should a bid come in for Waghorn

This guy is without doubt the best goalkeeper in England, outside the Prem! £2.75M!?!? HAAHAHAHAHA!!

Good news. Need to stick a 5-7m price tag on him now.

I don't think anyone would begrudge Bart of his chance of Premier League football, but Birmingham will not get you Poland caps.

I hope it was rather forcefully turned down, that offer I find offensive. £2.75m is a small price to pay if it keeps us from the cost of relegation and Bart can do that.

£2.75m is just a joke bid, regardless of his contract situation. Why would he even want to go to Birmingham anyway? He can just stay here if he wants to be at a mid table team.

Hilarious.
They obviously know nothing about him if they think he would want to move to a cr@p championship side who only just about stayed up last season.

Money talks and if they offer him more than we do and a longer contract.

Absolutely pathetic offer. 5 million at the very minimum but really we shouldn't sell unless its to a Premier League side. Waghorn and Bart linked away today, the news just get worse and worse

Phil - Bart is presumably on holiday after Poland's exit. Do you know when he rejoins the squad? I'm hoping that him being back will resolve his future one way or the other i.e. if he doesn't sign then we will presumably have to sell him as it indicates he wants to go.

Derisory offer for one of our best players. Realistically -in today's market - £6m+!

@rfretwell - Hong Kong owner. See https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/paul-suen-trillion Sounds a bit like ME, camera-shy and threw lots of money at transfers after quickly sacking a popular manager (Rowett) with the club heading for the trap door as a result

Anything less than 8m and I say do one. The guy is class. He's as good as a striker, which a lot of teams would, in today's market, pay that money for. £8m+ or p*ss off

Brum have to start somewhere ( like we do for the Blackpool defender) . You're hardly going to make the first offer you make at your maximum bid are you ! I'm amazed some people on here can't actually see that.

I'd be more concerned if we sold Waghorn tbh

I want Bart to sign that long-term contract with us, but if he doesn't unfortunately it makes sense to sell him rather than let him go for nothing at the end of the season.
Ultimately, we need to sit down with him and see where he sees himself.
No-one would begrudge him his chance in the Premier League, but Birmingham is a sideways step at best.
