Bialkowski-Chasing Birmingham Under Transfer Embargo
Monday, 9th Jul 2018 14:39

Birmingham City’s pursuit of Blues keeper Bartosz Bialkowski looks to have come to an abrupt end - for the moment at least - with the Midlanders reportedly having been hit by a Financial Fair Play transfer embargo.

The embargo relates to last summer’s spending which saw Birmingham sign 13 players.

According to almajir.net, they had been placed under a ‘soft embargo’ designed to give them time to address the FFP situation, however, the EFL’s deadlines for them to do so passed without a resolution having been reached and they have now been given a formal embargo.

The development leaves recently recruited Danish left-back Kristian Pedersen in limbo with his Bosman signing from Union Berlin having been confirmed by the club but with the EFL refusing to register him.

Earlier, TWTD reported that the Blues had turned down a £2.75 million offer from Birmingham for Bialkowski. Given the embargo, as things stand, their attempt to land the Polish international - and any of manager Garry Monk’s other summer targets - would appear to be over.

Since when have the EFL ever taken Fair Play seriously? What about the likes of Wolves, Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa etc

If Wolves hadn't been promoted they would be looking at a Embargo for over spending: QPR have been in a financial mess after going crazy while in the premier league & getting relegated they got a embargo: Bournemouth also got hit with it but staying in the premier league they paid the fine: Birmingham spent Big last summer Jota Roberts Vassel etc didn't get promoted & going into a embargo & over spending has certainly affected Aston Villa this summer after they missed out in the play-offs: Nottingham Forest will be in the same boat if they miss out on promotion: so everyone moaning we don't spend this, spend that! ask yourself if it's yr own money do you go & buy whatever! no you live within a budget & buy what you can afford:

Forest have had a transfer embargo 2 seasons ago. They cant be hit by the ffp for this seasons spending till next year when if they get promoted would be fined. If not would get another transfer embargo. Presuming theyve broken the ffp which is based on income versus outgoings. I suspect they will have so theyre taking the risk obviously

Ive never understood how FFP was introduced to stop teams spending above their means and to stop clubs going into administration yet they FINE them!!? Quite simple if a points deduction was to happen and everyone knew the consequences would be 10 or 15 points deducted depending on their overspending then NO club would do this!! How simple is it! I mean a club the size of Manchester City or PSG have had this in the past and been given a fine or transfer embargo but if you've already bought the BEST players and spent the money and have plenty of money anyway what is their real suffering from these rules? Nothing!

Fairplay rules have been better than nothing, but could definitely be implemented better

Question is was it turned down because we knew about the embargo ? I hope I just being cynical and we will turn down all offers for him no matter what.

Mr Town - it is retrospective, so Forest will likely be hit next summer. It requires accounts to be filed and then action is taken

What a surprise, Dodgy Harry is in charge of the club for about only 3 months and the clubs is hit with a transfer embargo! Thank God he never got the job here

There's also the issue of whether Bart wants to stay or not. I hope once the season is progressing he (and a few others) will realise how a change in atmosphere can make all the difference. The complaining (whether you agreed with it or not) drags players down just as much as positive support can boost them.

If Bart wants to move I wouldn't begrudge him, if he wants to move to Birmingham I would tell him he's better than that and to hold out for what he's worth.

Last year of Contract, £4 mil would be good money.

Wish we'd signed enough new players to warrant an embargo.
