Bialkowski-Chasing Birmingham Under Transfer Embargo
Monday, 9th Jul 2018 14:39

Birmingham City’s pursuit of Blues keeper Bartosz Bialkowski looks to have come to an abrupt end - for the moment at least - with the Midlanders reportedly having been hit by a Financial Fair Play transfer embargo.

The embargo relates to last summer’s spending which saw Birmingham sign 13 players.

According to almajir.net, they had been placed under a ‘soft embargo’ designed to give them time to address the FFP situation, however, the EFL’s deadlines for them to do so passed without a resolution having been reached and they have now been given a formal embargo.

The development leaves recently recruited Danish left-back Kristian Pedersen in limbo with his Bosman signing from Union Berlin having been confirmed by the club but with the EFL refusing to register him.

Earlier, TWTD reported that the Blues had turned down a £2.75 million offer from Birmingham for Bialkowski. Given the embargo, as things stand, their attempt to land the Polish international - and any of manager Garry Monk’s other summer targets - would appear to be over.

There were some comments made yesterday along the lines of "where are Birmingham City getting their money from?"

Seems we have our answer.....

Bart's target should be the Premier League if he is looking to move. No point going to Birmingham, Forest or any other mid/lower table club.
While he might not get a starting role to begin with he should look for a guaranteed number 2 role to begin with (at least) in the Prem and work from there. I suspect that his World Cup experience probably exacerbated his desire to play at a higher level.
If he appreciates us giving him his big break he might consider signing an improved deal for another couple of years with a figure inserted that would trigger a move, e.g. 7m

Barr's target should be the Premier League if he is looking to move. Glad this transfer didn't go far. Imagine if fee had been agreed and we had signed a replacement, then Bart stuck in limbo between clubs.

Really shocked with our transfers so far. Young loanee from Chelsea and a released player from League 2. Expected much more movement by now, especially as we have lost so many members of our squad.

I can see an opportunity for us to corner the market for Danish left backs.

I was wondering where Birmingham were suddenly getting their money from, and now I know!
Whilst I remain critical of the management of our club in the last 5 years, and am at best sceptical for the coming season, I do recognise that we have never come close to being in such a mess as BCFC appear to be.
It would appear that they spent so much time laughing at Aston Villa's situation that they forgot to look at themselves.
So not only did this club over spend, but also narrowly avoided relegation in the process, so no value for money either.
For me, as this relates to activity 12 months ago, this is testament to what happens when you get on the merry go round of has been/never were managers like Redknapp and Cotterill, both of whom were on my 'darkest fears' list over the early part of the summer.
Laughably, only football could come up with the concept of a 'soft embargo' - a grey area open to further abuse in my opinion. How typical of a footballing authority.

Not a problem we will ever face. We only sign the odd player now and then and when we do they are often freebies released from league 1 and 2! We will never get into the mess of the likes of Birmingham and Villa.

Btw, How come Villa are being linked with loads of new signings? Surely they will need to offload 15-20 players?

Point of order, the words Jordan Rhodes are officially a swear unless he is Billy no goals this season

Tony.

JT off the wage bill and then their Busisness is going to depend on offloading Grealish

Why on earth would he go to Birmingham City? Seriously they are not a big club. He should hold out for a better deal from ITFC.
