Trialist Kane Vincent-Young has left the Blues following Town’s Spanish training camp and appears set to stay with Colchester United.

Last month, TWTD revealed that Blues manager Paul Hurst was keen on the 22-year-old, who turned down a new deal with the League Two U’s over the summer, and the former Spurs academy full-back or wing-back subsequently spent last week training with the Town squad in Spain.

He played the full 90 minutes of Sunday’s 1-0 friendly defeat of Kilmarnock at the Scottish Premiership side’s training base at La Manga but will be in the Colchester squad which travels to Carden Park in Cheshire today for their training camp.

“Kane will be on the trip to Carden Park, which is brilliant news for us,” U’s manager John McGreal told the Colchester Gazette.

“We’ve tried really hard with Kane. I don’t know what’s gone on and I’m not going to ask too many questions but he’s been one of our players and he’s been excellent for us, especially during my two-year tenure in charge.

“There’s a genuine hope now that he’ll sign the contract. We’ll sit down with his representatives and Tony [Humes] and Robbie [Cowling] and try and get something organised as quickly as we can.”

Elsewhere, former Blues striker Jordan Rhodes joined Norwich City on a season-long loan from Sheffield Wednesday yesterday.

Former Kesgrave High School pupil Rhodes, 28, came through the Town academy but was controversially sold to Huddersfield by former boss Roy Keane in July 2009 before he had made a first-team start for the Blues.

Rhodes, the son of one-time goalkeeper-coach Andy, scored one goal in 10 sub appearances for Town before departing to the Terriers in a deal which was ultimately worth just over a million to the Blues, a fraction of the fees subsequently paid for him by Blackburn (£8 million), Middlesbrough (£9 million) and the Owls (£10 million).

Another ex-Town striker, Paul Taylor, is on trial at Doncaster Rovers having left Bradford City in April.

The 30-year-old former Peterborough frontman played for the League One side in a 5-0 win at Frickley last night.

Shows that Hurst is being sensible in his decision making (not just signing any player who will play for us). If Norwich build their team around Rhodes...he could prove a good signing. Just hope he has as good a season as that Dutch striker they used to have...can't even remember his name but I'm sure they'll put up a statue of him at some point...

BlueySwede added 10:16 - Jul 11 Not worried about Rhodes or Vincent Young (I trust Paul Hurst judgement). More concerned by the lack of transfer activity (incoming players). Not even rumors at the moment, which is a bit worrying. Yes, I know, patience and all that...but we have lost quite a few players and we certainly need a few quality additions.

Cotter was very impressive when played last year . As for Rhodes , he has been very poor when seen at Portman Road recently .

Oldozblue added 11:19 - Jul 11 Rhodes according to archant media reports played well for Norwich at Lincoln - made several chances only a few hours after signing. Norwich have signed a lot of players - several of whom are internationals. This really should be a wake up call for Ipswich. The best we can hope is the new manager is very careful and only takes people he is confident in. The lad at Blackpool looked very good on his show reel - 1 million for a good player is no longer a huge amount. The worst scenario is that the Chairman is being reluctant- if the new Manager does well with Div 1 and 2 frees he is a genius. No fan of Mick but he did pick up Bart and Waghorn for peanuts. I hope Evans does not think it is that easy. Patience is a virtue but you have to bed raw talent in and the season will come around all too soon

Len_Brennan added 12:08 - Jul 11 Obviously not considered good enough, or better than the full backboptions we have. We had a look & made an informed judgement, good management. As for Rhodes, to be fair to him, he owes us nothing after the way he & his father were treated by a former manager (& therefore the club). We certainly should have ended up getting more out of him, both as a player & as a transfer, but I wouldn't swap him for Waghorn. He has scored a fair few goals at Championship level, but has not really added to the overall quality of the sides he has joined & does not appear to be viewed as a Premier League level striker, despite some sizeable transfer fees.

Last chance saloon for him at scumville I think . Could do very well but hasn't done much for toast 2/3 years now. Been found out tactically ?

Norwich are apprently picking up a fair chunk of that, now it maybe he finds some form and is a game changer for them but one had to say a 30k a week roll of the dice is a massive gamble. Will be an interesting to watch developments. Having Raked in 30 million quid so far Scum seem to be keeping a v tight belt which makes the Rhodes move an even stranger one

therein61 added 17:18 - Jul 11 We have players in the building better or on a par with Vincent-young so no probs, as for Rhodes he left here under circumstances off the field rather than on it due to Mr Keane!! he has hardly set the world alight since but has a very healthy bank balance good luck to him, I see no reason why the idiot Taylor should be given space on any thing to do with our club!!now what I want to read is that we have made a couple or more decent additions to the squad with the season fast approaching now that would be worth reading and having a beer to celebrate.
