Manchester United Among Clubs Linked With Youngster Crowe
Sunday, 15th Jul 2018 09:06

Academy youngster Dylan Crowe is reportedly a target of Manchester United, Brighton, RB Leipzig, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Benfica.

According to Goal.com, the clubs are all eyeing the 17-year-old right-back, who has won nine caps for the England U17s, and are said to be willing to pay the Blues up to £500,000.

Second-year scholar Crowe, who broke into the U23s side at Portman Road last season, is yet to sign a contract with Town, despite having turned 17 - when players are permitted to sign their first professional deals - in April.

The Blues recently lost 16-year-old Ben Knight to Manchester City for a fee of just over £1 million, while academy schoolboy Marcelo Flores, whose father Ruben is a coach at Playford Road, is interesting Arsenal.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Barcelona are also among the clubs believed to have been tracking the Canadian.

Ok this is starting to get on my bluetits. With no money, the ONLY hope teams like us have of competing is to sell new talent for big money, or for the youth to take us up. Big fish swim along and throw their patronising scraps at us to eliminate any future competition... or scared that a rival club may sign someone big. It is simply wrong and the rules need to change. The gap is getting wider each year, an absolute farce, so unjust!

No wonder kids heads are turned when the system is so obviously biased in favour of the elite teams. Perhaps our up and coming youngsters should talk to the Dozells to understand why the grass is not always greener on the other side.

For the 5 point plan to work
Category A status is needed
Either invest at the top ie buying bigger name players
Or really push youth investing at bottom.
Plus if you Cat A you get the chance to raid others
For there youngsters

Is it right budgies have Cat A?

We have absolutely no chance of getting Cat 1 status now. Those who already have it have effectively made it a closed shop.

The mistake was not going for it when the system first came about, one of Evans many mistakes over the years!

Yes Norwich have Cat 1 status and are very active in their recruitment across the whole of East Anglia.

It's a huge problem and one that the FA should properly research. How many ‘promising' youngsters (surely they all are) have been bought by clubs in higher leagues and how many/few minutes have they played.

One simple (perhaps too simple) solution would be to see a 50% sell-on few introduced for all players under 18 sold into higher leagues, and/or a minutes played buyback option after a set period of time.

At least then clubs are incentivised to keep the conveyor moving. And we'll hopefully always get the occasional Dozzell who wants to play for his home club with pride.

I think this shows that unless we stump up for Cat 1 status then Evans' "Five point plan" cannot and will not work unfortunately and we will continue to sell the clubs best kids. So the only other way is going to be spending money season on season to make us competitive so what out of these two is the cheaper option?

First and foremost, i'm an Ipswich fan and saddened that we lose any young promising player. But if you step away from being a Town fan, on the face of it you'd expect a top Premiership side to have a better academy than a Championship side, in terms of the money they can spend on facilities and coaching, just like you would a Championship side over a League One side and so on. So for the development of young English talent, i think the system just needs to change a bit to allow young players to get more playing time and opportunities at the top. I don't have the answers or even a perfect suggestion - but something along the lines of when a youth player moves, if they haven't made XX first team appearances at their new club by age 21 then they return to their first club who then have the option to keep or sell them. That way, young English talent doesn't get priced out of a move to a top club and it also forces the club to give them a chance or risk losing them for nothing.
