Town to Receive £400,000 World Cup Windfall
Monday, 16th Jul 2018 16:19

Town will receive just over £400,000 from FIFA’s World Cup Benefits Programme after keeper Bartosz Bialkowski and left-back Jonas Knudsen’s spells in Russia with Poland and Denmark respectively.

FIFA pays clubs $8,530 (around £6,408) a day for every player released for the tournament regardless of whether they actually take to the field, starting from May 31st and running until a day after their teams are knocked out.

Bialkowski’s Poland exited at the group stage following their only victory, their 1-0 win against Japan on June 28th, while Denmark went out 3-2 on penalties to eventual losing finalists Croatia following a 1-1 draw in the last 16 on July 1st.

Therefore Town will be paid around £192,240 for Bialkowski’s time in Russia and about £211,464 for Knudsen’s, a total of £403,704.

The Blues keeper was an unused sub throughout for Poland as had been expected going into the tournament, while the left-back’s only game was the Croatia match.

The total sum received by clubs from the scheme will be £160 million with the pay-outs designed to compensate for the injury risks players - and therefore their clubs - face at the finals.

Manchester City will be paid the highest sum, £3,904,400, with Real Madrid the second most, £3,816,300.

Use some of that money to clean up the ground. That green moss on the bobby stand can go, the Ipswich badge on the south needs a new light and the rest of the ground could do with a lick of paint.
Just a thought, Mr Evans.

Great news. Will hopefully get added to the saved wages and £4.5M received in fees. Desperately needed money to strengthen an average looking squad.

Thanks very much - some money for effectively nothing. I am sure we're happy to take it.

Just demonstrates the ludicrous amounts of money sloshing around football when as greedy an organisation as FIFA is prepared to do this.

A nice little earner I know, but think of what the likes of Man Utd/City, Real Madrid and Barcelona creamed off from this, and the fact that it's peanuts to them in the wider scheme of things.

Well done Ipswich Town, to have two of their defensive players representing their respective countries at the the worlds greatest football tournament, earning our club £400,000.
The Knudsen throw, almost unhinged eventual runners up Croatia.
Good money in from the sale of a promising but injury prone Webster, salary saved on a good but injury prone McGoldrick, has sealed the deal on Bart, and given PH some money to get the players in to mould his ITFC team.
