Town are reported to upped their bid for Blackpool central defender Curtis Tilt to £700,000.
According to Sky Sports, the Tangerines are yet to accept the offer for the 26-year-old, who is understood to have handed in a transfer request.
The Blues previous two bids for Tilt had seen them reach £550,000 with the two sides having been involved in a stand-off for most of the month, Blackpool having put a £1 million price tag on their player's head.
Talks are understood to have taken place last week and Blues boss Paul Hurst was evidently pleased to learn that Tilt hadn’t played for the Seasiders in their friendly against Crewe Alexandra after Town’s game against West Ham, hinting that it might signify good news.
However, the deal was still to be done and it appears Town have now increased their offer as they look to secure the Walsall-born defender ahead of the weekend opener against Blackburn Rovers at Portman Road.
Tilt played in non-league for Halesowen Town, Hednesford Town, AFC Telford Town, Wrexham and Forest Green Rovers (loan) before joining Blackpool last summer.
He made 45 starts for the League One side in 2017/18, his first EFL campaign, scoring once and picking up three Seasiders’ player of the season gongs.
Rangers, Reading, QPR and Portsmouth have all also been linked with Tilt this summer.
Meanwhile, former Blues loanee Bersant Celina has joined Swansea City from Manchester City for an initial £3 million, signing a four-year deal.
The Swans have also recruited another winger, Barrie McKay, from Nottingham Forest, who was linked with Town earlier in the summer.

If we've been prepared to pay £750,000 to Accrington for Donacien, it seems unnecessary to be risking losing out on, who seems to have been our number 1 defensive target all summer, with multiple bids that still haven't reached that level.
We offered around £500k to begin with and they want nearer £1m so I'd be surprised if they didn't meet us half way and accept this offer. Especially if he's handed a transfer request in and he's down to his final year of his contract. It's really nice to see us going out and offering money for players rather than short term loans and freebies.
I'm waiting to read another 'Hurst gamble's style post. I don't think he gambles. I think he knows JUST what he's getting. In contrast MM's list of ill-starred and underwhelming permanent and loan signings was significant in length.
It may have been management style, but I can't recall MM ever upping a bid on a player (or at least hearing about it). Always seemed to me that, "We made inquiries, but nothing came of it." Like we made one offer and when it was rejected we ended the chase. It's good to see that PH is willing to up his offers to try to get his preferred options.
Paul Hurst has gained everyone's respect very quickly seems to a real presence and not to be messed with. I for one think it's great and have not looked forward to the beginning of a season for many a year.
This is much better, over to you Claude. Just appears ridiculous from the outside looking in that we couldn't have done this weeks ago, knowing Blackpool rate Tilt at £1m. Let's hope this finally gets the wheels moving on this deal.
Like so many others I've been keeping a close eye on TWTD and the various rumours (and it must be said that Phil does a fantastic job keeping us all informed of what's going on behind the scenes) but when will so many of the regulars on hear learn that: 1. You are very rarely going to have a detailed understanding of what's actually going on - the information we are fed is inevitably 'old' and incomplete.. It's fun to comment and no doubt we all get frustrated at times such is our desire to see new blood coming into the club butI can't believe that anyone isn't at least mildly excited at the possibilities of a set of young and hungry youth from within the club being mixed with some experienced and reliable old guard plus a blend of equally hungry up and coming players from lower leagues. 2. Many are criticising ME and his negotiating skills - a pretty much self made multi-millionaire with an outstanding rexord I'm business and who has already had his fingers burned in the past by ill-advisedly overpaying for underperforming wannabes and yet you think you have the answers - get real! I think this new longer term initiative is admirable, especially as he's playing within the rules of FFP rather than recklessly risking the future of the club on a short term gamble. Six, maybe as many as eight of the sides in this division are making the big gamble and yet we know for a fact that at least 50% plus of those clubs are going to fail and end up with a massive problem as a result. Villa (one of the few with the scale, brand, infrasstructure, history and support to win over a rich investor to rescue them) got away with it but I wouldn't expect many if any of the others that have put themselves in such an exposed position will have the same safety net they did cometh their hour of need. 3. MM is history now and we should look forward but give the guy a break! Yes, the football was crao and his antics and attitude towards the fans stank (not that he wasn't provoked) but how can anyone criticise his eye for a player. Operating with what amounted to buttons he unearthed some absolute treasures. I'm sure that he'd be the first to admit there were a few mistakes - there was bound to be - but overall his activities in the transfer market - loans or permanents - were excellent.
We can't compete for players like Tom Lawrence and Celina, even though they did play for us. Even getting promoted and immediately relegated transforms the finances so much, as long as you don't get stuck with long expensive contracts.
