Stoke Linked With Knudsen Bid
Wednesday, 1st Aug 2018 19:46

Stoke City are reported to have made a £1 million bid for Blues left-back Jonas Knudsen.

Rumours that the Potters are keen on the Danish international have been circulating on social media for a number of days, while Town recently made an offer to Scunthorpe for another left-back, Conor Townsend, who subsequently joined West Brom. Now, the Daily Telegraph report that they have made a bid of around £1 million.

Knudsen, 25, has only a year left on his Blues contract and speaking last week manager Paul Hurst said he is in no hurry to offer the former Esbjerg fB man a new deal.

“If he sees it that he’s in the last year of his contract and he thinks he’s going to start looking elsewhere, then I can’t do anything about that,” Hurst said. “I might not want him.

“At the minute, he’s got to prove himself, all the lads in there have got to prove themselves still, even if at this moment in time I’m not going to make an absolutely definitive decision on who I would like long-term and who I won’t on the basis of some pre-season games because we all know when the season gets under way some will naturally improve, some might drop."

Knudsen seems likely to move on. Hurst doesn't seem overly keen. But, the squad is already in need of new players. If we sell Waghorn, Garner and Knudsen is there time to replace three players plus the additions which we already need?

Based primarily on 1 World Cup performance I should think...

1 million, not nearly enough for an international fullback...2.75 million minimum.

Am I right in saying PH said those things before the West Ham game? His views may have changed since then to what is reported here. But it would be very wrong to let him go just because he hasn't fully proven himself.

His passion and steady improvement has been good to see during his time here. And 1 mil? Stoke can do one.

Someone mentioned the Rory Delap comparison and the Potters think they can make it 2008 all over again...

If true I expect this to happen if we get a replacement. Yr left, Jonas doesn't know if he's getting a new contract, million quid not it saying it's good or bad if it happens. Just that I think if they have bid he will go

Really don't want us to let Jonas go. He gets a bad rep for me from a lot of fans. I want to see him given chances at LCB. Stoke fans probably are thinking Delap and how key he was to them 10 years ago

His quality on the ball is shocking. Mentality cannot make up for a complete absence of quality. Bite their hands off at this offer!

Out with the old and in with the new, that's my opinion. Great attitude, fully committed but not any where near one of our best ever LB's. Decent price, say 2m, then it's thanks very much and adios.

Never rated him. Mick made more fuss about proving this signing than any other. We picked up a few really good buys under Mick but he never looked any better than the youngsters he was keeping out. And CB ? No way

Those comments from PH were before the Hammers game in fairness.
Knudsen couldn't seriously expect a new contract until PH had seen him in action, and comments from the manager, after the game were positive I thought.
Interesting to see which way this goes.

Yonas is a committed player but he is always beaten by pace. We can defiantly get a replacement for a 1mil or less

Based on them seeing his long throw at the World Cup i would say, perfect for their style of football

Accept this bid and get him gone. Terrible fullback, lacks skill, genuine technique and just generally not that good.
Kenlock better

Please be true !!! Get 2 mill and we must sell. Not good enough and typical of dinosaurs headless chicken hoofballers. We need to move on from “proper blokes” to players comfortable on the ball and he is not one of those imo. I know there are fans who like him but not for me thanks. £2m bite their arm off.

We can't just change our whole team though surely? Anyone who's signed more than about 6 players on football manager in one go should know that!!

If we lose Garner, Jonas and as expected Waggy, that's 44 goals out of a total 57 scored last season, with Didzy, Celina and Carayol already gone.

Something he said in an interview when MM left, made me wonder if he would still be here at start of season...
I remember the comments on here of “remember who pays your wages” etc

Get him gone. surplus to requirements, slated the fans over his love for MM, thinks he's better than he is, if one throw in for his national team warrants a 1m price tag, RIP their hands off. Shocking defender, full of himself, absolutely no loss whatsoever if he goes.
