Town Closing in on Fulham Youngster
Thursday, 2nd Aug 2018 19:30

Town are closing in on the loan signing of Fulham midfielder Tayo Edun.

According to HITC Sport, the 20-year-old is undergoing a medical ahead of a move to the Blues.

We understand that while that's premature, the loan should be completed tomorrow in time for the season opener against Blackburn at Portman Road on Saturday.

Edun, who was previously linked with Town early this month, was on trial with MLS outfit Portland Timbers earlier in the summer and had also been reported to be interesting League One clubs Barnsley and Shrewsbury in addition to Town.

The Islington-born youngster, who is contracted to Fulham until the summer of 2020, has had limited first team experience with the Cottagers, playing twice in the Caribao Cup last season and later clocking up two Championship appearances as Fulham headed towards promotion back to the Premier League.

He has represented England from U17 through to U20 levels and was in the U19 squad, alongside both Andre Dozzell and new loanee Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea, that triumphed in the European U19 Championship 12 months ago in Georgia, where he was named in the team of the tournament despite being sent off in the 2-1 final win over Portugal after collecting two yellow cards.

Edun, who is left-footed and can play in central midfield, left-back or in a wide midfield role, made his senior debut for Fulham almost two years in an EFL Cup win at Leyton Orient and also featured in his side’s subsequent ties in the same competition against Middlesbrough and Bristol City.

If we can manage to get all of Dozzell'sEngland teammates together and mix them up with the likes of Bart, Chambers, Skuse and Waghorn we could have a very exciting season. Welcome 🙏

I don't get what people's problems with loans of youngsters are. If any of our youngsters have a really good season they would be sold straight away. Every player might as well be on a one year contract. No loyalty in football. Apart from of course Bartos, Chambers and in recent history Carlos Edwards.

I just want to see the strongest possible match day squad which probably means 2 more loans even after this one

There is much that is wrong with the modern game - in fact very little that is right with it - and probably the worst aspect is the ridiculous loan system. We send out all our crap to lower league teams, and in return take in other teams' crap. The players we send out are never going to make the grade here so just get rid ; the players we take in are similarly below the standard required at their own clubs, and are simply footballing mercenaries with no commitment to the club they temporarily play for. The whole system should be scrapped. And it s ludicrous that we are still recruiting players into the squad now : pre-season games are done ; the boot camp training is done ; they'll have no idea how their team-mates play nor who they are. The transfer window needs to shut 8 days before the season starts.

Been fully behind the other signings and saw we were eyeing him up earlier in the summer. My only concern is that he is young with little to none senior experience. I'd have been all for it if he'd already have played on loan in a league somewhere. But I'd rather develop our own youngsters, he might not add anything. Then again, we might not have anything decent/ready in that position?

Sad times - 3 seasons ago we were challenging for the play offs while Fulham were looking like dropping into League 1 - now we're begging to borrow their Reserves :(

Pencilpete: Looking on the bright side, this just goes to show how fortunes can change fast - maybe ours will too.

Loan deals can be permanent. It's how we use the system.

got to hand it to Hurst,he is not afraid to put his reputation on the line, Certainly big changes, .It will either be a good season or a spectacular fail. Hope he can pull it off, We will soon find out . It could be a white knuckle ride, but it should be entertaining . COYB.
