Blues and Shrews Close to Agreement on Duo
Friday, 3rd Aug 2018 08:14

Town and Shrewsbury are reported to be close to agreeing a deal which would see Shrews pair Toto Nsiala and Jon Nolan move to Portman Road.

The Blues made a joint-bid understood to be £1.4 million on Tuesday which was rejected by the League One club, who were managed by Town boss Paul Hurst until he moved to Portman Road at the end of May.

The pair handed in transfer requests on Wednesday and yesterday were barred from training with their team-mates while their situations were sorted.

According to the Shropshire Star, talks between the clubs have progressed and a deal is now close to being agreed.

A Blues move for Nsiala and Nolan had been anticipated since Hurst took over at Portman Road with both key players in his Shrewsbury side which reached the League One play-offs last season.

The pair, who are both 26, were initially recruited by Hurst during his time as Grimsby manager from elsewhere in non-league, having previously been with the Everton academy. Nolan is contracted to the Shrews until the summer of 2020 and Nsiala until 2019.

Following his spell at Everton, Huyton-born Nolan spent time with Stockport County, Lincoln City and Wrexham (loan) before joining Hurst's Grimsby in January 2016 before moving on to Chesterfield that summer. A year later Hurst took him to Shrewsbury.

Nsiala, a DR Congo international born in Kinshasa, spent time on loan at Macclesfield and Accrington while with Everton before a spell with TDCS Dong Thap in Vietnam.

After returning to the UK, Nsiala, who was brought up in Liverpool from the age of 10 after a period living in Paris, joined Southport before playing for Hurst at Grimsby between 2014 and 2016. After half a season at Hartlepool he was reunited with his old boss at Shrewsbury in January 2017.

Although pleased we are signing more young players, I am still concerned we have not got enough experienced players for the championship. You need a mix of young and experience in the team but we just seem to be buying unproven players at this level. The championship is a gruelling league and these signings so far have no experience doesnt bode well

Just read some interesting pre match comments by Tony Mowbray, he thinks we are securing some very good players from League 1. 👍

We just need to get MrTilt in through the door. I feel he's the most important player and if they want a £1m , bloody pay them that . He looks a very good player to me!

Let's face it, ME is obviously in BIG love with PH! The former comes across as a guy who's just asked out a fabulous girl, only to discover she's even more fabulous than he thought and now he just can't stop buying her sh*t and letting her get her own way lol.

We've got the experience! We need young hungry players and this is what PH is getting. They won't all pay off but at the end of the day we may get a very good side. Be patient

If PH can land these two pivotal players at a reasonable price, it will complete his transformation to a new era at Ipswich with his definite hallmark. Dare I say a little like Bobby Robson coming in as a young unknown manager who released Jimmy Robertson to build up his own team - most of whom subsequently became internationals. But it took time, and I am trusting that Ipswich (unlike just about every other ambitious club) will continue to give that all-important gestation period.

This is a real turning point for us, years of hoofball and no real signings so players wanting to step up is exciting. Why some moan about these signings is beyond me, look at Maddison who came from Coventry....it's about coaching and stepping up

I wonder if we will loan them in first?

Loving this! But my heart really set on Tilt too. Think we need that deal done and it would be a hell of a bit of business if we do. He will play Prem.

Sky Sports reporting that we've made an offer to Cardiff to take Omar Bogle on loan for the season.

Bildestoned - are you Ian Holloway in disguise? That's the type of analogy he would say lol...probably right though and ME needs to get the fans back on side so it's win win

Ok , assuming we sell Waggy, we have transfer income of at least 10 million
If all these players come in. Jackson , Tilt , Nolan, Nsiala Etc. We are still quids in, and I'm absolutely fine with that
This is shrewd management by ME and PH
Realistically it's wHat we need to do
It's what we have always needed to do
However no manager since Burley has done it right
Get in there Town
We are on the up!
