Shrews Pair at Town to Complete Move Monday, 6th Aug 2018 10:48
Shrews pair Toto Nsiala and Jon Nolan have arrived at Town to undergo their medicals and complete the formalities relating to their moves to the Blues, TWTD understands.
The clubs agreed a fee over the weekend - which we understand to be nearer £2 million than the £1.5 million reported yesterday - with the duo’s move to Portman Road expected to be completed later today or tomorrow morning.
The pair, who are both 26, were initially recruited by Hurst during his time as Grimsby manager from elsewhere in non-league, having previously been with the Everton academy.
Following his spell at Everton, Huyton-born Nolan spent time with Stockport County, Lincoln City and Wrexham (loan) before joining Hurst's Grimsby in January 2016 prior to moving on to Chesterfield that summer. A year later Hurst took him to Shrewsbury.
Nsiala, a DR Congo international born in Kinshasa, spent time on loan at Macclesfield and Accrington while with Everton before a spell with TDCS Dong Thap in Vietnam.
After returning to the UK, Nsiala, who was brought up in Liverpool from the age of 10 after a period living in Paris, joined Southport before playing for Hurst at Grimsby between 2014 and 2016. After half a season at Hartlepool he was reunited with his old boss at Shrewsbury last summer.
Elsewhere, Martyn Waghorn is expected at Derby to undergo his medical this morning ahead of his £5 million plus add-ons, which we understand could eventually see the fee climb to £7.5 million, switch to the Rams.

Personally, I can't wait to see what Nolan can do for us. Feel like we've been missing someone like this for a long time. Might take a while to adjust but is exactly the sort of player we should be going after
Jesus christ stop with the “too many league one players” bull. Its getting really boring now. Its like your suggesting that no one at that level is good enough to step up. Im sure all the moaners think that they could do the next level of their job well, whatever that may be. This is no different. Edwards was a league one player 3 weeks ago and he was best player on pitch Saturday. Get them in I say, rather them than a £3M journeyman
@Northstander_Blue I have made this point on previous posts only to be lambasted by 99% of the fans on here giving me personal abuse. Its all well and good signing these young hungry players. But with no championship experience is extremely risky, as not all may be able to step up to the level
I really really liked Waghorn and was sad to hear he could be moving on. Just coming to terms with it and then it comes out that we've dropped the required fee and he's going to my second-least favourite team in the division. Now if it allows us to bring in players like this who are supposedly going to be handy then great, but it's a sad state of affairs when we can't afford these two without selling our biggest assets.
Nolan's highlights reel looks good. Makes me think there must be some long term fitness (or otherwise) concerns over Emyr Huws and Teddy Bishop. I also think Mr Hurst is being very clever with Chalobah and is using him first in midfield alongside the very experienced Skuse to get him used to Championship football, then will drop him back into Defence (where mistakes are more exposed than Midfield) as we surely have plenty of centre mids but not centre backs (even if we add Nsiala and one more). Totally new management and way of playing for this Ipswich side along with new players. I predict we will go on a real run after Christmas. COYB!
What experience of Championship football did Dozzell, Nydam, Downes, Mings have before they set foot on the pitch? FFS either get behind the team or support some other side.
I'm cautiously super excited for this season. While i believe we will be ok in the league, a part of me is concerned at the amount of lower league players we seem to be buying or linked with. I don't really follow league 1 or league 2 so have no idea what these players are like so I guess I just have to put my faith in Paul Hurst and let him do his thing. There is no doubt though that the buzz and feeling among us Town fans is really high for the first time in a long while.
Rather than worrying about Championship v League 1 experienced players, personally I think it's more important that PH gets in the type of players that he believes will play well in this new system. Nolan and Nisala will obviously fit and be the most effective signings for this. I still hope Tilt would fit in but another striker who can play this system is now a higher priority.
Toto & Nolan combined for 2m in the current transfer market where every player is over priced is great value: I think we need 2 forwards another defender & maybe another wide player for extra competition for places: if we sign who Hurst wants I think Spence Sears & Skuse could all struggle for game time: Spence is not good enough: Sears doesn't like being out wide but with his build never going to play as the 1 forward: with Trev the man in front of the defence, Skuse is not good enough or mobile enough to play as a attacting midfielder:
Busiest transfer window for Town ever. Yes we are picking up league 1 players but let's face it if Shrewsbury had got promoted then they would already be playing at that level. We may need time for them to adjust to the higher level that's all. Remember we picked up Cresswell and John McGreal both from Tranmere who were in a lower division and both exceled for us. Also remember Mowbray and Pallister ended up in the Premiership having learnt their trade with Middlesborough when they were in the old division 2. Need to get Tilt in, don't buy this “not in a mental state to play”, they are hushing things up from their side. Would be happier once some more striking options arrive. Personally I think the Waghorn transfer is all driven over Bart's new contract with his agent driving this transfer in order to get him a pay rise based on a one season performance. Bart has consistently performed at this level and therefore nobody begrudges his improved contract.

The fans craved attacking football and this, I feel, is coming to fruition.
I'd rather watch last season's Shrewsbury side struggle to keep mid table in this division than last year's Ipswich team take no risks to achieve the same.
A player like Nolan, were he performing as he did last year in a Championship team, would cost us way more than we selling Waghorn for.
How can this be a bad signing. PH believes he can play at this level and if he is right we will be fighting off bids from bigger Clubs pretty soon. With PH at the helm, we should get 2 seasons out of what i think is an inspired signing who is the sort of player we have needed for a long time and nearly had in teddy, and may yet have in Dozzell.
Quite what PH does when all these midfielders are fit (unlikely i know) is anyone's guess, but a good problem to have.
The spine of this side seems to be experienced Championship players: Bialkowski, Chambers, Skuse. Then further up there's Sears. Could be supplemented or alternated by Huws, Garner. That's four out of eleven on the pitch. So, isn't the debate really about whether that is sufficient? Build your team around that spine with not only promising signings from Leagues 1 and 2 but also your best academy products. I don't mind reading about real concerns that it is still a gamble or whether it is the beginning of a fantastic new era at Ipswich. But, please, get some focus and realise what Hurst is trying to build here.
I can understand why some people are none too impressed about signing all these lower league players, I mean it's not as if we've had many successful signings from lower league clubs in the past. The only ones I can think of are Bartosz Bialkowski (Notts County), Jordan Spence (MK Dons), Adam Webster (Portsmouth), John McGreal (Tranmere), Aaron Cresswell (Tranmere), Tyrone Mings (Chippenham Town), Jermaine Wright (Crewe), Matt Holland (Bournemouth), Tommy Miller (Hartlepool), David Norris (Plymouth), Darren Currie (Brighton), Gary Roberts (Accrington), David Johnson (Bury), Freddie Sears (Colchester) and Jon Walters (Chester City). I'm gonna throw in Kiefer Moore (Forest Green) as well considering the profit we made on him. Other than that there's been none at all.
@Northstandveteran thank you for your constructive opinion and I do agree with what you are saying, and of course I am excited about these young players coming in. My point is the championship is the hardest and most gruelling league in the world. These players are not used to playing this standard of football, playing 2 games a week. If we hit a bad run of form I feel these young lads heads will drop, we need a few players with this experience to guide these younger players.
I see someone mentioned players like Dozzell, Nydam, Downes, Mings, but lets not forget these players were in the team with players with vast experience so its easier for these players to bed themselves into the squad.
