Huws, Bishop and Rowe Return to Action in U23s Friendly
Tuesday, 7th Aug 2018 16:26

Emyr Huws, Teddy Bishop and Danny Rowe were all in match action for the first time since suffering injuries which ended their 2017/18 seasons in an U23s behind-closed-doors friendly against Cambridge United at Playford Road this afternoon.

Huws, who played the first half, had been out of action since December when he suffered a knee injury which required surgery, while Bishop, who featured for an hour, injured a hamstring last October.

Rowe’s loan spell at Lincoln at the end of last season was prematurely ended by an ankle problem which required surgery. The former Macclesfield winger also played the first 60 minutes.

Despite their involvement this afternoon, the trio are still likely to be some way off first team involvement given their lengthy absences.

“It’s good to see them out on the grass but it’s just the first step. They are a long way of being fit for first team contention,” boss Paul Hurst told the club site.

Also among those in action against the U’s were Andre Dozzell, Dean Gerken, Tristan Nydam, Myles Kenlock, Jordan Roberts and Josh Emmanuel.

Town U23s: Gerken, Emmanuel, Cotter, Ndaba, Kenlock, Bishop, Dozzell, Nydam, Huws, Rowe, Roberts.

Phil must have been told to maintain radio silence on individual transfers today until all are fully signed, so we can expect a bumper story shorly confirming 5 new players coming in.

Don't suppose anybody knows what the score was and who got them?

We've been there so many times before with Bishop & Huws to a lesser extent. Rowe wasn't actually a regular sick note. Sounds as if Hurst has a different attitude to these guys than before - he seems to be keeping them out of his plans. As for Adeyemi, no surprise that he wasn't involved. Expect him to see out his contract & not kick another ball for Town. One of the worst all time signings.

Nice to see a few players coming back from rehab. A new, younger management team with a modern approach to the game, perhaps noted the number of injured players on our books, and the need of a fitness science that was lacking within the club?
I feel that we are now in good hands, players are expected to be at a high fitness level before playing for the 1st team.
Important players like Dozzel, a natural talent, but recovering from a year long injury, is being given time to allow his body to react to the rigour of game play, the same will go for Bishop and Huws.

Good to see Huws and Bishop back, can't see Rowe as any more than a bit part player - if even that....
