Shrews Signings and Waghorn Exit Set to Be Confirmed on Wednesday
Tuesday, 7th Aug 2018 21:54

Town are now set to confirm the signings of Shrewsbury duo Jon Nolan and Toto Nsiala on Wednesday.

The deals are all but done and there's been no hitch but the Blues have been waiting on the completion of Martyn Waghorn’s departure to Derby County before finalising the £2 million joint-move.

The cash from the striker’s sale will help fund Town’s recruitment of midfielder Nolan and central defender Nsiala from the Shrews.

Waghorn has agreed terms at Pride Park and completed his medical this evening. But given the lateness of the hour that deal is also now expected to be formally confirmed on Wednesday.

The Rams will pay the Blues an initial £5 million, of which £475,000 will go to Waghorn’s former club Rangers via a 10 per cent of profit sell-on clause in the £250,000 deal which saw the 28-year-old join Town a year ago today. The overall fee could potentially rise to £7.5 million.

Elsewhere, Accrington chairman Andy Holt has tweeted that there is as yet no news regarding Town target Kayden Jackson’s situation.

Will be glad when this is all done and dusted. Getting a little anxious as we approach the window and hoping we don't blow it. Does anyone know the latest regarding Tilt?

This keeps dragging on! Get it sorted.. fingers crossed on Jackson also, he looks like a potential Vardy in the making with his speed.

I'm thinking as we needed the Waggy deal completed for this £2m... if we are going for Jackson ... we won't have the funds for Tilt too, Shame, he looks a ball playing centre half.

This is running my nerves ragged. Just get it done so I can breath again. With Waghorn gone surely we can get tilt and Jackson as well. I certainly hope so. This is the most excited I have been during an August transfer window in ten years or more. Please give me some respite. COYB

Thankfully this saga will all be over with tomorrow. We should've had Jackson wrapped up and ready to sign the same as Nsiala and Nolan as he's more of a replacement for Waghorn. We have to make sure Waghorn is replaced and not end up being stung like the Murphy situation a couple of years ago. I really hope Tilt signs as well as another winger as Sears surely can't be our long term solution.

While I am sure most will be disappointed about losing Waghorn clearly it's something the club needed to do to finance other acquisitions. £250k to £5m in year is no bad thing and hopefully more to follow in top ups

No doubt some will still feel the need to criticise ME but this is the reality of our financial position. Starting to see more embargoes coming over FFP so we have to be sensible.

Lots of new faces in the squad it's now up to Paul Hurst to build the team.

Let's be patient while this takes place

Be glad it's come to a conclusion: Nolan looks a good player & Nsiala will strengthen are defensive options: with Waghorn gone we must replace him! if it's Jackson not the same as Wags but another forward we desperately need could be a similar player to Walters who can play up front & wide: Evans can't afford another Murphy goes & we end up with Leon Best who was a disaster: if We can't do Jackson we must sign someone else Permanently & then maybe add another forward option when the loan market opens

Now these are done we can now fire away with signing Jackson and tilt if Evans pulls that off that's good business and we're ready to go !!

I think PH has this under control and we won't be left sorry. Only surprised we don't have a winger in our sights Tony balance out Edwards on the right.... unless he thinks someone like Edun can do that job as it's not Freddie's role

Can see it going to ratsh*t, as we tighten our purse strings again

I'm sure PH feels far from chilled about how we seem to drag our heels tying deals up... I bet he's not as patient as he looks.

Lets not get too carried away on how many players we can sign on one players departure.
Perhaps £5m can cover the signings, but replacing 1 players wages with 4/5 players wages would demand more money.

Nsiala & Nolan we should be happy with. Tilt & Jackson would be an unusual bonus for us to be delighted about.

Cant remember the last time we made so many permanent signings. COYB

Sales (& WC money) would total 9.5 Mil and we lost 14 players i think of the book - If we are spending 2 mil on Shrew lads , we easily have 1Mil for Tilt and 2 Mil for jackson (total 5 mil) as we have spent no where near 4 Mil so far..so even rough maths we are a few quid (mil) up , and the owner said the money raised would go to players ..so money "should" not be a issue...wait and see.!!

Don't forget the missing sponsorship money which was lauded when we signed the naff deal as it would help acquire players.

That 2,000,000 seems to have disappeared too.

Gone a bit quiet on Tilt hasn't it? I wish we'd sign him as everything I've read and seen says he's class. 1m looks a good rice and not that much more than the 700k we did offer. Looks like we're settling for the two defenders we've signed already though.

Don't forget the considerable amount we are now spending on Doig's whey protein.
